Definition of the Concept

• According to the DSM IV (Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders): – The schizophrenia is a alteration that

persists for at least 6 months and includes at least 1 month of symptoms of the active phase.

Historical Background

• The mysticism was a predominant factor that influenced the history in the schizophrenic patients, causing violations of the rights of the same.

• The scientific model also impact to this population, causing instability and transformations in pro to the rights of patients.

• The humanist model focuses on the inherent tendency to fight for the complacency and meaning for life and feels the need to understand ourselves and the world.

Myths and Paradigms

• "Schizophrenic patients have demonic possession or evil spirits"

• "They are criminals and murderers"

• The famous "lunatics“

Conclusion

• It should encourage the use of rehabilitation services decreasing use pharmacological treatment, educate citizens and orient academically to students in the clinical area and social to the formulation of proposals for research on the early identification of problems.

• The integration of all the agencies related to mental health services. Continuous Access to the services. You must evaluate sympathetically an individualized treatment plan.

Conclusion

• Development and implementation of the protocols for the treatment of special populations. Ensure parity of mental health services to patients. Proper training of professionals of health services.
