CTP=Centro Territoriale Permanente

(Permanent Territorial Centre )

The CTP is a Lifelong Learning Centre for Adult Education

• In Italy there are two systems that provide adult education. The first falls under the responsibility of the Ministry of Education. The second, which provides continuing vocational training for adult workers, is organized by the Regional Authorities.

• In July 1997 permanent territorial centres (CTP's) for adult education were created. These centres can be Iocated in schools of any level or type and are designed to serve as points where adult education and training can be organized on the basis of needs, planning, consultation and the implementation and management of initiatives and where documentation can be gathered and disseminated.

These centres are normally set up in provincial capitals and, in any case, in places where the demand for ongoing adult training exceeds a certain threshold. Liceo Classico "C. Bocchi" hosts one of these centres.

• In Italy the adult education system is financially supported by resources allocate mainly by the State.

• Each centre provides a service aimed at combining the right to education with the right to vocational guidance, career advice and training. This means training and cultural and functional literacy, including training in foreign languages.

• In Italy strategy players for ICT in education are the Ministry of Education Research and University centres where is located SAIIT (Servizio pe l'Automazione Informatica e l'Innovazione Tecnologica),the service for computer science automation and technological innovation.

• SAIIT collaborates on distance training, advises institutions and experiments on e-learning. Provides support structures. Plans to strengthen areas, and provides adult learning and distance learning in developing countries.

• The results are that ICT for adult learners has been used for 60.000 executives and administrative secretaries; 64.000 teachers and 160.000 teachers for ECDL, technology teaching and infrastructure.

• The activities of the territorial centres are open to all adults who have reached the age of 16 years who do not have a school-leaving certificate and to adults who have a school leaving certificate but intend to enroll for further educational training courses.

The Centre provides different courses in different subjects.

Courses take place in the evenings usually from six to ten p.m.
