Introduction

VoIP stands for Voice over internet protocol. VoIP convert the voice signals from

telephone into digital signals that travel over the net .

The History

There are two fundamental technologies that are necessary for the existence of VoIP.• The first, most widely used, is the telephone.

• The second technology is the internet.

What Happened In 1876?

The telephone was invented in 1876.

What Happened In 1878?

In 1878, the first regular telephone exchange was established.

What Happened In 1889?

In 1889, the switch that could connect one line to any of 100 lines by relay and slider was invented.

What Happened In 1943?

In 1943, Dr. Shannon published “A Mathematical Theory Of Communication” which promoted the concept of communication in binary code.

What Happened In 1963?

In 1963, AT&T used Dr. Shannon’s idea and created “touch tone” dialing.

What Happened In 1968?

In 1968, the internet was first developed by ARPANET.

What Happened In 1972?

In 1972, the Internet protocol was invented.

What Happened In 1989?

In 1989, a group of research at CERN created hyper test transfer markup language.

What Happened In 1995?

In 1995, VoIP was started by small company in Israel.

What Happened In 1998?

In 1998, some entrepreneurs started to market PC-to-Phone and Phone-to-Phone.

Advantages of VoIP

It’s relatively affordable. It’s easy to set-up. You can use it anywhere in the world,

you don’t need a special Operator, all you need is the internet connection.

Disadvantages of VoIP

You can’t make Emergency calls. It’s susceptible to worms, viruses and

hacking, although this is a very rare and VoIP developers are working on VoIP encryption to counter this.
