PRINCE OF PEACE

6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his

shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the greatness of his

government and peace there will be no end.

Isaiah 9:6-7

He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on

and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

Isaiah 9:6-7

The absence of God is the absence of peace because God is the Prince

of Peace

Peace comes to us in the form of a person: Jesus Christ

1) JESUS, BORN KING OF THE JEWS

Magi from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born

king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

Matthew 2:1-2

16 On [Jesus’] robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

Revelation 19:16

The reason why Christmas is so profound is because Jesus was born

already King

How would you respond to being in the presence of royalty?

37 When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole

crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:

38 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!”

Luke 19:37-40

“Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” 39 Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to

Jesus, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” 40 “I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones

will cry out.”

Luke 19:37-40

2) JESUS, BORN THE SON OF DAVID

1 This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham.

Matthew 1:1

16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright

Morning Star.”

Revelation 22:16

17 Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to

the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.

Matthew 1:17

“Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Matthew 9:27 Matthew 20:30-31

Mark 10:47Luke 18:38

Under David, Israel and Judah were a unified. After Solomon, it was divided into two. It is only Jesus who can unify what

was once divided.

3) JESUS, A KING WITH A KINGDOM

And the government will be on his shoulders.

Isaiah 9:6

7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end.

Isaiah 9:7

He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with

justice and righteousness.

Isaiah 9:7

17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness,

peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Romans 14:17

10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Matthew 6:10
