Can you believe it's March already? For those of you who have been to the
lodge lately, you know all of our good friends from up north are here, enjoying
the beauty of the river, the Tiki hut, and all that our lodge has to offer. This
month, we have the Big Band weekend on March 10th, 11th, and 12th. With
American Made on the 10th, Jim Morris tribute band on Saturday, the 11th,
and the Boogiemen on Sunday, the 12th, it is sure to be a great weekend! Get
your green ready for Saint Patrick's Day on the 17th. Also, this month, on the
26th, we have the installation of the new officers. Please let Judy Nuetzel
know if you would like to attend.
This month is also bittersweet for me, as this will be my last article to you. I
will no longer be your Exalted Ruler come April 1st. It has truly been an honor
and a privilege to serve you for the past year. I've been fortunate to work with
great officers, the President of the board of directors, and all of his directors,
and a host of volunteer that performed so many amazing jobs for your lodge. If you have been to the
lodge for any function, you know that we have the BEST staff you can find anywhere. They all make us
all look good.
I was asked by a member a week ago if I was glad that it was almost over. My answer to them was, “no,
I'm not.” I would serve again in a heartbeat if that's what the members wanted. It was truly my honor
and privilege. Your lodge is in good hands with the new board and they will do just fine.
I'm appealing to you one last time. If you have not started receiving your “Elks Tale” electronically,
please let the office know, so we can save money. Money saved on printing will mean more to use for
the kids and our amazing veterans.
For all of our Northern friends, have a safe trip back home, and remember you will be missed.
Have a great month,
Bill Dryburgh
Exalted Ruler
From the Secretary:
Membership fees are due by April 1st each year and you will not be able to enter the Lodge
without a new card after that. We hope to make the process a little bit easer this year. You will
be able to pay by cash, check or credit card in the office. By check in the mail or credit card
over the phone or on our web site. Go to www.puntagordaelks.org and find the “Pay Dues”
section. This way you will not have to wait in line or on the phone.
Pete Vaphiades PDD Secretary
Please be considerate of our neighbors! Please do not litter during your trip to the lodge.

Thanks for a Great Year!!
Can’t believe this is my last newsletter. The Year
sure did go fast.
The Cork and Fork (aka wine and cheese) party was
a great success. Everyone had a great time. The
wine was excellent and snacks were delicious.
Thanks to Carol B and Sandy B and all who helped.
We had ten new members installed at our January
meeting. They are Penny Crock, Lucia Cimorelli, Mary Gail Phillips,
Sandy Rumbolo, Marge Guglielmo, Beverly Panas, Linda Rivera, Lin-
da Sherry, Pamela Snyder and Shirley Thompson. They have already
volunteered and are eager to help. Welcome ladies.
Our Memorial Service was held at our Feb meeting. We had 3 de-
parted sisters, Esther Townsend, Geraldine Hauka and Barbara
Lahrman.
Our Irish Tea Party is on March 4th along with a Chinese Auction.
This is always such a fun time with prizes for smallest, largest, funni-
est prettiest and most original hats. Tickets are $20.00 and can be
purchased at the Lodge Bar or from Carol Naken (639-2422) . Due
to the time frame we will report on this at a later date.
FLOE meeting was on February 16th at Deep Creek. The next FLOE
meeting will be determined at the February FLOE meeting.
There will be no meeting in March as that is our Installation of new
officers, which is on March 28th. Everyone is welcomed. The old
board will have a meeting at 2:00 and Installation is at 7:00.
Dues are due by April 1st. They are still $20.00 and can either be
mailed, with a self addressed stamped envelope to the Elkette
membership chairman in care of the Lodge. If mailing please send a
check, no cash.
Volunteer hours and miles are due the end of March, so get them to
Carol Bemister.
I would like to thank all of my Elkette officers, chairladies and co-
chairs for supporting me this past year. I could not have done this
without your support. Thanks for a great year. Congratulations to
the new officers for 2017-2018. May you have as much support as I
did. Also thanks to our Elks Lodge officers and Board for being sup-
portive.

Yes, I would like to receive the Lodge Bulletin and the weekly information “Blast” by EMAIL instead of by Postal Mail. Send to the Lodge Secretary. From the Corporation President
As we end another year, I look at how much our membership has grown. I am told our lodge
is now #2 in the country. Our lodge is strong. A lot of this comes about by the many
volunteers that show up time and time again with the passion and the energy that inspires
others to follow suit. As a show of appreciation, we offer the volunteers a drink ticket that is
worth one beer, one house wine, or one well liquor drink to be consumed when their shift is
finished. These drinks are a show of appreciation for work that they do. The volunteers are
also eligible for one ½ price meal, whether it be breakfast, chicken, picnic or many other
lodge functions for which they work. We appreciate the hard work they do which supports
our charities.
I would like to thank Michael Naken for repairing and painting our lighthouse mailbox.
Our project this summer will be to replace thatched roofs on the tiki tables and finish some
paver work at the standup bar by the water. We are going to work on some of the cabins
inside and out. We will also look into on demand water heaters, which will help us as we
continue to reduce our energy costs and provide much needed space in the kitchen.
Our corporate board elections will be the first Saturday in April. Please consider running for
the board, especially if you have restaurant experience. We can always use ideas to help our
lodge continue to be a thriving place in which our members have fun while supporting our
charities.
I have enjoyed working as the Corporate Board President and I would like to thank our
directors for the support, encouragement and the many hours of hard work they have given
our lodge.
Sincerely,
Joe Campbell, P.E.R. and C.B.O. D. President

VAVS News
(Veteran Affairs Veteran Services)
The Elks care and the Elks Share – especially when it comes to home cooking! On January 31, Veteran
Committee chairman Ann Jameson rounded up Elks and prepared a hot home cooked meal for Veterans
Village on Taylor Road in Punta Gorda. Residents are responsible for their own meal preparation, and
a buffet of wonderful dishes is a special treat and greatly appreciated!
(not pictured are Eric Rolston, Bill Jameson, Bob Hahn, Walter LaCombe and his wife)
While the veterans were lapping up the delicious assortment of food, Leading Knight Judy Nuetzel
presented Viet Nam veterans with the 50th Anniversary Commemorative Partners pin and packet.
On February 14, the Elks Veteran Committee volunteer C.J.
Metcalfe delivered Valentine goodie bags and cards, to each
resident of Veterans Village. “We will never forget our
Veterans”.
