QUAYSIDE YACHT CLUB, INC.
BOAT SIZE REGULATIONS
Definition of Terms (as implemented by Quayside Yacht Club, Inc.):
CLOA: Combined Length Overall. CLOA shall be the entire overall boat length including any
bow pulpits, outboard engines, swim platforms, and any other protrusions attached to the boat
above and below the waterline.
Fairway: The boat traffic area must be free of obstacles to allow clear and safe navigation
within the marina. Quayside Yacht Club (QYC) has six identified fairways (See Figures A, B,
C, D, E and F notations on the attached Map for location and size of fairways).
Slip Length: Measured by the finger dock as posted in the official QYC Slip Map (See
attached).
Slip Width: Modification shall not be made to the width of a slip in order to accommodate any
boat. The boat must freely pass into and out of the slip. Due to the unique design of the QYC
slips, the widths are not uniform. Each slip must be measured to determine its exact dimensions.
Securing Boats: Boats shall be tied properly so as not be cause damage to boat, dock or other
boats. This includes using the proper size lines, snubbers, and dock tie-off locations.
Allowed Boat Length:
1. Each slip may contain a boat with maximum CLOA of Slip Length plus 1 foot, 2
feet or 3 feet depending on the location within the Club (see table below). This is
intended to keep fairways open and free for safe navigation. This length shall be
the marketable boat CLOA for the slip. The maximum CLOA of a boat shall be
the Slip Length plus the corresponding allowance length:

2. Owner may place a boat up to the maximum CLOA for that slip without specific
Board of Directors (BOD) approval. Owner is responsible to ensure their boat is
within the maximum CLOA. Installing a boat less than described CLOA does not
reduce the maximum CLOA allowed for a future boat.
3. BOD approval shall be required for any owner wishing to increase their boat
CLOA beyond the maximum CLOA for their slip. Owners are responsible for the
compliance of their renters.
Grandfathering:
1. Each current owner as of July 29, 2016 shall be grandfathered to their current boat
CLOA for their respective slip. The BOD shall document and maintain current
boat CLOA with agreements with owner.
2. Grandfathered owner may exchange their current boat for up to the same
maximum size CLOA boat without BOD permission. Owner is responsible to
ensure new boat is the same CLOA or less.
3. Grandfathering shall apply until slip is sold to a new owner at which time the
Boat Regulations described herein shall apply. Notwithstanding the foregoing, a
non-contractual transfer of an owner’s interest to a revocable trust for estate
planning purposes shall not be considered a transfer to a new owner.
4. BOD approval shall be required for any grandfathered owner wishing to increase
their boat CLOA. Note: Owner may decrease boat CLOA without BOD approval
but the grandfathered status of the CLOA will be reduced to the new boat length.
Notification:
1. Owners are responsible for notifying renters in writing with a copy to the BOD,
that boats longer than the Maximum marketable boat CLOA for the slip will
require approval by the BOD and is subject to possible denial.
2. Boats longer than the Maximum marketable boat CLOA shall not be permitted to
be docked in said slip until written confirmation by the BOD has been obtained.

Upon reviewing the slip and boat in question, the directors have evaluated the criteria below in
determining whether or not to approve the requested boat length in the requested slip and have
determined that it:
IS ALLOWED / IS NOT ALLOWED (circle one)
Evaluation Criteria A. “Impedes” Would the placement of this boat in this slip impede the use of another member’s use of their boat? Yes or No B. “Prevents Safe Passage” Would placement of this boat in this slip prevent safe passage for
other QYC members and/or Trexler’s Marina customers? Yes or No
Directors A. “Impede” (yes/no)
B. “Prevent safe passage” (yes/no)

If majority of directors vote “No” to both A & B, then the boat will be allowed.
Things to consider when making the determination:
- Orientation of boat (a high bow may present more of a hazard than a low swim platform)
- Is the boat longer or shorter than neighboring slips or a previously approved boat in the same slip
- Navigation during windy or inclement weather
- Unfamiliar boaters (both navigating the boat in question and around the boat in question)
- Boats accessing the Trexler’s Marina service area (fuel, service, rental, valet, etc.)
- Marina fairways for other boats to navigate around the boat in question
- QYC boat length regulations
- Boat maneuverability in and out of the slip
