"A new commandment" "Love one another as I have loved you."
Today, Jesus invites us to love one another. Also in this complex world that we have to live, complex in good and evil that mixes and amalgamates. We are often tempted to see it as a fatality, bad news and, on the other hand, Christians are responsible for bringing, in a violent and unjust world, the Good News of Jesus Christ. Indeed, Jesus tells us to "love one another as I have loved you" (Jn 13,34). And a good way to love ourselves, a way to put into practice the Word of God is to proclaim, at all times, in every place, the Good News, the Gospel that is none other than Jesus Christ himself. «We carry this treasure in earthenware containers» (2Cor 4,7). What is this treasure? That of the Word, that of God himself, and we are the vessels of clay. But this treasure is a preciousness that we can not keep for ourselves, but we must spread it: "Go, then, and make disciples of all nations ... teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you all the days until the end of the world "(Mt 28,19-20). In fact, St. John Paul II wrote: "whoever has truly found Christ can not have it only for himself, he must announce it". With this confidence, we announce the Gospel; let's do it with all available means and in all possible places: in word, in deed and in thought, in the newspaper, on the Internet, at work and with friends ... «May your good treatment be known to all men . The Lord is near »(Flp 4,5). Therefore, as Pope John Paul II emphasizes, we must use new technologies, without regard, without embarrassment, to make the Good News of the Church known today, without forgetting that only by being good people, only by changing our heart, we will also change our world. This week, we take up The Catholic Relief Services Collec-tion to assist six Catholic agencies that provide relief and support to struggling communities and work for peace and reconciliation among our marginalized brothers and sisters here and around the world. Please prayerfully consider how you can support the collection. Learn more about the collection at : www.usccb.org/catholic-relief.
The Bishop’s Annual Appeal 2019 " We are Called...", Each of us is invited to give our gifts, tal-ents and resources in the same spirit of generous giving that God has given to us in His Son, and our Lord, Jesus. We are called to use our God-given gifts to care for one another; we are called, to live lives of holiness. When we use God’s bless-ing to make our annual gift or pledge, we join with all of our sisters and brothers in Christ throughout the diocese to do the Lord’s work — work that no one individual or parish can do alone. Thank you in advance for your consideration of a finan-cial gift to this year’s Bishop’s Annual Appeal so that we may joyfully live our faith!
