This system controls two compressors, two

cold floor brine pumps, one condenser

water pump and two condenser fans. This

system is capable of two sets of set points.

Refrigeration Services

The two different sets of set points on this system are based on “on peak” and “off peak” electric rates from the electric utility. Every effort is made to keep equipment off during the “on peak” period and utilize the less expensive electric rates during “off peak” period. We replaced the CIMCO 3000E control system with an Allen Bradley Micro Logix PLC controller and PC. The PC is for “man-machine” interface. A “user friendly” display features graphics that display operating values. A second screen has readily accessible system setpoints.

This system is accessible via the internet. All displays

and setpoints that are accessible at the on site PC are

also accessible remotely. The customer requested

that we leave intact the Honeywell system for backup.

We used existing temperature sensors so as to not

disturb ice surfaces. We achieved this with a set of

“changeover” relays. This system also adjusts settings

for the condenser with a “winter” and “summer” mode

by monitoring the outdoor air temperature. In winter

mode, the condenser pump comes on last. In summer

mode, it comes on first.
