Kathy Hersey, Our United Way Chairperson, Named UW’s Coordinator of the Year

Kathy Hersey, Hartford Hospital’sUnited Way campaign chairperson forthe past two years, won the honor of“Coordinator of theYear” from a list ofworthy contenders at the First AnnualUnited Way Best of Awards Ceremonyon Feb. 17 at the Hartford Club.

The sold-out red carpet ceremonyrecognized organizations andindividuals who demonstrated outstand-ing effort and creativity in leading the2010 United Way CommunityCampaign at their workplaces in centraland northern Connecticut.

“Campaign coordinators are the trueheroes of the United Way CommunityCampaign,” said Susan Dunn, presidentand CEO of United Way of Central andNortheastern Connecticut. “Year afteryear, hundreds of our region’s bestemployees take on the daunting task ofhelping to raise millions of dollars forour community.”

Kathy, who is the OSHA coordina-tor in HH’s Occupational HealthService, was accompanied by Dr. Orlan-do Kirton, who represented HartfordHospital administration at the event. Dr.Kirton has been Hartford Hospital’sUnited Way physician champion andliaison for the last seven years, and isalso a member of the United Way boardof directors as well as campaign cabinetmedical director.
