The problem

• Over 18,000 hand car washes in the UK, mostly sprung up in the last decade

• Some are legitimate businesses

• Police raids in hand car washes have unearthed victims living in horrendous conditions

• No reliable data on how many victims there are

The solution

• Developed a smartphone app called Safe Car Wash

• Open the app and complete a short survey about the working conditions of the hand car wash

• If exploitation might be happening, you will be prompted to call the Modern Slavery Helpline

• App data will be shared anonymously with law enforcement

• The Modern Slavery Helpline has opened 11 cases thanks to calls from users of the App

• The 11 cases involve 69 potential victims
