3 May the virtue of fortitude confirm us in our resolve to

Pastoral Planning Prayer for SJ&SM Stewards for Tomorrow

Almighty God and Father, we the members of St. Justin &

St. Michael thank you for the gift of our Catholic Faith. As

we look to the future during this time of pastoral planning,

we ask you to bless us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit to

discern wisely a way forward to meet today’s challenges

and opportunities.

May the virtue of prudence guide our efforts to be good

stewards of the legacy we have inherited from those

whose vision in the past helped establish our beloved

parishes.

May the virtue of justice ensure that the voices of the

faithful of every generation, ethnicity, state in life, and

community in our parishes be heard, welcomed and

respected.

acknowledge and address the spiritual and practical

realities of our day, and to position ourselves for a more

vibrant future.

May the virtue of temperance help us to look beyond our

individual interests and concerns for the sake of the

common good of St. Justin & St. Michael and the mission

to draw all people to Christ.

At the intercession of Blessed Mary, our Mother, and Saint

Joseph her spouse and our patron, may we discern and

implement what is truly best for the whole Church and for

all the faithful of St. Justin & St. Michael and the whole

Archdiocese of Hartford.

We make our prayer through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Hymn: Standing in the Need of Prayer

• Refrain:] It's me, it's me, it's me O Lord, standing in the need of prayer. It's me, it's me it's me, O Lord, standing in the need of prayer.

• Not my mother or my father, but it's me, O Lord, standing in the need of prayer; not my mother or my father, but it's me, O Lord, standing in the need of prayer.

• [Refrain]

• Not my brother or my sister, but it's me, O Lord, standing in the need of prayer; not my brother or my sister, but it's me, O Lord, standing in the need of prayer.

• [Refrain]

• Not the stranger or the neighbour, but it's me, O Lord, standing in the need of prayer; not the stranger or my neighbour, but it's me, O Lord, standing in the need of prayer.

• [Refrain]

Ground Rules Cont. Pastoral Planning is not about me - it’s for the greater good of Christ and His Church

+ Everyone contributes/participates

+ We treat each other with respect

+ We focus on objectives - avoid sidetracking, personality conflicts, hidden agendas

+ We don’t interrupt when someone is speaking

+ We listen to gain understanding and avoid judgment

+ We seek consensus and speak as a united front beyond this meeting

+ We hold each other accountable to abide by these ground rules

+ We don’t communicate anything outside of the meeting (yet!)

7

8

What we want to accomplish

“To create a proactive proposal to unite St. Justin and St. Michael Parishes as ONE family”

9

“Why” We NEED To Do This

+ Decreasing attendance in our parishes

+ Decrease in Sacraments (Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, Weddings)

+ One pastor, two churches (Burn-out eminent)

+ Parishes operating in scarcity (Not meeting budgets)

+ We WILL NOT exist as we are now, if nothing changes

+ If WE don’t do this, the Archdiocese could do worse

10

ICE BREAKER

• Small Groups - Partner with someone from other parish – Share 3 things you have in common (2 church things, 0ne personal thing)

• Group leader will summarize the table findings on flip chart

• Presenter from each table will share the information with large group (place flip chart on wall to share)

• Large Group facilitator will then summarize findings on a separate flip chart

Every Need Met

Philippians 4:19

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus”

“Coming together is a beginning; Keeping together is progress; Working together is SUCCESS.” Henry Ford

(Refrain)

Song: We’ve Come This Far by Faith

(Refrain) We've come this far by faith, Leaning on the Lord; Trusting in his holy word, He's never failed me yet. O, can't turn around, We've come this far by faith.

1. Don't be discouraged when trouble's in your life, He'll bear your burdens and move all misery and strife.

That's why we've come this far by faith, Leaning on the Lord; Trusting in his holy word, He's never failed me yet. O, can't turn around, We've come this far by faith.

2. Just the other day I heard a man say He didn't believe in God's word; But I can truly say that God has made a way and He's never fail me yet.
