The FanCat computer catalogue is a modern software interface for the design of fans with
display of the operating results in preselected operating points. FanCat contains the Peerless
Blowers Synergy Series fans, based on performance measurements according to ISO 5801
and helps you quickly and reliably find the optimum fan for your operating point.
1. START SCREENA target-oriented pre-selection is offered on the start screen so that the suitable pro-
duct for the customer application can be found. FanCat is divided into four Tabs:
1. The Product Range tab for pre-selection.
2. The Fan Selection tab with the operating point input and the operating conditions.
3. The Details tab with detailed information.
4. The Watch List tab that summarizes the selection / evaluation and to request a quote.
You can navigate between the four tabs by using the arrow buttons.
By default, FanCat opens under the tab Product Range.
The Peerless Blowers fans are divided into four fan types:
1. Housed blowers
2. Axial blowers
3. Unhoused plug or plenum fans for use in a box (e.g. air handling unit)
4. Unhoused plug or plenum fans for use in a fan array, measured in a box with
dimension 1.5 x nominal wheel diameter.
Only one fan type can be selected. The right column product line shows the applicable fan
series based on the pre-selection.
444 START SCREEN | MENU AND TOOLBARS
In the center column industry application one or more application areas can be selected. This
prevents a fan that is specifically designed for HVAC, for example, from being proposed for
use in industrial technology just because the fan reaches the required operating point.
Several industries or all industries can be selected. The result of the selection is displayed in
the column product lines. If you move the mouse pointer over the name of a series, an
information text is displayed which describes the series in more detail. You can activate or
deactivate all series with the respective button.
1.1 MENU AND TOOLBARSDepending on the functionality, a toolbar can be seen at the top and bottom of the four
tabs. The symbols indicate buttons that perform the following functions for quick operation:
1. Top Toolbar
Opens the user manual as a PDF document
Opens the Explorer to select a project that has already been saved
Opens a settings menu for different options
555
2. Bottom Toolbar
Saves watch list as a file
Adds selected fan to watch list
Jumps to details view
Opens the characteristic curves display
Opens the layout folder for the print preview
3. Menu Bar
• File: „Save project“, „Open project“, „Set up printer“, „Preview printer“
• Options:: Settings mask, licensing and proxy settings
• Language:: Language /unit options for user interface / printer output (details p. 14)
• Help: Contains the user manual, link for email to Peerless Blowers and info window
about the application
666 OPERATING POINT
2. OPERATING POINTIn the upper half of the tab fan selection the entries for the operating point and corre-
sponding parameters are made. Once an entry has been made, fans are searched and the
search result is displayed in the lower part of the tab in the result list.
For the selection, reference is always made to installation category A, static open inlet accor-
ding to ISO5801. The operating point is entered in the first field by specifying the volume flow
rate and pressure increase. The optional m3/s unit can be adjusted under „Language“.
If a speed is entered in the third field, a selection field for entering the tolerance is opened
when entering the flow rate. The selection of a tolerance is necessary, since a fan characteris-
tic curve at a given speed does not usually hit the operating point exactly, but runs close to
the operating point. The tolerance refers to the volume flow and is automatically converted to
the pressure. This results in a tolerance segment on the asset parabola that is highlighted in
red. In the fourth field. the selection can be limited by restricting the wheel diameter.
777
2.1 DENSITY SETTINGSFor the operating point, the technical standard density of ρ= 1.205 kg/m3 at 20°C and
1013 hPa ambient pressure is proposed. Applicable values can be specified for air temperature
and altitude above sea level. With the input the density is immediately updated. A click on the
marked button sets the density back to standard density.
2.2 SPEED AND MOTOR SPECIFICATIONSFor fans that have an assigned motor, the nominal speed is known, so that the nominal
speed can be searched for here. When selecting fans, make sure that the appropriate motor
frequency is selected in the following field. A special feature is the“Variable speed“ setting.
With this setting, a slider is displayed with which the speed can be infinitely varied. The cha-
racteristic curves are recalculated and displayed. However, there is no new search of the fans
for the fulfilment of the operating point. The reason why the listed fans change in the speed
variation result list is that exclusion criteria, such as max. speed or search tolerance, are effec-
tive. When searching for fans, the selection can be made for 50 Hz or 60 Hz motors as well as
for all frequencies.
2.3 ENERGY EFFICIENCYHere you can set the ErP energy efficiency 2015 or the FEI limit. AMCA prescribes a mini-
mum FEI of 1.0. Only fans with ErP energy efficiency criteria, valid from YYYY or a FEI greater
than the set value are listed. Show all means that the ErP criteria or the FEI are not taken into
account for fan selection.
2.4 CUSTOMER-SPECIFIC MEASUREMENTS
If a customer has a license key for customer-specific measurements, the selection optio-
nally be limited to the fans measured for the customer.
888 LIST OF RESULTS
3. LIST OF RESULTSThe list of results lists fans that were found based on the specifications. The 50 best fans
are listed according to the set sorting criterion.
The following search criteria can be selected:
• lowest noise level,
• highest efficiency
• smallest deviation from duty point
• smallest nominal diameter D2
• lowest speed
• minimum unit length
• smallest housing angle
• lowest shaft power
In the first column, the first four fans are marked by default with an icon for evaluation
and displayed with an activated radio button. The marking symbol identifies the characteristic
curves. The radio button can be activated or deactivated with a mouse click. The fans with the
activated option field are output in the characteristic diagrams or in the documents.
999
After the first column, the following columns are displayed.
• fan identifiier
• housing angle in °
• Volume flow in the selected unit,
• Static pressure, free blowing,
• Total pressure,
• Sound pressure level at the specified distance, at 1m without indication if Lp was
measured,
• Sound power level at the specified distance, at 1m without specification if Lw was
measured,
• Preset or calculated speed,
• Shaft power of the fan when measured with a torque measuring shaft,
• Electrical active power of the motor when measured with an electrical power meter,
• Static efficiency related to the power rating,
• Total efficiency in relation to the power rating,
• Installation width with (G) for dimension over housing and (L) for dimension over
impeller
• FEI value, Fan Energy Index according to AMCA 208-18
• Result of the ErP analysis and note number described in the footer of the window.
Clicking the right mouse button on a line in the result list opens a context menu from
which additional information about the fan, including the maximum power, can be displayed
or pictures and data sheets can be obtained.
101010 DETAILS
Clicking the last column „ErP, note“. opens a window showing the ErP data of the respec-
tive fan. To request a quotation or to compare several fans, the product must be added to the
watch list via the context menu. To request a quotation or to compare several fans, the pro-
duct must be added to the watch list via the context menu or the button add to watch list.
For fans, the identifier is preceded by an“F“ for fans, e.g. FDprime!
For a fan wall, the identifier is preceded by the number of fans, e.g. 4*FWDprime!
4. DETAILS
The tab details summarizes the information about the selected fans. The details tab dis-
plays one of two selections:
• the selected fans from the result list or
• the selected fans from the watch list.
The fans in the results list are added to the watch list using the add to watch list button.
If you jump from the watch list to the detailed view, the fans from the watch list are displayed
and the transfer to the watch list is blocked.
The following details are displayed:
• product series pictures in the top row
• a characteristic curve diagram with a green measuring line in the left column
• table with data at the green measuring line in the middle column
• an overview of available documents for the fan in the right column
Above the characteristic curve is a selection field in which the desired characteristic
curve can be selected. The measured value of this characteristic is shown in the table in the
right column.

5. WATCH LIST
The watch list is used to compare the selected fans. As in the result list, the data of the
fans are displayed here. The same evaluation functions of the characteristic display and the
layout folder apply as described. With the button send inquiry the standard mail program is
opened and the selection of the fans along with the selection criteria is attached as a project
file „Name.pfc“ to be sent to Peerless Blowers.
6. CHARACTERISTIC CURVE DISPLAY
The characteristic curves of the marked fans are displayed in a window by clicking on
the characteristic curves button. The type of characteristic can be set in the upper selection
field marked in red. The specified search tolerance is shown in red on the system parabola of
the operating point. The values at the intersections of the system parabola with the characte-
ristic curves (marked blue) are displayed in a table above the characteristic curves.
Clicking the right mouse button in the characteristics map opens a context menu. Two
options can be inserted there:
• show selected points or
• show intersections with system parabolas.
If show selected points is activated, you can then insert a vertical measurement line via
insert new point. The values at the intersection points of the line with the characteristic curves
are displayed in the table above the characteristic curves. Several measuring lines can be
drawn in and positioned with the mouse pointer to the left and right. The light green line is the
last moved line and is decisive for the bar chart sound pressure level at selected volume flow.
The table values at the intersections with the measurement lines can be transferred for out-
put in the layout folder under list of selected points.
121212 CHARACTERISTIC CURVE DISPLAY
If show intersection points with system parabolas is activated, a further operating point
with a system parabola (green) can be inserted via insert new point. The intersections with the
characteristic curves (marked blue) are then also displayed in the table. The table values at
the intersection points with the system parabolas can be transferred for output in the layout
folder under list of intersection points with system parabolas.

7. PRINT PREVIEW
The print preview button takes you to the output of characteristic curves and tables. A
mask opens in which five layout folders can be selected. Any number of pages can be defined
in each folder for the output of the evaluations. The selection of the evaluations is made by
clicking the right mouse button in the white space.
The characteristic diagrams are placed on a DIN A4 sheet. in landscape format The posi-
tion of the mouse pointer determines where the characteristic diagram is placed.
• A click to the left or right of the center of the page adds a column to the page in
which the new diagram is placed.
• A click above or below the horzontal center line adds a row to the page in which the
new diagram is placed. A maximum of three characteristic line diagrams can be posi-
tioned one above the other.
• A mouse click in the grey space outside the sheet opens a new page.
141414 OPTIONS | SETTINGS
In addition to the characteristic curves by volume flow and figure of delivery, the follo-
wing defined evaluations can be added:
• Data Sheet - adds the data sheet of the first marked fan. All available data sheets for
this fan are printed.
• List of selected points - a fixed table containing values at the intersections of the
vertical measurement lines with the characteristic curves.
• List of intersections with system parabolas - a table with values resulting at the inter-
sections of the system parabolas with the characteristic curves.
• Sound pressure or sound power level at selected flow rate - a bar chart with the
measured and converted sound pressure values or sound power values for the volu-
me flow at the activated measuring line (light green)
• Sound pressure or sound power level at the operating point -a bar chart with the
measured and converted sound pressure values or sound power values of the fan at
the operating point.
Finished button - Exiting with this button saves the defined printer output. The defined
outputs are automatically updated when the fans in the evaluation list are changed.
8. OPTIONS | SETTINGSClicking Options in the menu bar opens a window in which font and font size for the prin-
ter output can be selected.
The editor is entered with the date specification in the documents of the evaluations.
The second date field is used for preselection with a calendar function.
Various polynomial degrees can be selected for smoothing the characteristic curve. The
3rd or 5th degree polynomial degree is best suited.

The line widths can be set differently for the
screen display and for printing.
The text language can be set to English and
Russian for printing. In addition, American units can
be selected for the English edition.
By default, the legend for the characteristic
graphics is located at the bottom as footer text. This
can optionally be changed to header text.
The sound pressure values output are based
on the specified distance.
In the lower section of the setting screen you will find the information for the ErP analy-
sis. No entries need to be made here for fans with a permanently assigned motor.
Using the motor data, the corresponding efficiency is read from the Motor efficiencies
table and the ErP analysis is thus carried out.
9. INSTALLATION & SETUPFanCat is obtained via a link from the Peerless Blowers website. The installation of the
program file „Punker_FanCat.exe is placed in the program folder C:\Programme (86)\Pun-
ker_FanCat. The other folders for images and PDFs are created in the user directory under C:\
