• Impacts to Right-of-Way

� 88% of stone walls between Dulac & 78 Slayton

� 60% of trees (total length of project) will need to

be cleared

Scenic Road Designation

• One of Two Processes to Undertake

� §134-5 Effect of Designation as Scenic Road

� Manager to obtain written consent of the Planning

Board after a Public Hearing

� §134-8 Rescission of Designation of Scenic Road

� Requires a petition of 10 Persons who are either voters

of the City or who own land which abuts the road

� Reports Solicited from the Planning Board and

Conservation Commission

� Public Hearing held by the City Council

Existing Conditions

• Slayton Hill Road was built into a hillside

• Ledge and poorly drained soils

• Slayton Hill Road – Reconstructed in 2001/2002 timeframe

• Design was restricted by Scenic Road designation and limiting property impacts

• Culverts generally replaced with new ADS pipe of the same size

• Narrow/shallow swales and underdrains with limited armor in place along uphill side of road

• New Standards � Precipitation Data

Response – Short Term Repairs

• City forces

� Immediate repairs following July 2nd Storm (July)

� Temporary water main

� Roadway repairs to allow traffic

� Widen road to allow minimum two lanes of traffic

� Temporary pavement course for winter maintenance

� Armor washed out ditches

� Additional culvert to divert flows in lower section

• Ditches� Most proposed are V shaped,

1.5’ to 2.0’ deep, 3:1 sideslopes off the road, 2:1 back slopes to match existing ground

� Lower portion includes a 2’ wide flat bottom

� Slopes steeper than 10% will be stone lined

� Slopes flatter than 10% will be grass, with reinforced matting products
