WhyShouldYouStartAmazon?ThefirstquestionIposedwas“whystartAmazon?”.MeandShimmyhadourownreasonsfor

starting,butwewantedtoknowwhatthemotivationswerebehindourstartstudents.Barneywasstuck,hekeptlosingjobsduetodownsizingandcompanyproblems,andthis

uncertaintyledhimtostarthatinghiswork,hisbossesandwantingtogetout.

Imaginehavingabossthatwasnastyandmadeyoufeelguiltyfortakingaholidaythat

you’relegallyallowedtohave.Imaginenotbeingabletospendtimewithyourwifebecauseyourbossisalwaysbreathing

downyourneck.ThiswasBarney’smotivationtogetstartedonAmazon,anditwasavery

powerfuldriver.Ennieontheotherhandwasjusttiredofhermonotonous9-5jobandwantedfreedomto

travelandearnalivingasshewentwherevershewanted,whenevershewanted.

ThisisoneofthebiggestreasonsweseepeoplestartinganAmazonbusiness.Theyjust

wantfreedomfromthe9-5modernslaveryweliketocall‘ajob’,andontopofthattohave

thefreedomtotravelandearnalivingwhereveryouare.ShimmyandIlovetravellingandneededastableincomethatproducedforusevenifwewere

onabeachinVietnam,snowboardingdowntheSwissAlps,ortakingaroadtripdownhighway

1inCalifornia.(Yes,we’vedoneallthesethingsnow,thankstoAmazon.)Herewearefromlefttoright,ontheroadtripinCalifornia,atHalongBayinVietnam,and

snowboardingintheSwissAlps.

IwascuriouswhyelseourstarstudentsBarneyandEnniewantedtogetoutoftheirjobs,soI

probedalittledeeper.SinceI’vealwaysworkedonline(exceptforashort3monthperiodofhavingajobstacking

shelvesinasupermarket)Iwantedtoknowthereasonssomeonewouldleavethe‘comfort’of

ajob,topursuebuildinganAmazonbusiness.Thechallengeseemsdaunting,sotheremustbeaverystrongmotivationbehindstarting

yourownbusiness.

FindingYourMotivationToStartHere’swhatourstarstudentsrevealedaboutthereasonstheywantedtoquittheirjoband

startanonlinebusiness:

Enniealreadyhadsomeexperiencewithsourcingproducts,sothisnewavenuewasperfectfor

her.However,thecomplicationsofsettinguponAmazonwereveryunique,andwehelpedher

withourtrainingtogetontopofitandmakeitasuccess.Barneyontheotherhandhadnorelevantexperiencewithsourcingproducts,hejusthatedhis

difficultjobandwantedout.

WhyUseAmazonToMakeASideIncome?Iwonderedwhymystarstudentsweremotivatedtomakeasideincomeandworkonlineto

makemoremoney,soIaskedthemaboutwhytheyneededmoney.

Enniewantedoptionstodomorethingsinlife.Ontopofpayingforthemortgageand

helpingherstudentseducationdebts,shealsowantedmoreoutofherownlife.Enniewantedtotravelandtoexploretheworld,nowherchildrenaregrownup,andshe

deservesit.StartinganAmazonbusinesswasthebestwayshecouldthinkoftoprovidethis

lifeforher.Barneyontheotherhandwantedtotakecareofhisfamily.Here’swhatBarneyhadtosay.

Barneywantednothingmorethantotakehiskidstoschool,andbethereforthemwhen

theyfinishedschoolHewantedtohavetimeforhisfamilyandtostoptravellingforbusinesspurposessohecouldspendmoretimewiththepeoplehecaredmostabout.

HefoundhewashavingtroublefallingasleeponaSundaynight,feelingsickabouttheweek

ahead.Thisfeelinghadtogo.StartinganAmazonbusinesswasthebestwayBarneycould

thinkoftosolvethisproblemsohecouldenjoyeverysingledaywithhisfamily,andsleeplike

ababyeverySundaynightknowingthathewasincontrolofhisweek.Iprobedalittledeepertofindoutwhatotherreasonsourstarstudentshadforgettinginto

traditionalbrickandmortarstorewhichcancosttensofthousandstogetstarted,withAmazonyoucanstartatafractionofthecost.ThisisagreatreasontochooseAmazonasanonlinebusiness,alongwithallthebenefitsthat

yougetandthefreedomthatitdelivers.Weweresohappythatwerewereabletohelpourstudentstransformtheirlivesandmake

thisbigshift,butwewantedtoknowiftherewereanyproblems.Sothenextthingweaskedthemwasaboutanyproblemsthattheyfacedatthestartof

theirjourneys.

TheBigRoadblocksWeaskedalittlemoreaboutsomeoftheproblemsourstarstudentsfaced,andwhattheydid

tohelpsolvetheseissues.

It’ssad,butmanysellerslikeEnniehavetonsofproblemswhentheystartout.Withoutthe

Likebarneysaid,healsohad‘teething’problems.Thisisaclassicexampleofa‘good’

problemtohave.Whenyougrowtoofastyoufaceproblemslikerunningoutofinventoryandmanagingcashflow.

andhewillcontinuetogrowasheexpandsintonewmarkets.Itgoestoshowthatatfirstwhenyoustart,youmighthavesomeproblems.Howeverwhenyou

havetherightguidanceandadvice,youcangetoveranyoftheseproblemsandturnyour

businessintoahugesuccess.Wenowknowourstarstudentsgoals,motivations,initialproblemsandsomesuccesses.I
