Our Partners in LearningOur Family Support Worker is Susan Dickson. Susan is based full time in the school. She works closely with all Pupil Support Staff as well as liaising with colleagues from Rutherglen Social Work department and other external agencies.
The role of the family Support Worker is to provide support / advice to pupils and their families who may be affected by a wide variety of school, home or community issues. The Family Support Worker is involved in individual support as well as group work programmes. Susan also has a key role in visiting families within their homes.

PC Johnston – Campus Police Officer
PC Johnston supervises both in the school premises and in the community before school, lunch and after school. He is a great support to staff who are involved in duties outside the building. Colin also has a key role in liaising with residents in our community.

Stonelaw High School is committed to developing strong and effective partnerships with our Chaplaincy Team this session. We have put in place a programme of events for the coming session.

Our Partners in LearningWe are in quite a unique position in Stonelaw that we have a Nurse who is located in our building.
Dawn Loudon works very closely with Pupil Support/DHTs. Dawn is a key contributor to the Joint Assessment Team.
She has a key role in the following areas:-•Promoting healthy lifestyles/health schools•Supporting vulnerable children and young people•Supporting children with chronic and complex health needs•Working with children and parents to address identified health needs
Parent Council The Parent Council helps to keep parents informed of all school
developments
Regular meetings take place on the last Thursday of every month at 7.15pm in the Conference Room during school terms, unless that falls on a holiday in which case it is on the following Thursday
All regular Parent Council meetings are open to all parents, providing an opportunity to attend and observe the proceedings

ATOS in partnership with Stonelaw High School
As you know ATOS are the providers of IT for the Commonwealth
Games in Glasgow. We were chosen to be the partnership school for
ATOS in the run up to the Games. We were invited to an ATOS
launch - supporting Team Scotland on Friday 25 October 2013.
The event was hosted by Rob McLean (BBC Scotland) and Steve
Cram (MBE) and involved various activities including:-
Discussion Panel - Powering Performance at the Heart of 2014
Announcement - ATOS Support for Team Scotland
Triathlon Event - challenge to cycle 1000m, row 500, and
then run 514m to make up 2014m (

Ministerial Visit – Tuesday 5 November 2013
The Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport Shona Robison
visited the school on Tuesday 5 November.
The Ministers visit was to launch the Support a Second Team initiative
and to present the school with our plaque to recognize our status as a
Community Sports Hub.
Accompanying the Minister was commonwealth Athlete –
Lindsay Meighan who will represent Scotland in Netball at
the Commonwealth Games.
Pupil Achievements
The Minister arrived at 10.30 - met by our School Captains and be
taken to the Library.
She did a short talk around Sri Lanka being our second team (she is
heading to Sri Lanka later in the week)
The athlete talked briefly about being a participant in the Games and
presented the Queen Relay Baton flag to the school.
There will then be an opportunity (over interval) for a discussion with
our young people who have been working on a number of

Clyde Gateway Project – A joint project between Stonelaw
and Trinity High school – the planning of a large scale event for both schools
in the Emirates arena in the New Year
ATOS – Highlighting the fact that we are a partnership school with ATOS
in the run up to the games – the exposure that we have had to the ICT that
sits behind the delivery of the Games and our most recently our trip to
Hampden to meet Steve Cram (ATOS ambassador) and compete against
some commonwealth athletes

Communication pupils talked the Minister through a project that they
have been involved in which focused on planning the Legacy of the
athletes village

In PE the Minister watched Volleyball and chatted to our pupils.
The sports Hub plague was presented to Erin McNamee 1D1 who
won the competition created the Sports Hub logo when she was in P7
at Spittal Primary.
Radio 4 and the local press interviewed a number of your young
people.
While the Minister is in Sri Lanka (probably the 14 November) a few
young people will take part in a GLOW meet with a school
in Sri Lanka.

International Children’s Games
3 young people from Stonelaw took part in the International Children’s Games in Toronto, Canada over the summer. They were members of the Lanarkshire Volleyball Team. The team came back with a Bronze medal.

SLC Young Apprentice
During the summer a number of our pupils took part in the SLC’s Young Apprentice competition. Along with a number of young people from across SLC they were involved in a wide range of activities over a two-week period.

We had a number of young people participating in Sainsbury’s 2013 UK School Games. The games took place in Sheffield.
VolleyballThree pupils from the school were successful in bringing home Bronze medals in the Volleyball:-

Approximately 45 young people took part in the Lanarkshire St Andrews Hospice Schools 6 km Fun Run/Road Race at Strathclyde Park on Sunday 22 September.
This is the first year that we have entered the Run. Hannah Robertsonwon the girls race. Well done to all participants.

Ross Lyon played the full match and was involved in the build up to
the first two goals. Ryan Watters came on as a substitute for the last
15 minutes.
Murron Cunningham has been selected for Scotland U15 girls’ team
to tour Germany & has also reached final trial for Scottish schoolgirl’s
team.
