Closing #392—Lead Me, Guide Me
St. Charles Borromeo Church October 23, 2016
On Saturday morning at 10:00am in St John Cathedral, eight men were ordained to the diaconate for the Diocese of Cleveland. One was
James Cosgrove, from this parish, and another was Peter Bang, from the Diocese of Daegu in South Korea, studying here in the United State and assigned this year to St Charles. I have asked the two new deacons to join us for Mass this weekend. Deacon James Cosgrove will assist at the 4:00pm Saturday Mass and Deacon Peter Bang is scheduled for the Sunday 10:30am Mass. Deacon Cosgrove is serving his internship at Holy Family Parish in Stow, Summit County. Both deacons, and their six classmates, anticipate priestly ordination in May. Next Sunday, October 30, is a Fifth Sunday of the month. In accord with our long-standing parish practice, there will be a second collection at Mass for the St Vincent de Paul Society of St Charles Borromeo Parish. Your generosity to our SVdeP Society enables our Vincentians to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, and provide—in so many charitable ways-- for the hurting. Also next Sunday, October 30, after the 9:00 and 10:30am Masses, you are invited to a Donut Social in the Lower Parish Hall. Stop by for some good company and something tasty to eat. Thank you to St Charles Parish Council for hosting this event. St Charles Ladies Guild has given us so many wonderful things: Merici Chapel chairs, Corrigan Gym Chairs, Lower Hall tables, repairs to our three church bells, and the list could go on-and-on. The “Guild Girls” are always willing to help. Next Sunday is their Fall Style Show: a great time and a great meal. Tickets available today after Mass in the Parish Office.—so go get ‘em early this week! Thanks to Fr Ed Janoch and to our St Charles Knights of Columbus Council, we will offer in our church the production Therese, the Story of a Soul, on Wednesday evening, October 26, at 7:00pm (no evening Mass Wednesday due to this presentation.) St Therese, the Little Flower, remains one of the church’s most enduring and most popular saints. This Wednesday’s show is appropriate for all ages and family members. The evening is offered at no charge, but a free-will offering would be welcome. St Charles Finance Council members are reminded of our meeting this Thursday, October 27, 7:30pm, in the Rectory Dining Room. First quarter statements will be e-mailed to you. It’s not too soon to think about Halloween! As always, ghosts and goblins are invited to stop by the Parish Office, 6:00 till 8:00pm, for trick-or-treat, on Monday, October 31. During October our Dismas Ministry asks for your donation of greeting cards, most especially Christmas and Birthday cards. Leave your no-longer-needed cards in the blue bins in the church lobbies, Gifts of first-class stamps would also be appreciated, but please put stamps in the offertory or drop them off at the Parish Office. Looking ahead, our dynamic pastoral associate, Brian Pelcin, is offering a Christmas “Deck the Hall” Outing to Akron’s Stan Hywet Estate scheduled for Sunday, December 11. Check the bulletin article for details and registration information. Could you prepare a few big pots of soup on one of the Wednesdays of Lent 2017 for a Lenten Soup Night? If so, give me a call this week at 440-884-3030.
