Sync-E Configuration Guide
1. Connect to STC chassis, reserve ports and connect them back-to-back.
2. Enable Sync-E technology on STC ports.
Click on Technologies tab in STC application to launch Technology Selector.
Go to Technology ���� Carrier Ethernet ���� SyncE
3. Activate Sync-E feature on port.
Click on Port //x/y and go to SyncE tab. Check “Active” and select “Option 1”.
SyncE Option Type: Option 1 for SDH networks (used in European countries).
Option 2 for SONET networks (used in Americas).
4. Add Emulated Device Interface on port.
Click on Port //x/y and go to Devices � Emulated Device Interface tab.
Click on “Add” and select “Create Device – Select Ports”.
And then Select Protocols, Select Encapsulation, Configure devices, Preview and click
“Finish”.
5. Configure Sync-E.
Click on Port //x/y and go to Devices � SyncE tab.
Check “Active” and set “Rate (messages/sec)” to “1” and select “Quality Level ���� QL-PRC”
from the drop-down-menu.
Quality Level options: QL-PRC (For Primary Reference Clock accuracy),
QL-SSU-A (For Synchronization Supply Unit-A accuracy),
QL-SSU-B (For Synchronization Supply Unit-B accuracy),
QL-SEC (For SDH Equipment Clock accuracy),
QL-DNU (For Do Not Use).
6. Configure Sync-E on second Port //x/z.
Repeat steps 3 to 5, except for the following modifications.
i. Step 4 ���� Configure Devices ���� Change MAC address to 00:10:94:00:00:02 and
IPv4 Address to 192.85.1.2 to avoid MAC and IP address conflicts.
ii. Step 5 ���� Quality Level ���� QL-DNU.
7. Save the configuration changes by clicking on “Apply” or pressing “F9”.
8. Go to All Devices, select all ports (Port //x/y and Port //x/z) and start SyncE.
9. Go to Basic Traffic: Results 2 and select Change Result View ���� Select View ����Carrier
Ethernet ����SyncE Results ����SyncE Device Results.
10. Interpretation of results.
“From the Result View window, it is evident that Device 1 which is supplying QL-PRC has
become Master and Device 2 which is supplying QL-DNU has become Slave”.
