Introduction The Russian Revolution occurred in the year 1917. Actually there were two Russian revolutions that year. In March the Russian people overthrew their Tsar, ending a thousand years of autocratic rule of Russia. Six months later the Provisional government, that had replaced Russian monarchy, was itself overthrown, and replaced by a Communist dictatorship. This revolution would lead to the rise of Communism and begin a new type of war that would last for over 70 years: The Cold War.
