TEXT · The Superbowl MEDIUM LEVEL
The Superbowl (pronounced /súperbóul/) is the final match of the American Football
League of the United States of America. In this match, the champions
of the National Conference face the Champions of the American
Conference. It is like the Super-cup in Spain. It is celebrated on the
first Sunday of February. The first Superbowl encounter was
celebrated on January 15th of “nineteen sixty-seven”. The team that
has won it more times is the Pittsburgh Steelers (six times). The
player that has been chosen MVP (most valuable player) more times is Joe Montana (three times).
Apart from the sport, the Superbowl is one of the most important television broadcasts in the United States every
year. Many musicians have performed at the ceremonies before the match and during the break. The advertisement
during the match is the most expensive of all the year, and the day of the match (known as the “Super Sunday”) is
considered a National Celebration: the people eat more food and drink more drinks during the match than on any
other day, except for Thanksgiving Day. The trophy for the winners is called “the Vince Lombardi”, because that was
the name of the coach who won the first two Super Bowls. It is a silver american football, designed by Tyffany & Co. (a
very important jewellery store) and it is valued in 25,000 $ (20,000 € approximately). Besides from the
trophy, each player gets a ring, made from white gold and diamonds.
At the beginning of the match, a famous singer sings the National Anthem
of the United States. Some singers of the past years were Beyoncé (2004),
Christina Aguilera (2011) or Alicia Keys (2013). 120 million people watch the
match at least for some time. The match can be seen in more than 200 countries.
