The Administrator’s Note
Welcome Dear February,
February is that middle month. Not yet the hot and sunny
climax of the year, but certainly not the very busy
beginning of the winter season either, with all its fresh
crisp air and holiday hustle. That lull in the middle. Kind of
like that middle child. The
one who often times gets
the diminished attention
from the parents. We all
know it, we all try to
be equal, but that just
seems to be the way it is.
The first child is the very
beginning of the adventure where all our hopes and
dreams get placed. The last is…well…the last, and that
can be a wonderful thing. The last is also the baby, and
will always be the baby, which for that child, holds its own
benefits and special place in the parent’s heart. But then
it happens, the unpredictable, the surprised awakening,
when that middle child breaks out and makes a name for
themselves. “We never saw that coming, they were
always so in the background”.
(To be continued on page 3)
“Never underestimate
the power and potential
of the perceived lull
in the middle.”

The Administrator’s Note (Cont’d.)
Just as that seemingly dormant
stick shows no promise and then
spring comes and the plant
emerges with a plume of life and
color, so too that middle child, that
middle month has promise. Never
underestimate the power and
potential of the perceived lull in the
middle. You just never know what
that time may allow you to
accomplish, or if it is a person,
what they may flower into.
Happy Middle to All,
- Dave

The Story Of Kate
By Katherine Wismer LPN DORC
In our last chapter, they had just arrived at the Grand Floridian. They got unpacked in their rooms and now it was time to explore. Kate had gotten a scooter and she was try-ing it out around the hotel before they went to the Magic Kingdom. Kate did well, maneuvering the scooter around the floors with Rex riding shotgun — until they made it to the lobby where Amanda heard a crash! Oh my goodness, a crowd gathered around the giant gingerbread house and sure enough there was Kate smack dab on the side of the gingerbread house. She wasn’t hurt, just her pride. Where was Rex? Oh no! He had a big piece of gingerbread house in his mouth and he looked quite pleased. The game was on, Security started to chase him and we all know what happens when a dog is chased. He ran out the front door and down to the long driveway. He hopped on a Disney bus and was on his way to the park. Walter Jr. followed him and together they can be seen looking out the back window. Rex still had the gingerbread in his mouth. Kate didn’t know if she should laugh or cry. In the end, all turned out well. Rex needs to be in a harness and Kate is not al-lowed to ride the scooter without her family with her until she can operate the scooter safely. As far as the giant gin-gerbread house, it was repaired and no one was the wiser. Stay tuned for the next chapter to find out was the veil fatty.

Snippet of the Month
A Season of Fasting and Forgiveness
February is an important month in the religious calendar. February 12 brings Septuagesima Sunday, the start of the pre-Lenten season. The word Septua-gesima derives from the Latin word meaning “seventieth,” which marks the 70 days before Easter. In many countries around the world, this day heralds the start of modern-day Carnival. Yet before the wild and costumed revelry of Carnival became common-place, this long period leading up to Lent and Easter was called Shrovetide.
The term Shrovetide comes from the term shrive, which means “to hear confessions.” During the days of Lent leading up to Easter, people are supposed to go to confession, where the priests shrive—or listen to—the confessors, forgive them their sins, and offer penance. In many ways, it makes sense that Carnival grew from the Shrovetide traditions. After all, Carnival is a time of wild and reckless merrymaking, with many revelers accumulating sins. Revelers could then con-fess their accumulated sins and be forgiven in time for Lent.
The Lenten season not only focuses on confession but it is also a period of fasting. The term Carnival de-rives from the words carne levare, meaning “to re-move meat,” signaling this traditional Lenten dietary prohibition. Most people are familiar with the term Mardi Gras, meaning “Fat Tuesday,” which falls the day before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. Few are familiar with the other name of this day, Shrove Tuesday, or with the other name of this day, Pancake Tuesday. As the last day before the fasting season of Lent, Shrove Tuesday is the traditional day to gorge oneself on the rich and fatty foods forbidden during Lent, such as pancakes. Spain calls this day the dia de la tortilla, or omelet day, and many celebrate by eating omelets made with sausage and pork fat. Of course, all indulgences come to an end on Ash Wednesday, when Lent, fasting, and penance begin in earnest.

Valentine Humor
Candy Love Four-year-old Sam loved candy almost as much as his mom Sally did. He and Daddy had given her a beautiful heart-shaped box of chocolates for Valen-tine's Day. A few days later Sam was eyeing it, wish-ing to have a piece of it. As he reached out to touch one of the big pieces, Sally said to him, "If you touch it, then you have to eat it. Do you understand?" "Oh, yes," he said, nodding his head. Suddenly his little hand patted the tops of all the pieces of candy. "Now I can eat them all." *****************************
Dream A young woman was taking an afternoon nap. After she woke up, she told her husband, "I just dreamed that you gave me a pearl necklace for Valentine's day. What do you think it means?" "You'll know tonight," he said. That evening, the man came home with a small package and gave it to his wife. Delighted, she opened it--only to find a book entitled "The meaning of dreams". ****************************** Valentine Cards
A guy walks into a post office one day to see a mid-dle-aged, balding man standing at the counter me-thodically placing "Love" stamps on bright pink enve-lopes with hearts all over them. He then takes out a perfume bottle and starts spraying scent all over them.

Valentine Humor (cont’d)
His curiosity getting the better of him, he goes up to the balding man and asks him what he is doing. The man says, "I'm sending out one thousand Valentine cards signed, 'Guess who?'"
“But why?" asks the man. "I'm a divorce lawyer," the man replies. *******************************
Wish
A smart, handsome and sexy young man dressed in the most sophisticated man-ner walked into the bar. He noticed a woman staring at him without blinking her eyes with an open mouth. Flattered, he approached the woman and said in his sexiest deep voice - "I'll do anything you wish, beautiful lady, for just $20 but on one condition." The woman was trapped in a moment and asked as if in a trance - "What's your condition?" The young man replied, "Tell me your wish in just three words." After a long pause, woman opened her purse, counted the money and handed it to the man along with her address. She then looked deeply into his eyes and whispered, "Clean my house." ********************************* Shy A very shy guy goes into a pub on Valentine's Day night and sees a beautiful woman at the bar. After a long struggle with his shyness, he finally managed to walk over to her and asked her politely, "Um, would you mind if I give you com-pany?" She made a furious face and yelled at the top of her lungs, "How dare you asked me to sleep with you tonight?" Everyone in the pub started staring at the man who was completely embarrassed. After a few minutes, woman walked over to him and apologized - "You see I am a student of psychology and studying how people respond to embarrassing situations. I am sorry but I was just doing my experiment!" The young man suddenly gave a loud yell, "What do you mean $200?"
