“Rumors” is coming to The Fenton Vil-lage Playhouse Feb-ruary 18th to 28th.
The story begins in 1990’s New York at the anniversary party of Charley and Myra Brock. Unfortunately, Charley has shot him-self in the ear, Myra is no where to be found, the food is in the kitch-en, unprepared, and there is no hired help.
Chris, Ken, Lenny and Claire scramble to concoct a plausible story to tell the other guests until they find out what

has happened. Miscom-munication, confusion and mayhem build as the guests try to get through the evening.
The play is under the direction of Ste-ven Sheldon, whom you have seen many times both on stage and behind the scenes.
We have familiar faces and some new-comers to our stage.
Daniel Ragan (Ken) has been on our stage many times, most re-cently as Fester in “Addams Family.”
Carla Feamster (Chris) is a Players’
regular, a member of the board of directors, and a Fenton police officer.
Ron and Kim Barrett have the challenge of playing husband and wife, Lenny and Claire Ganz and have been in many productions with The Players.
Terrie Harris (Cookie) was last seen on stage in “Bus Stop” as the owner of the diner.
Amber Fullmer (Cas-sie) played Morticia in last summer’s FVP mu-sical “Addams Family”.
David Coffey (Of-ficer Welch) has re-cently joined The
Players and was also seen in “Bus Stop”.
Finally, we have some new faces: Jim Hag-gerty as Ernie Cusack, Tim Maggard as Glenn Cooper, and Alyssa Deits as Officer Pudney. With all this talent, this show is guaranteed to be one of the best. You don’t want to miss it!
Show dates are Feb-ruary 18th, 19th, 20th, 26th, and 27th at 7:00 pm, and Sunday February 21st and 28th at 2:00 pm.

‘To Kill A Mockingbird’ Auditions

On February 3rd (Wednesday) and
February 4th (Thursday) at 6:30pm we will be holding open auditions at the Fenton Village Playhouse for “To Kill A Mockingbird”.
Adapted by Chris-topher Sergel, Harp-er Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning “To Kill A Mockingbird”
will come to life on The Fenton Village Players’ stage.
This cherished lit-erary classic explores the racial injustice that threatens to divide a community. Through courage and compas-sion, lawyer Atticus Finch seeks truth and justice, while his feisty

An American classic for the whole family and a move in an unusual direction for The Fen-ton Village Players!
We are looking for kids 8 to 17 and adults of all ages. Depend-ing on the cast we
could have 15 to 16 members on stage.
Audition goers be cold readings from the script. There is no need to prepare any-thing in advance.

The Players are grateful to be
awarded the first an-nual “$3000 Paint It Forward Charity Giveaway” by Great Lakes Contracting & Painting LLC.
Great Lakes Con-tracting has decided to choose a local non-profit or individual in need of painting for a paint job up to $3000.
According to Great Lakes Contracting’s website, “Our employees (and even some family members) will volunteer their time to a family or nonprofit organization in need. A freshly paint-ed building or home can brighten their outlook and bring a little hap-piness into their lives.”
The Players would like to thank FVP
newcomer, Beth Larson (who debuted in “Fen-ton Follies: Christmas on Broadway” this past December) for nom-inating The Players’ for this giveaway.
“They are very happy to finally have their own
building after many years of performing at the high school,” Beth wrote in her nomina-tion. “I was just in a Follies fundraiser to make money for new lights and sound tech-nology in which they

Although the board is still deliberating on how to exactly apply this generous gift, a leading suggestion is a mural in the lobby.

recognizes Jim Waite, Craftsmen Electrical, for repairing our lampole in the front parking lot.
According to their website, www.Crafts-menElectrical.com, Jim has been sole-owner of Fenton-based Crafts-men Electrical since 1983. Craftsmen Elec-trical is a fully-insured
electrical contractor in the State of Michigan. All of their electricians hold a Michigan Master Electrician’s license.

It’s time again to elect new Board mem-
bers. Often people are asked to join a board and they are told: “You just have to come to one meeting a month.” So NOT true! While I don’t think we should scare folks away, I feel every-one should understand the responsibilities our board members com-mit to as a part of the Board of Directors. We are a working board.
In the Sidebar, the Foundation Center describes the critical legal responsibili-ties of the Board.
In addition to its legal responsibilities, the board acts in a fiduciary role by main-taining oversight of the non-profit’s finances. Board members must evaluate financial policies, approve annu-al budgets, and review periodic financial re-ports to ensure that the
organization has the necessary resources to carry out its mission and remains account-able to its donors and the general public.”
FVP Board members also are expected to par-ticipate in at least one committee (and some-times more) — Build-ing and Grounds, Play Reading, Fundraising, Technology, Market-ing, Finance, By-Laws, Social, and assorted special projects. They are also expected to support our productions — sometimes stepping in when needed as pro-ducers, crew, building cleaners, set builders, program designers, recruiting advertis-ers and patrons, etc.
Board members are goodwill ambassadors of The Players and are always representing The Fenton Village Players whether at the Play-house or out to dinner with their family. Board

members should be able to clearly articulate the organization’s mis-sion, accomplishments, and goals to the public and garner support from the community.
Members need to be able to set aside their personal agendas for the good of the organization.

Three D’s of Legal Responsibility
The board acts as trustee of the organiza-tion’s assets and ensures that the nonprof-it is well managed and remains fiscally sound. In doing so, the board must exercise proper oversight of the organization’s oper-ations and maintain the legal and ethical accountability of its staff and volunteers.
The main legal responsibilities of a nonprofit board are often summarized in the “three D’s”:
• Duty of care: Board members are expect-ed to actively participate in organiza-
tional planning and decision-making and to make sound and informed judgments.
• Duty of loyalty: When acting on behalf of the organization, board members
must put the interests of the nonprofit be-fore any personal or professional concerns and avoid potential conflicts of interest.
• Duty of obedience: Board members must ensure that the organization complies
with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and that it remains committed to its established mission.

Being a board mem-ber is challenging, but very rewarding work, as we know we are helping to maintain a worthwhile and exciting community theater.

Our new website is arriving soon!
The Board has con-tracted Matthew Sem-rau’s Pure Light Studios to design a modern, professional website to replace the temporary website the Players’ have been using since they lost their domain name last June.
The new FVP web-site will be found at www.FentonTheatre.org (as well as several other variations) and feature a clean, new design optimized for the modern web. The website will feature a professionally-designed theme, mobile-browser compatibility, a consis-tent design reminiscent of The Cue Sheet, easy navigation, and regular-ly updated information.
The website is in the final stages of devel-opment and is planned to be completed with-in the next week.
Matthew has been doing web design since the late 90s and has done so professional-ly for several years.

Believe me, no one understands this more than I do,as I have seen to be blessed with a gift of looking like a certainperson that lives at the North Pole for most of the year. You have notlived until you follow me around for a week or so, for example havinga 5th grade boy come up to you in May and say, “Hey Santa, thanks forthat bike you gave me for Christmas last year, It’s finally warmenough that I can get to use it!” And me responding “You’re welcome,that’s why I got you a big bike, because I knew you would have finallygrown into it by May, so that you could ride it!” (FYI, This is notnormal…..From what I hear…. Normal adults go to work for eight hours,go home, let the dog out, say hi to the kids, eat dinner, and watcht.v. until bed time. That is not any of us, or anyone else in Theatre!To quote Martin Short, “I love live Theater 1st, Movies 2nd, T.V. 3rd,and my family 4th!”, lol.)...One of the many things that I have learned from being in theaterfor decades is that I shouldn’t pre judge anyone on their dedicationto theater. I have been a member for about five years
I have performed as an actor in several productions both on main stage and on Second stage. I haveworked as a stage manager, a producer and director. I have chaired the Play Reading Committee for three years.
FVP needs to upgrade the technical aspects of the main theater (lights, sound, etc). If we are to continue to offer Second Stage productions,
we need better lighting and moveable stages for that space. We need to improve our marketing of the theater to reach more in the community.
We need a list of vounteers who can assist with the needs of FVP, thus increasing involvement in the theater.We need to have a Board that works together toward common goals.
BE willing to invest the time and resources it needs to make the technical improvements, even if this means more fund raising. Put together a
small marketing group who will focus on promoting our theater. The Board needs to begin each year by establishing the goals and
objectives it hopes to achieve in the coming year and use this as the guide for the business it will address.
I have served on other non profit boards, at other community theaters and at my church. I know how to work together with a team,
i know how to listen and set priorities and goals. I also served as a union representative, so I know how to set my own personal feelings aside and
work for those I represent.
I worked in the Holly Schools as Department Chair for Special Education for many years before I retired. I know how to manage and direct.
My job involved writing goals and objectives regulaly so I have some expertise in this area. I feel that my skills and personality and experience
will be an asset to FVP.

I have been a member of Fenton Village Players since 2012.

I have served as costume leader for three KTK productions. I have alsoserved as co-producer for two
KTK productions. Additionally, I have led efforts to have KTK in theFenton 4th of July parade and
recently provided the float for the KTK Jinglefest Parade.
What do you see as the greatest challenge for Fenton Village Players?
I think the greatest challenge for FVP is the obstacles that controlthe leadership and it's people. Every
obstacle, every challenge is an opportunity. Often most challengesjust need to be examined from a new
angle.
What suggestions do you have to correct these challenges?
I think that every challenge needs to be considered from a newpresecptive. Every team needs it's
members who have experience and those who bring new ideas. Togetherthe team can use everyone's
best skills to appoarch any obstacle.
What other experiences do you have that would be an asset to FentonVillage Players?
I am currently serving a President of Lake Fenton Little League. i amalso the President of Lawrence
Technological University Delta Phi Epsilon Alumnae Association. Theseroles have allowed me to learn
leadership, team building, problem solving, time management andcountless other skills. I am also an
engineer at Ford Motor Company that allows me to learn everyday theimportance of meeting
deadlines, working as a team and doing what it takes to solve aproblem with dozens of independent
interests at heart. I am extremely organized, have a passion and lovefor family and community and will

1. How long have you been a member of the Fenton Village Players?
I have been a member of Fenton Village Players for the last six years.
2. What other (if any) community theatre groups have you been involved with and for how long?
I have had the opportunity to work with many community theatres throughout the state including, but not
limited to: Fenton Village Players, Owosso Community Players, Clio Cast and Crew, Pit and Balcony,
Flint Community Players, Flint City Theatre, Flint Youth Theatre, Outside the Box Productions, Blue
Herring Theatre Guild, and University of Michigan Flint. 3. Describe your activities with the theatre, both on stage and off.
I have had many opportunities to learn the inner workings of this specific community theatre. I have
served on the board for the last two years before resigning temporarily to care for my newborn. I have
acted in over eighteen productions for Fenton Village Players between the Mainstage and the Second
Stage. I have headed up big fundraising events that help improve the theatre like the purchase of the
Curtain. I have Stage managed. I have Assistant Directed. I have Directed. I have worked lights and sound
on many occasions, and have been involved with many different subcommittee boards like Playreading,
and Building and Grounds as well as Chairing the Advertising/Publicity committee. 4. Why do you want to be on the Board of Directors of the Fenton Village Players?
I feel it is necessary to return to the board because there needs to be a stronger focus on meeting the needs
of our patrons, and the solution to this is in increasing our volunteer base. I want to start a campaign for
volunteer recruitment so that all the duties of Fenton Village Players do not fall into the hands of a couple
board members. I have found that this is what leads to our patrons needs not being met. If we have a bigger
pool of volunteers, we have an opportunity to better serve our patrons. If appointed to the board, I would
also make it my priority to promote an environment that is all inclusive. While still keeping chairs of
committees, I would argue for information to be as transparent as possible. I think if one board member
has all the information about a specific topic, it severely limits us in serving the needs of our patrons. 5. What skills do you have to assist the FVP in achieving our responsibilities to the membership?
I have a great deal of experience in working with local community theatres. By having had the opportunity
to work nearly every area of this particular organization, I feel that my specific skill set would be valuable.
I have experience with Website building, as I am the creator of our current website. I have a willingness to
improve communication with our members as well. I have made this mistake in the past and have learned
that we can’t do it all no matter how dedicated we are. The key to success is not by being superman, but by
asking for help. This is where one’s real sensibility shines through.
6. What do you see as the greatest challenge facing the Fenton Village Players?
I think the answer that everyone wants to hear is that we need to build our audience base which is true.
However; I think our greatest challenge lies in actually accomplishing things. Each and every annual
meeting, we have these ideas for change, but for the last several years, it is seldom that they have actually
been put into action. I think we need to get a better hold on these issues. I think we need to severely
improve our membership experience. When one of our members walk through the door, they should be
able to have access to things instead of us running around like a chicken with our head cut off to find out
how to address a specific question. There are too many things being done by one person, and we really
need to focus on improving this. I also think we need to get board meetings down to less than eight hours,
but that might be asking too much.
7. What suggestions do you have to correct these challenges?
We need better measures for accountability. If we say we are going to do something, we need to have a
way for someone to check up on whether that is being done. Too often we let someone do a project and
three months later find out there is still little to no progress. (I am not blameless here. I have been on both
ends of this discussion). Most importantly, I believe that FVP can do better. It’s not to diminish what is
already being done by the board. I have done the job, and it is a lot, but it’s certainly not the height of our
potential. I would like to see a bigger emphasis placed on Fundraising. Our members love coming out to
social events, and it’s important that we use this as a tactical advantage. We need these improvements
done, but little things here and there that make 50.00 is not going to get us the lighting equipment that we
need. We need to think bigger and do better.
