Atthesametimeanoiltanker (62,000GT)isheadingtowardsthepassagebetweentheGotlandandÖland islands.Aseverestormwithrainfallsandsnowfall,incombinationwithmiscommunicationbetweenthecruiseshipandtheoiltanker,causesacollision.Thecollisionsparksafireontheoiltanker,whichinturnspreadsonthecruiseship.Mostofthepassengers arefromNordiccountries,butthereisalsoalargegroupofItaliansonboard.Theysufferdifferentlevelsofburns,fallingdowninjuries,smokeinhalations,cutsandbruisesaswellascasesofshock.

At6p.m.onFriday,13December2015acruiseship(11,000GT;1,800PAX)isleavingtheGotlandislandtowardstheSwedisheastcoast.
