Inigo was struck by a

canon ball and was wounded

in Pamplona in May, 1521.

Taken to the Hospital

Though at the point of death, on the eve of the feast of St.Peter he began to recover.

Ignatius began to ask the triple Questions…

What have I done for Christ?

What am I doing for Christ?

What I ought to do for Christ?

He decided to go to the Holy

Land and spend his life

there.

He said goodbye to the family before leaving for Jerusalem.

On his pilgrimage Ignatius reached MONSERRAT

went to the cave and inspired by the

Holy spirit he began writing hte

Spiritual Exercises.

Formation in Spain to be a priest

Studies in BARCELONA, ALCALÁ, SALAMANCA.

Ignatius began his study of grammar of Latin at the age of

33.

After two years of grammar studies he went to Alcala to

study Philosophy.

He began to preach the crowd…

A few problems welcomed him in

Alcala.

His theology was questioned.

And was put in jail.

Way to SALAMANCA

Since they could not find any witness in Alcala he was sent to Salamanca and imprisoned there for teaching theology without formal qualifications.

Ignatius was told to study theology to preach the

gospel… He began to learn

Way to PARIS

He went from Salamanca to Paris on foot

searching for the will of God.

In Paris he met a group of men:

FABRO, JAVIER, LAINEZ,

SALMERÓN, BOBADILLA Y RODRIGUEZ.

VENICE: Priests

They were ordained in Venice and left for Rome. They

decided that they would introduce

themselves as companions of jesus if someone asked. ORDENADO SACERDOTE

We shall be known as “Friends in the Lord”

ROME: definite place for the Society of Jesus

VISION OF “LA STORTA”

Just 15 kilometres before entering Rome, they went to the chapel of La Storta

where Ignatius had a vision of god the father

placing him with the son with the words: I will be

propitious to you in Rome.

ROME: At the service of the Pope

The first thing they did was to present themselves at the

disposal of the pope.

Their mission began in helping those most

in need.

27 of SEPTEMBER, 1540

After three months of prayer they decided to found the Society and call it the Society of Jesus. The Pope verbally approved it on

27th Sept. 1540.

This new Religious Order was named

Society of Jesus and they were known as

“Jesuits”

Thus, St.Ignatius founded the

Society of Jesus

St. Ignatius died

in 1556

On 31st July.

Ignatius sent Francis Xavier

to India

The Mission of St.Ignatius continued…

To the whole world

Very soon the Jesuits extended their services to all the continents to work for the greater glory of God.
