What is mongoos: •The Mediterranean Oceanography Network for the Global Ocean Observing System has been established in 2012 to further develop operational oceanography in the Mediterranean sea.
• Mongoos comprises the previuos MOON established in 2004 and MedGOOS established in 1999. • MONGOOS partners have established during the last decade a robust network of forecasting systems spanning from regional to coastal scale they offer a wide range of products to the different users.
•MONGOOS is engaded in activities related to the production and use of operational oceanography services and promote the visibility and recognition of the services with governamental agencies and private companies, encourage their integration at national, regional, european and global level. •MONGOOS co-chairs: E. Alvarez Fanjul (Puertos del Estado, Spain) & G. Coppini (CMCC, Italy) •MONGOOS working groups:
•Observations (in-stu & satellite) •Modeling (forecasting systems)

MONGOOS shall engage in activities related to the production and use of operational oceanography services in furtherance of four principal objectives:
Improved Fitness for Purpose. Continuously advance the scientific understanding and technological development upon which the Services are based.
Greater Awareness. Promote the visibility and recognition of the Services with governmental agencies and private companies, encourage their integration at national, regional, European and global levels.
Increased Downstreaming. Enhance the usability of the Service and their usufulness for policy implementation, societal needs and science.
Improved Capacity. Support the planning and implementation of international initiatives involving operational oceanography and promote the participation of non-EU Mediterranean countries in producing the Services.

Work to be done: • improve the level of information collected during phase1:
– info on data assimilation – Obs used for calval – Systems spatial and temporal resolution – initialization/LOBC – data service: discovery, viewing, download
• share information on the planned developments of the systems • highlight the users needs (national agencies, downstream, scientific….) • Synergies among all the mediterranean systems • improve the collaboration among MONGOOS partners and with other
entities (for example GODAE-OceanView COSS_TT and the EuroGOOS modeling group).
