The reason I want to be on student
leadership is because it would be
really fun and that I am one of the
most responsible kids in our grade.
I think I can make this school more
positive because I know that I am and
by showing that maybe more kids
would want to be positive too. If eve-
ryone in the school was positive there
can have a movie day and go to the
gym with pillows, blankets, or both
and vote on which movie we would
like to watch. Another idea that I have
is that we could do a pajama day and
also just relax in the gym and watch a
movie, that could be a fun day the
whole day and do fun activities in
each of our classes.
wuld be less bullying in the halls
unlike the last few years. Also if the
kids saw me being positive they
could say to themselves, ―Maybe if I
would be more positive and responsi-
ble then maybe our grade can do
more fun thins through the school
year.‖
Some ideas that I have is maybe we

* Lena Lions-volunteer to help with

* Penny Wars
* School Theme Dances, such as, sports

* Bake Sales-to raise money to help with

I have lots of other ideas too, so please
consider me to be on the Student Lead-
ership committee and I promise to give
it my all.
I, McKenzie Temperly, a seventh grade
student attending Lena-Winslow Jr. High
would like to be selected to the Student
Leadership committee. I feel that I am a
kind honest student, a good role model
for the students and that kid’s look up to
me. I also would like to learn more about
being a student leader so that I continue
to grow as a person. I would really enjoy
helping with organizing school activities
and events.
If I am chosen, I will do my very best to
make the school a more positive envi-
ronment. Examples, I would be there to
help kids with their homework or study
for a test. I would help students that are
having problems or conflicts to try to
resolve them without arguing and fight-
ing. I’d also like to plan events for the
school. Make the events that are more
enjoyable for the students because I
know that some of the kids are not very
fond of school. I’d like to get more stu-
dents involved or participate in school
activities and events. Just because they
aren’t on Student Leadership doesn’t
mean that they can’t be heard, involved
or help in anyway.
Here are some ideas that I have for the
upcoming 2010-2011 school year:
* Homecoming Week activities—walk/
cheer in parade
* October– Cancer Awareness-donation
jars at last home game for volleyball and
football games—ask all to wear pink!
* Food Drive– to help local food pantry
* Christmas Caroling-Nursing home and

people respect me not necessarily
that they are my best friend but they
like and respect me enough to vote
for me in student council and peer
mediation.
Whether it is working for conces-
sions or helping someone with their
homework I want to make the school
a better more positive environment.
I have already worked multiple
times in Ghost Grams and various
things in student council so I always
try to make my school a better
place.
Being a student leader means be a
person your peers can look up to, a
person that gets good grades, eve-
ryone likes, and can help change
your school for the better. I feel I
could be a student leader.
I am a person who works hard to get
the grades they get. I predominantly
get A’s but sometimes I get B’s. And
if you want a leader you want some-
one who isn’t struggling just to pass.
I am in multiple sports so I have
learned to work diligently in school
and get good grades to stay in those
sports. Student leaders are people
who not only pass but thrive in a
busy life.
When looking for a student leader
you tend to look for a person who is
well liked by his or her peer’s. I am
in no way saying this is a popularity
contest but you want some one that
everyone likes. Because if you don’t
how well would that work out. If
asked how many friends I had I
would say I have many. I feel many
Student Leader, Jace Oleson’s Winning Essay
Some ideas that I have for the upcoming
year of 2010-2011 are that we could
sponsor a family at Christmas, tutor the
elementary kids after school, have bake
sales to raise money, make breakfast for
the teachers during Teacher Apprecia-
tion Week, have spirit week on weeks of
big games of the high school or junior
high, and have a winter gently used
coat/glove/hat drive for kids and fami-
lies that don’t have the money to buy
them there selves.
I think it would be a good idea to not
have our monthly pizza parties and some
how donate the money to a local family
or charity. We should be doing this for
community service not for free pizza.
I hope I can contribute to Le-Win Student
Leadership this year! Also I hope my
ideas can be helpful you and the Student
Leadership group of 2010-2011.
I would like to be on Student Leadership
because I like helping others, I would
like to be able to do more volunteer
work, raise money for people or a family
that needs it, do more things for the peo-
ple who aren’t thought about as much as
others, and try to make everyone want to
wake up and come to school without
worrying about being made fun of or
bullied and have a good time at school
and say what they want to say without
being laughed at or anything like that.
I think I could make the school a more
positive environment by having every-
one be nice to everyone at least while
they’re at school if they like them or not.
Have us students realize everyone’s dif-
ferent and a lot of us students don’t un-
derstand that so some of the students
don’t treat them right because of the
differences they have. Make ALL the
bullying that goes on STOP!! I don’t get
bullies but I have people come up to me
and talk to me about it because they are
being bullied almost everyday at school,
and I would hate to be one of those peo-
ple and a lot of people bully others when
they wouldn’t like to be bullied so I think
that’s another BIG thing that would make
our school a way better environment!
Also, littering, have us students throw
our trash away not just leave it lay in the
hallways for the janitors to clean up be-
cause its not there job, the piles of trash
the janitors sweep up after school is ter-
rible, I think I could help you make it to
keep our school stays clean and not
messy/dirty with stuff being thrown in
the halls, bathrooms, and classrooms. I
think those thing could help make our
school a much better environment and
place where we as students actually
want to wake up and come to every
morning of the week!

or a bake sale during the school dances.
For the spirit weeks (we didn’t get to
even have one last year, and I know all
year people were looking forward to it),
I was thinking that we could do two or
three a year. We should have different
themes for each week with each day
bringing different events.
For the teacher/staff appreciation week,
I think it would be nice if every student
in the school would do something for
their teachers. This would be an im-
provement on past years, because only
a handful of students do something for
their teachers during this time of year. It
wouldn’t have to be something big, but
just a way of saying thank you to all of
the teachers. What ever we decide, I do
think acknowledging teachers and staff
of all their hard work is important.
I am very happy with the way that the
school is choosing the representative
this school year. Thank you for your con-
sideration, and I hope I can become part
of the Student Leadership committee.
My name is Samantha Klemm, and I want
to be on the Student Leadership commit-
tee. I want to be a Student Leader, be-
cause I think it would be a good learning
experience for me. As a committee
member, I would bring dedication and
many fresh ideas to the school. As a stu-
dent I also bring dedication and hard
work. In school, I do very well. I have
received the Presidential Award since
5th grade, and I get straight A’s. When I
was in 5th, I also earned the honor of
being ―Principal for the Day,‖ after earn-
ing 372 points from the Accelerated
Reader program.
I consider myself a friendly, caring, and
open person. I believe these traits can
be handy when listening to the needs of
other students. As a regular student or as
a student leader, I will always be avail-
able to listen to my classmates and other
students of the junior high school. One
way I think I can make the school a bet-
ter place is to encourage everyone to be
less tolerant of bullying and inappropri-
ate behavior. Many students have heard
the harsh words or felt the mean treat-
ment. I don’t think it’s fair to let the mean
kids get away with their cruel treatment
to others most of the time. Leaders must
lead and help those who can’t defend
themselves. The teasing and making
others feel like outcasts needs to stop.
Another way I think I can make the
school a more positive environment is
by making it more eco-friendly. I think
Le-Win should go green! I think by do-
ing positive eco-friendly projects would
bring the students together. We’d have
a common goal that would benefit eve-
ryone.
Some ideas I have for the upcoming
school year, include more fundraisers,
spirit events, and teacher/staff apprecia-
tion week. For the fundraisers and spirit
weeks we could have fun raising money
and donate the profits to local charity or
needy families. Some ideas for fundrais-
ers we could do are: a car wash, drive-
way shoveling during the winter season

excellent way to give back to the
community and help those in need
