About the contest

We at Tata Tea Kanan Devan are committed to bringing the best quality teas from Kanan Devan Hills in Kerala. While we often spoke of the pristine Hills and our beautiful plantations, there was no better way to help people understand Tata Tea Kanan Devan’s distinctive taste than to take them to the very place it comes from! This led us to organize a Photography Escapade where we called passionate photographers from across the country to participate! They had to share their best 3 photos and the story behind it.10 lucky winners were taken for a fully paid* 3D2N trip to Munnar and one of them will win a camera lens worth Rs.50,000!

Thank you Tata Tea Kanan Devan for giving me such a best in class experience!! Fortunately, this is the best ever birthday I had in my life!! I landed in Munnar the eve of my birthday and got to know so many people. Tea plantations, rain & mist and such a beautiful weather! Words cannot describe how these 3 days changed my life!!!

indiAn MonAlisA

Smile or tears ? I couldn’t distinguish, may be she will be remain a mystery like Da Vinci’s Monalisa. But one could indeed make out the burden in those eyes. The ‘sindoor’ she had on her forehead well announced about the family she was living for, in fact the family she was dying for!!!

nuMerous stories

The High range club Munnar was an exuberantly mesmerizing experience for a novice like me.

This British built club had numerous stories to tell me. I could hear the walls and bricks narrating them to me. The petrichor along with the old smell of the building transcended me to those days.

The opportunity given my the Tata Tea Kanan Devan tea to experience Munnar was incredible! We not only got a chance to experience monsoon in God’s Own Country, but also take photographs for the

A cheerful Morning

Shooting landscapes in India is challenging because of the presence of manmade structures everywhere. As if it were the norm, I saw a brightly colored bridge interrupting the green foliage of the tea plantations. I took it up as a challenge to make a photo that incorporated this bridge of flaming orange. Mother Nature came to my rescue by opening up the skies and revealing a little bit of an optimistic blue sky. After a few minutes, she even kissed the mountaintops with a warm morning light. The arrangement of colors even added a hint of blue to the muddy river!

“i don’t Know the wAy, i just grAze My cows”

People in the mountains generally live by simple means. We were in three vehicles, traveling to the Gundamally tea factory. Our car was the last one, and we fell behind from the others. Our driver stopped by this herdsman to ask him the direction to the tea factory. The man replied with an angelic smile, “I don’t know the way, I just graze my cows.” The simplicity in the words spoke a lot about our relentless pursuit of happiness.

An opportunity to photograph our journey, the monsoon, in the un-explored territories of the Tata Tea Kanan Devan Tea Estates, a lot was learnt, made good friends and had a wonderful time. This is and will be the most memorable time of my life. Thank you :)

While I was recovering from the awe of the foggy landscape, I saw this motor boat piercing through the waters with a lush green curtain of trees. How amazing this must feel to zoom past the greens instead of dragging oneself in the sluggish roadway amidst the concrete jungle. This was NOT a rat race, but a rejuvenating race though a blast of fresh air.

Walking down a muddy rustic road I chanced upon a beautiful virgin maiden.A maiden who looked at me invitingly with her lush green charm, enchanting beauty, and landscaped contours. This maiden was none other than the Tata Tea Kanan Devan Hills.

Of long winding roads.Of sweet canary songs.Of tall green trees.Of that fresh mountain air, I always long. Mesmerizing stories for years to be told.

Let not the unknown scare you; take the road least explored and let the pathway lead you to a lifetime of adventure.

It’s surprising how the destroyed becomes the destroyer. Nature overpowers everything man tries to create over a period of time and engulfs it into its ownself such that little remains.

The journey’s just begun!

Thank you – Onkar Naik

Firstly I would like to thank Tata Tea Kanan Devan for coming up with something so innovative which didn’t really look like competition it was more of a fun trip for all the photographers. Especially for me this is going to be even more memorable cause for last 2 years I’ve been shooting for others, after really long time I got the time to shoot for myself. I met some brilliant photographers and got to learn from each one of them.

A storm came and went but all they focussed on was everything besides the steam.

I didn’t want to keep this shot from my point of view because that would have made it my perspective of temporarily seeing her. Its the table’s point of view, the table that has no gender, no right or wrong and none of the judgmental values of a human, the table that only wakes up in the morning to see her work right here with the same smile on her face, that she’s doing something productive and she’s is helping people look good.

Nature is an Art, painted by a great artist at an unknown time

It is just another Long exposure shot, one of the many you may receive. This then is me being generic.

There are few plans you make for yourself and there are a few plans that destiny decides for you”. One such opportunity came, when I was among the few lucky people who travelled and photographed the scenic Tata Tea Kanan Devan hills in Munnar. The few days I spent there with like-minded photography enthusiasts made me grow mentally, technically and socially. Those beautiful memories will be truly cherished a long way in my life ahead.

Disability is a matter of perception. If you can do just one thing well, you’reneeded by someone. Yes, great things happen when we work together and especially so when it is abunch of young, physically challenged, hearing impaired and mentally challenged adults. Thirty three young adults, work together to create stationery required for the tea gardens and other private firms in and around Munnar.

whiff & dew

Tea lovers relate to this frame and the dew. The madness, it ignites with lasting effect and the sinful craving to see and taste. The tropics turn almost everyone into a poet and the music thrown in with all warmth. The touch of nature and rain is magical and healing. Demons love it too .

Hailing from Kerala I might have visited Munnar more times than all my co-participants combined, but this one trip really blew my lens away. A never before experience of Munnar with a historic place to stay and the rain kissed mountains with lush green all around was too much for any nature lover to take. Thanks Tata Tea Kanan Devan tea for making the experience a truly memorable one.

frAMe Me, sAid the bridge

As the city grew, the beauty that surrounded it grew with it, the small developments of the city started forming shapes and landscapes of its own that only a highly sophisticated camera can make a frame of at every juncture. Each turning started unfolding on its own with a hidden beauty, each bridge started forming a master piece of its own.

Roads started giving more connectivity to the surrounding and it added more character to the so called destination. The electric lines that passed through were ignored by one and the greenery was absorbed in its fullest form. Rains made the place more beautiful while the rain kissed roads gave way to the grandeur of nature in its prime glory!

what more can we ask for?

Wonderful accommodation at High Range Club - every inch of this place seems to have a story and some history behind it.

Lovely weather - I love rains sometimes even when I am in stuck in traffic. Watching the rains from my room in High Range club, I dont know how much time I lost in that.

Awesome food at High Range Club and at the Factory and surrounded by wonderful people sharing their experiences and stories, especially the photoshoot on Saturday Night. Thanks for organizing such a great trip, thanks for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this.

life sProuts everywhere

Monsoon brings life everywhere where ever it makes presence felt. With greener life all around, especially with the new ones sprouting around, the eyes never get enough of the pleasantry.

roAd to bliss

Munnar’s roads are curvaceous, each curve seeming to hide a new mystery and yet another breathtaking scenery. When behind the wheels, you are always in a fix, whether to stop now or keep driving to the next curve. Start stopping and you will find yourself lost among the greens.

I framed this heavenly scene on a trek during the last day of the photography escapade. There was a great light play during that point of time .. I love the highlights on the roads , the single tree on the right the the dramatic clouds..

It gives me a feel that this road leads to a heavenly place

A mobile click !! It strongly justifies the caption-fallen ... The fallen leaf and the fresh droplets fromthe recent rains ...I love the texture of those stones ,that leaf and those fresh droplets of water.. it has a calm after storm emotion .. My favourite image from the trip

The stay was organized at The High Range Club, an exclusive club for tea estate owners! We took them around for a tour of the Kanan Devan tea estates in Munnar where they captured

the beauty with their camers. Take a look at the amazing pictures that we’ve got!

We’d love to hear from you! Stay connected with us at
