SAFE RESPECTFUL RESPONSIBLE
Colossal Community
On Friday 12 April we witnessed a fantastic whole school
community event. Three very brave teachers (Mrs Cooper,
Ms Hilary & Mr Armstrong), our brave school cleaner (Mr
Paul Bourke) and a brave kinder student (Brock Cooper)
shaved their heads to raise money for the Leukaemia
Foundation and Makayla Presbury (Year 1 student). We
were thrilled with the level of support and we are pleased to
report a total of approximately $4,000 was raised!!! We have
invited a member of the Presbury family to attend a school
assembly soon, to receive our donation. Thank you
everyone. What a wonderful effort!
Awesome Athletics Carnival
On Thursday 11 April our school Athletics Carnival was held
at Hudson Park. Students and supporters enjoyed the great
weather and all participants tried their very best and had lots
of fun too. Thank you to all those parents who helped out on
the day. We couldn’t conduct the event without your
assistance. All field events were previously held at school.

ANZAC Day
On 25 April we were very proud to be participants in the
local ANZAC Parade. A group of approximately 60
students and staff from Wollondilly P.S. represented our
school and our student leaders laid a wreath during the
official service. On Friday last week we conducted our
own school service and students displayed genuine
respect and a desire to ensure that we continue to
remember our ANZACS.
Super Staff Development Days
On Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 April all staff undertook
annual training in CPR and anaphylaxis. Teachers were
also involved in workshops on the new English curriculum
to be introduced in 2013. Teachers were also able to
meet in stage groups, at different venues, to share and
discuss ideas and plan for future network meetings. It
was very beneficial professional learning for all involved.
NAPLAN
The National Assessment Program-Literacy and
Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for
students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It has been an annual
event for schools since 2008.
On Tuesday 14, Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 May,
students will take the 2013 NAPLAN tests. NAPLAN
assesses skills in literacy and numeracy that are
developed over time, through the school curriculum.
NAPLAN is not a pass or fail type test, but rather shows
how students are progressing in numeracy and literacy
skills against national standards for all Australian children.

It also provides valuable information that allows schools and
governments to better target effort and support to help all
students achieve their potential and acquire the basic skills
to help them build successful and happy lives.
School Uniform
A reminder that the girl’s winter uniform is the tartan skirt
with black tights, or green trousers. Peak caps are no
longer school uniform.
Historic Achievement for NSW Students, Teachers and
Parents
It was recently announced that NSW would be the first
Australian State to agree to the “Gonski” national education
reforms.
This is great news for students, teachers and parents. It will
mean more resources and a fairer system - and assist our
aim of higher standards and a better education for our
children.
The agreement will deliver an additional $5 billion for NSW
schools as well as continue the NSW Government’s
education reforms, including improving literacy and
numeracy, raising teaching quality and empowering
principals and school communities to make local decisions.

Netball Knockout
On Tuesday the 7 of May, the Wollondilly netball knockout team
played Crookwell in a fun but hard game. The team consisted
of Emma Hayes, Jenna Burgess, Sophie Wheatley,
Eleesha Harvey, Ashleigh Deaton, Caitlin Jones, Meg
Woodberry and Ella Fennamore.
Both teams tried their best, but we were very lucky, and finished
with a top score of 21-9 Wollondilly’s way.
We enjoyed playing Crookwell in an amazing game; we would
like to thank Goulburn’s umpires, Simone Blay and Skye
Deighton and all the parents including Vicki Hayes and
timekeeper Janine Wheatley.
