Chapter2.Definitions

J. “Simulation”meansatechniquetoreplaceoramplifyrealexperienceswithguidedexperiencesthatevokeorreplicatesubstantialaspectsoftherealworldinafullyinteractivemanner.(Gaba,2004)

K. “Debriefing”meansanactivitythatfollowsasimulationexperience,isledbyafacilitator,encouragesparticipant’sreflectivethinking,andprovidesfeedbackregardingtheparticipant’sperformance.

6.4Simulation

Aprelicensure nursingeducationprogram(“program”)mayusesimulationasasubstitutefortraditionalclinicalexperiences,nottoexceedfiftypercent(50%)ofitsclinicalhourspercourse.Aprogramthatusessimulationshalladheretothestandardssetinthissection.

6.4.1EvidenceofCompliance

AprogramshallprovideevidencetotheBoardofNursingthatthesestandardshavebeenmet.

A. Theprogramshallhaveanorganizingframeworkthatprovidesadequatefiscal,human,and materialresourcestosupportthesimulationactivities.

individualwhoisacademicallyandexperientiallyqualified.Theindividualshalldemonstratecontinuedexpertiseandcompetenceintheuseofsimulationwhilemanagingtheprogram.

C. Thereshallbeabudgetthatwillsustainthesimulationactivitiesandtrainingofthefaculty.

A. Theprogramshallhaveappropriatefacilitiesforconductingsimulation.Thisshallincludeeducationalandtechnologicalresourcesandequipmenttomeettheintendedobjectivesofthesimulation.

A. Facultyinvolvedinsimulations,bothdidacticandclinical,shallhavetrainingintheuseofsimulation.

B. Facultyinvolvedinsimulations,bothdidacticandclinical,shallengageinon-goingprofessionaldevelopmentintheuseofsimulation.

A. Theprogramshalldemonstratethatthesimulationactivitiesarelinkedtoprogrammaticoutcomes.

A. short-termandlong-termplansforintegratingsimulationintothecurriculum;

6.4.7Evaluation

A. Theprogramshalldevelopcriteriatoevaluatethesimulationactivities.

B. Studentsshallevaluatethesimulationexperienceonanongoingbasis.

A. TheprogramshallincludeinformationaboutitsuseofsimulationinitsannualreporttotheBoardofNursing.
