Bayards Aluminium Construction is one of the world’s leading companies in engineering, design,
manufacturing and installation of complex Aluminium structures for the offshore, shipbuilding and
defence industry. Bayards is based near Rotterdam with direct access to the North Sea. The solutions
we deliver are always customized to the needs of our customers, and engineered and built to the
highest safety and quality standards and the latest international regulations, such as NORSOK, DNV,
ABS and LRS. Bayards has accreditation according to OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 and EN
1090 and is CE CAT 4 qualified. This, combined with the natural advantages of Aluminium as the
material of choice, makes Bayards the right partner for delivering the most advanced and sustainable
solutions.
As weight issues become increasingly apparent within the offshore construction industry, Aluminium
is gaining attention, due to the significant reduction in weight: up to 60% less than steel. Moreover
Aluminium alloys used in the offshore industry corrode 100 times slower than steel, thus requiring
little to no maintenance, resulting in a durable structure with a very low cost of ownership.
Our focus for the Offshore Wind Industry can be characterized as a full service contractor on a
turnkey contract basis. As an Aluminium specialist, it is our goal to develop light safe and cost
effective structures and products, such as:
• Helidecks complete with support structure, access system, winterization, firefighting equipment

Introduction:
Enersea is a true offshore engineering specialist, offering structural design services, production
systems design and (management) consultancy.
“We believe the future of energy is at sea.”
We explore new options and alternatives to capitalize on the incredible vast amount of energy the
ocean generates in wind and hydrokinetic tidal energy and smaller offshore oil & gas fields.
Philosophy:
Security of energy and the transition into a more sustainable society creates a strong market for
engineering but also requires engineers to start drilling on a well of new ideas. Engineers will have to
dig deeper, where others don’t. See new solutions where others won’t. Utilizing and combining every
source of energy the sea offers. From oil & gas to renewables like wind, hydrokinetic tidal and solar
energy. It requires translating alternative ideas into feasible designs with today’s technology.
These new energy projects ask for very efficient and effective engineering and management. Especially
in the early critical phases of a project, when every decision has a strong impact on its value and
success. There is a strong urge for a single focal point, an overview of the entire supply chain. This
integrated service approach to engineering (project management) provides flexibility and ensures high
levels of quality and innovation power.
Value proposition:
- Specialist knowledge : offshore engineering
- Early phase innovation : lowering LCOE
- Multi-discipline interfacing : all offshore disciplines
- Owners understanding : business objectives

Van Heck is an internationally operating company with 50 years of experience in the field of water
control and management, with offices in the Netherlands and Singapore. Van Heck’s specialty is
often called upon to manage floods. Van Heck’s expertise includes providing tailor-made solutions
for dredging, civil and industrial projects and for government and water boards. Van Heck is also
active in the offshore and maritime industries. Spearheads in these industries are:
Equipment for ballast operations
Van Heck’s ballast equipment is specifically designed for load-outs and float-overs, and ideally suited
for salvage operations. The completely autonomous ballast and deballast system can be entirely
controlled from a central point and has a total capacity of over 40,000 tons per hour.
Van Heck’s capabilities in this field:
• Load-out: Supply a complete ballast system, including (ballast) engineering and operation, to
load a construction from the shore onto a barge.
• Float-over/mating: Supply a complete ballast system, including engineering and operation, to
install a platform on the offshore location.
• Jet trenching: Supply pumps to jet in cables on the ocean floor.
For less complicated operations a mini ballast and/or manually controlled system can be supplied.
Sea Trophy
Van Heck has recently welcomed a new passenger on-board: The Sea Trophy; Green and Easy Oil
Recovery. The first complete mobile pump system that enables the controlled, contained, fast (fuel-)
oil recovery after incorrect or off-spec fueling and in the event of grounding or calamity at sea.
Floodings Somerset, UK 2014
‘This was the largest mobile pumping operation of all time.’ Jeroen van Heck utters these words
with the modesty we have all come to expect from him. He makes it sound more like a dry fact
than an enormous achievement. But he is proud of his company that in the howling winds, rain,
hail and snow, helped to relieve the floods in Somerset.
Somerset, early in February 2014: Jeroen van Heck is in the region already hit by floods for weeks
resulting from continuing bad weather. He is speaking with the Environment Agency about what kind
of solution Van Heck could offer. It’s still a budget question. Then Prime Minister David Cameron
announces the availability of disaster funding. Van Heck receives the assignment almost immediately,
and the first pumps are on their way to England within a few hours: a convoy of 30 lorries loaded
with the equipment needed for the job ahead.
NBCC/IRO/HWE Offshore Wind Mission UK 20-23 June 2016
Jeroen: ‘They arrived early in the morning on the wrong side of the floods, but this problem was
solved by driving the Land Rover ahead of them to guide them over a narrow road that was partially
submerged. Our equipment actually arrived on site from the Netherlands before the local crane! But
as soon as we got there, the next storm hit and made it unsafe to use the crane. That’s why it took a
couple of days for us to really get everything rolling. It then took two days before the water level
started to drop, but we had to keep pumping for weeks to get rid of everything.’
Highly gratifying work
We set to work with the regional contractor who would supply the personnel and Van Heck would
provide the pumps. This meant having a total of four men from Van Heck at various locations in
Somerset in addition to dozens of locals. These workers had to ensure a good foundation for the
pumps, the laying of the pipes and pits for the suction pipes. Jeroen: ‘Local ladies kept bringing us
pies for lunch – we were well looked after. One of our staff even received a cake on his birthday with
“Happy Birthday, Daan” written on it in Dutch. It’s experiences like this that make our work so
gratifying.’
The situation
Somerset gets its name from its earliest inhabitants: people settled there during the summer but had
to leave for the winter when it became too wet. During the 17th century, the Dutchman Cornelis
Vermuyden drained the area to make it a polder. Retention polders designed to contain floods were
a part of the system. Later, a bypass was built next to the River Parret to allow for the faster drainage
of floodwater. But this time, rainfall was so extreme (and according to the local population the cause
was a lack of maintenance dredging) that this bypass’s underpasses were too small, and the drain at
the end of the bypass could not handle the incoming quantity of water. Some villages were already
under water and even the town of Bridgewater was threatened. Van Heck installed pumps so that
water that was not getting through the bypass fast enough could be pumped around them and past
the drain complex into the river near the sea.
Some impressive figures:
• number of pumps: 20
• pipes: 1100 meters
• capacity: 133,800 m3/hour
• fuel consumption: 2,300 l/hour
• transport: 30 lorries

Cable burying IJsselmeer, The Netherlands, 2015
Van Heck has been successful in supplying their client with a tailor made solution for their offshore
cable burying activities for the purpose of placing windmills between Lemmer and Urk, in the
Netherlands.
Using two silenced, diesel driven, self-priming DPPG120-SC200 pumps, Van Heck provided the
flexibility necessary for the varying flows and pressures needed for the burying tool. The piping
arrangement allows for easy switching between single or ‘in series’ operation. Both pump units are
remotely controlled and the flow and pressure are monitored closely from one central point.
Added challenge
The engineers at Van Heck enjoyed the added challenge of fitting the pump system into the limited
deck space available. Using 3D simulation we were able model the pumps and piping on board,
avoiding any surprises during installation.

source to meet the growing demand for integrated and reliable solutions. Thanks to the close
cooperation we maintain with our customers at every stage, we have developed breakthrough
innovations, delivered award-winning projects and generated a strong economic performance.
Saving On Safety?
Improving safety and increasing efficiency are main topics within the offshore market. However,
these objectives tend to be a trade-off or compromise. That is, improving safety inevitably incurs
additional costs. When developing the Flange Clamp Tool (FCT), we insisted on enhancing safety
while reducing OPEX.
The FCT ensures a pre-tension between the flange pile and transition piece, to create a safe
environment prior to, and during bolt installation. It can also be operated remotely resulting in a
secure workplace before people are permitted to approach the area surrounding the flanges. This
pre-tension can be up to 600kN for each tool.
In addition to this significant safety feature, multiple FCTs can be (dis)engaged in a matter of
seconds. This allows contractors to reuse the crane, or even the installation vessel, almost
immediately for adjacent installations.
Efficient and Sure installation of monopiles
The monopile installation method including NMS, guiding tool and several other tools and services
ensures low risk, efficient, accurate and safe installation of monopiles with diameters of up to 8.2
metres (bottom diameter) applied for offshore wind. It reduces operational time, increases accuracy
and provides excellent underwater noise mitigation during positioning and installation of monopiles,
while creating a safer working environment. The system includes features for inclination and rotation
of the monopile, and safeguards against the impact from waves and currents.
NBCC/IRO/HWE Offshore Wind Mission UK 20-23 June 2016
An impressive 350 monopiles have already been installed with this method and it’s the only proven
technology for noise mitigation during pile driving that complies with current international noise
mitigation legislation, including the strictest German regulations in place for all German offshore wind
projects.

Helwin Bèta is an Offshore High Voltage Direct Current Convertor Platform. This means the
Alternating Current coming in from the wind farms, is converted to Direct Current in the Convertor
Platform. This Direct Current is transported via subsea cables and land cables to a Convertor station
onshore, which will transform the Direct Current back to Alternating Current. This transforming
process minimises the energy losses during transport of the energy from the offshore wind farms to
the shore.

The Offshore Service and Logistics Centre of the Southern North Sea
Den Helder Airport and Port of Den Helder jointly facilitate the largest logistic offshore hub of the
Netherlands. Den Helder is ideally situated in the middle of the wind farms off the West European
coasts and established offshore locations such as Aberdeen, Norwich and Esbjerg.
Over the years, thanks to an almost unbeatable combination of a port with direct access to the sea
and a regional airport, Den Helder has succeeded in transforming itself into a leading service and
knowledge centre for the offshore oil and gas industry. And, because there are still more than
enough opportunities for new development Den Helder also intends to take on an important role for
the offshore wind power sector.
Port of Den Helder
Port of Den Helder lets, develops, coordinates and facilitates business areas in the maritime port,
both on and behind the waterfront and on business estates. In close collaboration with the
Municipalities, the Royal Netherlands Navy, research institutes, education institutes and a full-scale
Operation & Maintenance Offshore Supply Chain, opportunities are offered for doing business,
learning and working in the offshore energy industry. Port of Den Helder occupies an important
position as a supply base for the oil and gas industry from which, on a daily basis, 140 gas, oil and
service platforms receive deliveries of supplies and replacement of crew members. With 2,700 port
calls of offshore related sea vessels, the harbor facilitates a growing number of offshore energy
related business.
Den Helder Airport
Den Helder Airport has become one of the largest offshore heliports of North-West Europe.
Helicopters are daily transporting offshore personnel to and from the rigs and oil- and gas producing
platforms on the Dutch Continental Shelf. In recent years, the number of landings has increased to a
total of 22.850 and an average of 140,000 passengers per year pass through the check-in of Den
Helder Airport.
Over the next few years, Den Helder Airport aims to attract new markets. Thanks to a recently
announced permit, the airport can continue to grow to 27,000 aircraft movements per year.
Den Helder Airport has been in development for more and more to form a connecting link between
the different offshore cities. The airport is working on a service between Den Helder and Aberdeen
and there are also contacts to realize the Danish Esbjerg connection. These connections provide
many benefits to the oil and gas industry, offshore wind industry and the business market.
