RavéMehta: No,there'snoroomforfear.

RavéMehta: Thesecondpillaroffearis,thefirstistime,thesecondisattachment.Therearetwotypesofattachment.FirstIwaskindoflike,"Oh,maybeweshouldn'thaveattachments."ThenovertimeIrealized,"No,there'snothingwrongwithattachment.It'sthenatureofhowweareattachedtotheseobjectsorsubjectsofourattachment,"andtherearetwotypes.

Oneisarigidattachment,somethingthatkindoflikeasteelbeamconnectingyoutotheobjectofyourattachment,andthere'salmosttheseuniversalforcesactingonyouthat'screatingstress.Ifthere'senoughstressandoppositedirectionsinthatbeamthat'sconnectingyouto,snapsandyoujustslingshotawayfromeachother.Thewholeexperienceismiserablebecausethere'sstressthewholetime.

TheothertypeofattachmentiswhatIcallgravitationalororbitalattachment.That'swhenthere'snothingholdingyouinplace,it'sjustyourowngravityandthegravityofwhateveritisthattheobjectofyourattachmentthat'skeepingyouguyswithineachother'sforceorfield.Whenalltheseuniversalforcespushonyou,youjustrotatearoundeachotherbutthere'snostressinthesystem.Asdynamicschangeyoucannaturallygravitateawayfromeachotherorclosertogether,butonceagain,it'snatural,there'snostressinthesystem.

ChangingfromarigidattachmenttoanorbitalattachmentwasanotherpillaroffearthatIfoundwouldbreakdownfear.Thedifferencebetweenthetwoiswhenyou'reinarigidattachmentsituation,youarefocusedontheattachmentandwhereitshouldbe.You'retryingtocontrolit.Whereinagravitationalattachment,you'reactuallyfocusedonyourselfinbecomingabetterpersonorgrowingineveryaspect,andthat'sattractingtherightthingsintoyourspaceandpushingthewrongthingsaway.It'sjustaslightshiftinmindset,insteadoffocusingonsomethingelse,focusingonyourself,andtheneverythingcorrectsitself.

Thenthethirdisaveryspecifictypeofattachment,it'sanattachmenttoaspecificoutcome,wecallthatanexpectation.Whenyouhaveanexpectation...Ithinkaboutexpectationas,ifyouachieveanexpectationthere'snorealgloryorjoybecauseyouexpectedit,butifyoudon't,thenthere'sallthesedismayanddisappointmentanddemoralizationthattakesplacethatbringsyourflowstatedown.

However,whatIfoundifwechangeourexpectationstopreferencesandleavingthefinaloutcomeofhowthatintentionisserved,thatwhenyouachieveitthenthere'sthisgreatjoyandelationthattakesplace,andwhenyoudon'tyoustillleaveitopenforotherwaysthatthat'sinitialintentionbeingsatisfied.

Goingback,there'snoproblemwithhavinggoals.It'sjustattachingacertain,veryspecificformandoutcometothatgoalmaynotnecessarilybethebestinterestofyourintentionofwhyyousetthegoalinthefirstplace.Changingtheexpectationtopreference,becauseexpectationsisverytiedtoform,preferencesistiedtotheintention.Justasubtleshiftinmindsetopensitup.Itturnsout,anyoneofthesethreepillars,time,attachmentandexpectation,ifyouknockanyoneofthosethreedownthenfearjustgoesaway.Becauseallofthemhavetobeactiveforfeartoexist.

RavéMehta: Yes,evenifyoujustgetoneofthem,feargoesaway.Ifyou'representthentheothertwodon'tmatterbecausethey'reembeddedineachother,theothertwogoaway.Butifyoucan'tbepresent,sayyouhavetoplanforsomethinginthefuturethenyoumovetothenextpillar,attachment.Ifyoucouldchangethenatureofattachmentthenyourfeargoesaway,butifyoucan'tbecauseit'sashorttermthingthatyouneedtoreallycontrolandmanage,thenyoumovetoexpectation.Ifyoucouldchangethattoapreferencethenthatgetsridoffear.There'skindoflikeacascadeeffect.
