Dear Parents,
A very good friend of mine, Will, has a disabled son Michael, who is now a young
adult. Talking to Will about the journey he and his wife are on raising a disabled son
is inspirational, challenging, heart breaking, motivating and thought provoking. It
continually forces me to question myself as to how I would cope given the same
situation. Would I be capable of such a challenge? Could I manage? Would I
consistently have the energy to be Michael’s advocate in life as Will is? He has to
undertake this role continually because Michael is not able to advocate for himself.
Will talks about what it is like to be told that your child in the womb will most likely
be disabled, the day that the hopes and dreams you have for your unborn child alter
enormously. How harrowing the very first moments of Michael’s life were for him
and his wife as they watched their child endure numerous operations and medical
intervention to stay alive. Will tells the story of being a proud young father walking
his son in the pusher through the country town that he lives in and seeing people
that he knows cross the street because they were not comfortable enough to meet
Michael, or the looks on people’s faces and the awkward silence if they looked in the
pusher and saw that Michael had challenges. He speaks of how difficult it was to
teach Michael how to eat, toilet, talk, walk to the best of his ability and dress
himself. All of these are challenging enough when your child is able bodied.
Will also speaks passionately about the issues Michael was faced with at school.
Everything was extra difficult for him. How do you explain to your disabled child
why he is different? Why he can’t run, jump, climb, learn and play like the other
children? Why he doesn’t get an invite to a party or get to play over at a friend’s
house? A particular aspect that Will found extremely challenging was the attitude of
some of the parents towards Michael being in the school. The questioning of
whether he should be there at all still upsets him to this day.
I commenced teaching not just for the students that achieve well, and behave well,
but hoping that I might be able to make a difference in all students lives. As a
Catholic school we need to embrace difference, be welcoming and accepting. As a
staff we are continually striving to be here for the needs and concerns of 100% of
the students 100% of the time.
At times it can be easy to sit back and judge, making assessments on people,
situations and events without the full understanding. I thank God every day for the
wonderful, healthy children that I have, they bring so much to my life. I know Will
thanks God every day for bringing Michael into his family, the joy and the blessings
that he has bestowed on his parents and his siblings. As parents, we have to lead
by example and model what we want to see in our children. Rather than being quick
to judge others maybe we should take time to consider what it would be like to walk
a mile in their shoes?
Interacting and dealing with Michael is not easy, he can be very challenging at times.
However, he has been a wonderful teacher to me and I have learnt so much off him.
He makes the world a much better place for those who meet him and truly get to
know him.

The Parent, Student & Teacher meetings will focus on goal setting for Semester Two. We ask parents to please bring their child’s report and portfolio to the meeting. Specialist Teachers
(Art, Performing Arts, Library, Japanese, PE and ICT) will be available for Parent, Student & Teacher meetings if required.
Online booking forms will be sent home on Wednesday 17th June.
Bookings will open on Thursday 18th June at 9.00am and remain open throughout the
holidays and close on Tuesday 14th July at 10.00am.
You may go in and change your appointment at any time you wish up until 10.00am Tuesday
14th July.
If you are having difficulty in making a booking please do not hesitate to call 9704 1970 or see Glenice or Romalie at the school office.
There will be no disruption to the school day as all interviews will be held after normal school
time.

Let’s Celebrate Difference Day Thursday June 25th
On Thursday 25th of June Trinity is going to celebrate “Let’s Celebrate
Difference Day”. The Social Justice Leaders and the SRC decided we wanted to explore why people in our world are teased and bullied. When brainstorming reasons, we discovered
that most people comment on things about people that are different. We thought that being different was something to celebrate, as God made us all unique, so at Trinity we are trying to turn our thinking around by celebrating difference and finding similarities. We decided the best way to let people know
that we are proud of who we are, where we are from, what we look like, what we enjoy, and our strengths and challenges, was to share our stories to promote understanding, and to highlight these
things about us.
So on Thursday 25th June we are inviting everyone to dress up or bring something to show everybody
what’s different about them and celebrate it! It may be something they are teased about or self conscious about. We want you to ‘own’ it! For example you could wear a basketball jersey if you get
teased because you’re so good at basketball or you could bring something that represents your country if you get teased about your culture. We are doing this to celebrate differences in people that they may get bullied about, when in fact it’s something special about them to appreciate and learn
about!
Even if you’re absolutely perfect someone will find something to tease you about, so let’s turn it
around and let people know we are proud of ourselves no matter what anyone says!
We ask everyone to bring in a gold coin which will be going to Trinity Families. Trinity Families is a
charity which operates to provide funding for service providers who support families in the Gippsland and outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne. It makes annual disbursements to charities from the monies
earned from its trust fund investments. Disbursements are made without reference to faith or
denomination and are overseen by independent trustees.
Trinity Families runs the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sale Charitable Fund and was established in 2013
to replace the former Bishop’s Family Foundation.
We are requesting that the money raised by Trinity will go to organisations in our area that can
prevent bullying or support victims of bullying.

Let It Take You Over - Mustard Seed Faith
Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time – MK 4:26-34
Jesus was a big threat to the people with power – all because he told simple stories like the one in this week’s Gospel.
The mustard seed is a small seed that spreads quickly and stubbornly. It can take over an entire garden. According to Jesus, God’s Kingdom can grow in the same way. It can spread quickly through
all areas and relationships in our lives. Quickly and stubbornly, Jesus says, God can inspire disciples to spread through society working for the poor, the powerless, and the outcasts. That’s bad news for the people whose power and profit is based on keeping others poor and powerless.
So it’s not that hard to see why powerful people wanted him dead.
Jesus’ message is still explosive and threatening to people who abuse power and profits today. That’s why Christians are being martyred throughout the world. That’s why many people throughout the
world sometimes feel like outcasts.
Does God’s Kingdom invade all areas of your life – school, sports, family, work, friends, weekends, wallet? Do you let Jesus’ values of compassion, respect, forgiveness, and sacrifice for the powerless take root in all those areas? The more God’s Kingdom spreads, the more you might face resistance
from some people, especially those who say Jesus’ words are unrealistic or idealistic. They might even call you a Jesus freak. But the more you get to know Jesus, the more you won’t feel right unless you
let it spread. Why? Because you’ll see how your life more and more provides “shade” for so many people who need you.
In what area of your life is it hardest to let God reign?
The Action Response Plant some small seeds. Be kind to those who “don’t deserve it”. Forgive wantonly. Be more generous
than is sensible. Break the rules in favour of people.
GPBS Parables
This week it was again the Grade 4’s turn to work with the
iPad Cart and myself. We App smashed, which is using a variety of Apps together. We discussed what they have
learnt about in Religious Education about the sacraments, they then used a search engine to find information and
images to do with this topic. They saved these to the photo library. The students then opened the App Popplet
and created mind map using this information, they then inserted this image into another App called Explain
everything where they recorded their understanding of the information they had researched.
The students worked hard and had a great time using all these Apps.

TRINITY CAR PARK For greater safety and visibility, we are requesting that all
drivers reverse park into the marked bays.
Thank you all who use the pedestrian crossing area. You
are demonstrating to your children correct road safety practices. Once children cross the pedestrian crossing into
the parking area, they, for their safety, need to be placed into vehicles promptly. The car park is NOT a meeting area.
The lane around the edge of the car park (closest to the
oval) are for vehicles waiting to pick children up from the
Pick-up Zone ONLY.
The two parking bays closest to the office path are the PICK
-UP ZONES. These are NO STANDING zones. If your
children are not ready to get into your car as you pull up to the pick-up zone, you must continue on and rejoin the end
of the pick-up queue.
There is NO RIGHT TURN when exiting the car park. All
vehicles must turn left for the safety of others and to maintain traffic flow.
THE GATES CLOSE AT 9.00am AND RE-OPEN AT
3.00pm. Occasionally they might re-open slightly later due to school activities.

We Congratulate: The Robert Family (Jasmine Prep H, Savannah 4B) on the safe arrival of their new baby daughter.
We pray for: Mrs Anson (Ben 4I) who is recovering at home after a long stay in hospital; Noel, Jenny Haigh’s mother (Madeliene 6T and Poppy 4I) who is undergoing treatment; Astrid
Buissink’s Mother (Bradley2T) who is very ill; those awaiting the results of tests and those recovering from surgery.
We give thanks for the good results from some tests.
PLAYROOM: It is great to see the children using the playroom equipment but please put toys
away after use and pick up biscuit/snack pieces which have fallen on the floor. We have never had rodents in this room and we want to keep it this way. Thank you.
THANK YOU: for the good uniform pieces which keep arriving in such good order and in such numbers. The Other families are very
grateful for your thoughtfulness.
MELBOURNE’S CHILD MAGAZINE is delivered to the Playgroup each month. The copies are
just inside the Hall entrance doors and you are very welcome to take a copy. They are free and contain many good articles on children up to the age of Five.
WANTED : PLASTIC BAGS …THANK YOU IN ANTICIPATION!
This weekend we are back into Ordinary Time in the Sunday Readings. Just as we have
celebratory occasions, anniversaries, birthdays and the like, so does the Church. And then we
find ourselves in the dailyness of life and living - as does the Church community. So the
Readings this weekend are from the Eleventh Week in Ordinary Time Year B.( The Readings
are in a 3 year cycle on Sundays and a two year cycle on weekdays…makes for confusion
doesn’t it? but it does mean we get to hear more of the Scriptures!) We hear Mark’s version of
Jesus trying to explain to his listeners what the Kingdom of Heaven is like: a seed planted – a
mustard seed – (Mums show your children one if you have some in a spice jar – it is the
tiniest of seeds!) It is a little like the ad. for one of the Super Funds at present – ‘from little
things, big things grow”. Jesus uses what his listeners are familiar with to explain the truth He
is trying to get across!
Jesus, you are so conscious of the understanding of your listeners. Help us
to use familiar examples for your children when they ask questions of us for
which we stumble to find answers. Amen
OUR LADY HELP OF CHRISTIANS PARISH
DID YOU KNOW ? The Passover is an important Jewish feast which commemorates the deliverance of the people
of Israel from slavery in Egypt (see Exodus 12:1-13:16). The blood of a sacrificed lamb was daubed on the doorposts of the homes of the Jews so the angel of death would ‘pass over’ their
dwelling and kill only the first born of the Egyptians.
The Passover Festival included a ritual meal with the eating of unleavened read, cooked lamb
and the drinking of a ritual cup of wine. Jewish families still practice this ancient ritual today.
The Passover is more than a remembrance of a past event; it makes present again the reality
of God’s sav-ing action.
After Israel had been liberated from Slavery in Egypt, god entered into covenant with them at
Mt.Sinai. This is a special relationship. ‘I will take you as my people and I will be your God’ (Ex 6:7). This meant that Israel had to live in a certain way. They had particular obligations to
follow in keeping their side of the agreement.

NEPAL EARTHQUAKE Donations to assist victims of the Nepal earthquake can be made through Caritas Australia
www.caritas.org.au who have people on the ground in Nepal and who are working closely with Caritas International to deliver aid and assistance. As mentioned on Caritas website: According to
initial estimations, 8 million people in 39 districts have been affected. Caritas Australia staff are currently on the ground and working alongside local Caritas Nepal staff to co-ordinate the emergency response, which will include providing emergency shelter, food, water and hygiene kits.
YARRA THEOLOGICAL UNION A Catholic College of the University of Divinity is taking enrolments for theological study in second

HOME MASSES The Parish Pastoral Council has initiated a series of Home Masses for the rest of this year. Each Mass will be celebrated in one of the 5 Parish Regions:
The Regions are: 1. Bethlehem (Berwick area)
2. Galilee (Hallam area) 3. Emmaus (Narre Warren South area) 4. Nazareth (Narre Warren North area)
5. Jerusalem (Narre Warren area) The Emmaus region was the first to celebrate a Mass last Thursday evening at the home of Ashley
and Annabelle Burrows. Eight families were very happy to share this Eucharist together and remained for fellowship with a cup of tea and biscuits. The next Mass will be on 18th June 2015, details to follow.

BLINGO
Information about our Blingo night that is being held on Saturday 8th
August 2015, will go home to families in the coming weeks. Blingo is going to be a fun night with Bingo, Live Auction, Silent Auctions and other
Games.

We would greatly appreciate donations towards our Blingo (adults only event) in August, and the Father’s Day Raffle in September. If you have any new items you would like to donate, please drop
