Earthquake…. – Mag = 9.1 RS, depth = 30 km, epic in sea – Ground shaking is about 4 minutes

…followed by tsunami – Tsunami height 4 – 30 m – Peoples has never seen anythings like that, so that

causing panic

–Previously there was NO WARNING!!! 3

• 132.000 died • 37.000 missing • 572.000 homeless • 1.3 million buildings destroyed • 8 dock destroyed • 85% water network can not used

again • 92% sanitation system can not

used again • 120 km road and 18 major

bridges were destroyed • Total losses is about US$ 5 billion

Therefore to reduce casualties, Indonesia needs a system to provide

earthquake and tsunami informations to publics quickly and accurately !!!

SINCE OCTOBER 12, 2011: INDONESIA (BMKG), INDIA (INCOIS), AND AUSTRALIA (BOM) RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING TSUNAMI EARLY WARNING TO INDIAN OCEAN COUNTRIES.

Conclusions • EQ and tsunami warning system is very important

to reduce risk as impact of them. In Indonesia the system called InaTEWS.

• Development of InaTEWS start at 2005, after giant EQ and tsunami 26 December 2004

• Indonesia Tsunami Early Warning System (InaTEWS) be able to produce quick EQ information and tsunami warning within 5 minutes after the EQ origin time.

• EQ information and tsunami warning disseminate by fax, telephone, email, TV, internet, and sirens.
