Turbidity and Suspended Solids Controller
Liquisys M CUM 253
Liquisys M CUM 223
Due to the modularity of its design, theLiquisys M CUM 223 / 253 controller canbe adapted to a wide range of customerneeds. The basic version, whichprovides simple measuring and alarmsignaling functions, can be equippedwith additional software and hardwaremodules to match specific applications.Retrofitting of expansion modules is alsopossible.
Areas of application
• Waste water treatment plants, suspended solids measurement
• Effluent treatment• Water treatment and monitoring• Drinking water• Surface water: rivers, lakes, ocean• Service water• Indirect discharge• Water recycling
Benefits at a glance
• Measuring controller in field orpanel-mounted housing
• Universal application– One instrument for turbidity and
suspended solids− Units: FNU (formazine standard,
equals NTU), ppm, g/l, % or % SS• Simple handling
– Logically arranged menu structurewith plain text in 6 languagesfacilitates instrument configuration
– Large, two-line display indicatesmeasured value and temperature atthe same time
– Ultrasimple calibration with usersamples and alarm signaling forcalibration errors
• Safe Operation– Overvoltage (lightning) protection
according to EN 61000-4-5– Direct access for manual contact
control− User-defined alarm configuration for
alarm contact and error current− Sensors are factory-calibrated with
formazine standard and SiO2
− Automatic sensor self-recognitionwith calibration data transfer
• CSA GP* and CE approved(* plese consult factory)
The basic unit can be extended with:
• 2 or 4 contacts for use as:− Limit contacts (also for temperature)− PID controller− Timer for simple rinse processes− Complete cleaning with
Chemoclean• Plus package:
− Any current output configuration viatable
− Automatic initiation of cleaning incase of alarm or limit violation
− Display in customer units (e.g.density) via table assignment
− Live check of sensor• HART® or Profibus PA and DP• 2nd current output for temperature
The Power of Know How
Details Liquisys M CUM 223 / 253 provides asolution for all drinking waterprocessing, process water and sewagetreatment applications.
Features of the basic version (TU):
Measurement of turbidity orsuspended solidsThis is selected via the menu. Duringmeasurement, the value measured canbe displayed in the other measuringmode. The temperature is displayed atthe same time if desired.
Different alarms are required dependingon application and operator. Thereforethe Liquisys M CUM 223 / 253 permitsindependent configuration of the alarmcontact and error current for eachindividual error. Unnecessary orundesirable alarms can be suppressedin this manner.
Up to four contacts can be used as limitcontacts (also for temperature), toimplement a PID controller or forcleaning functions.
Direct manual operation of thecontacts (bypassing the menu) providesquick access to limit, control or cleaningcontacts, permitting speedy correction ofdeviations.
The serial numbers of the instrumentand modules and the order code can becalled up on the display.
The TS version provides additionalfunctions:
In order to display wide measuringranges while still achieving a highresolution in certain ranges, the currentoutput can be configured as requiredvia a table. This permits bilinear orquasi-logarithmic curves.
The live check issues an alarm whenthe sensor signal does not change overa defined period of time. This may becaused by blocking, passivation, orseparation from the process.
Soiling quickly results in excessivemeasured values. Automatic cleaningprevents alarms and inaccuracy causedby soiling.
In addition to concentration (ppm /% SS), the display can also showother units (e.g. density). A table isused for conversion (calibration in %).

All connections to the panel-mountedinstrument CUM 223 are established viathe terminal strips on the rear.In the case of the field instrumentCUM 253, all wires (including the sensorcell cable) are connected to terminals ina separate wiring compartment.
All the wiring can remain in place if theinstrument needs repair because allrepairs are limited to assemblyreplacement. So, dismantling theinstrument and rewiring are no longernecessary.
