The preterite of regular ar verbs

Escalar

Remember that in English we add –ed to form the preterite tense. In Spanish we drop the ar/er/ir and add the endings.

Remember you must have an accent in 1st and 3rd person singular.

Verbs that end in –car, like: Buscar, practicar, tocar

Verbs that end in –zar, like: Utilizar, organizar, almorzar

Verbs that end in –gar, like: Navegar, llegar, jugar

Verbs with a spelling change in the yo form

Yo pratiqué el fútbol ayer.

Why is there is spelling change in 1st singular?

Remember these are still regular verbs with a spelling change so you still need an accent in 1st and 3rd person singular.

The endings for er/ir are the same. You still have an accent on 1st and 3rd person singular.
