TABLE OF CONTENTS
The University of Oklahoma (OU) is an extraordinary university known for
its academic excellence and strong sense of community, providing a major
university experience in a private college atmosphere. Our community is often
called a “family” because we care about one another and encourage the sharing
of knowledge, ideas and culture. Our world-renowned professors challenge
our students to think critically and to be hands-on participants in the learning
process. Services and programs are in place to support and ensure our
students’ success at the university level as well as in their future careers.
You are invited to learn more about OU’s academic reputation and
community on the pages that follow. Find out for yourself why the
University of Oklahoma is a destination for students not only from Oklahoma
and all 50 states in the US, but from all around the world.
Our Norman undergraduate
population is just over
20,000 students.

positions at OU. This number has
increased from 100 in the past 20
years, demonstrating OU’s strong
commitment to excellence.
OU enrolls more than 30,000 students with over 2,700 full-time faculty members,
providing a major university experience in a private college atmosphere. Currently
there are almost 2,000 international students from more than 100 countries on the
Norman campus.

The University of Oklahoma is
a global community. OU is home to
nearly 2,000 international students
from more than 100 countries, and
also home to almost 300 international
faculty and staff members. Our
students, faculty and staff represent
a great diversity of cultures and
nationalities. Our community is made
stronger by this diversity, at a place
where we all benefit from learning
from one another.
And OU has been recognized for
its international student enrollment.
OU is the only public university in
the United States to be awarded the
prestigious Davis Cup two years in a
row by the Davis United World College
Scholars Program in recognition
of its record-setting enrollment of
UWC international freshmen. The
Davis Program is the world’s largest
international scholarship program for
undergraduates.
In addition to welcoming
students from all around the world,
OU also is committed to providing
a global education. The College of
International Studies was created in
2011 as a reflection of the university’s
vision of advancing international
educational opportunities for OU
students. The College works to
provide a range of opportunities for
students to learn about the global
community in which they live.
Part of a global education is
personally experiencing the world
around us. To provide opportunities
for our students to travel and see
the world, OU has permanent Study
Centers in Arezzo, Italy; Rio de
Janeiro, Brazil; and Puebla, Mexico;
and we offer exchange programs
with other universities across the
globe. Nearly one out of every four OU
students studies abroad in programs
we offer in more than 200 cities and
80 countries.
At OU you will find a truly
international experience as part of
OU’s global community.

The University of Oklahoma
is a nationally and internationally
recognized university shaping the
global community through superior
education, world-class research
and exceptional service to society.
It is our mission to provide the best
possible educational experience for
our students through excellence in
teaching. Our faculty and students
personally interact in the classroom,
as students work side-by-side with
their professors on cutting edge
problem solving. OU is a model
of what a great American public
university can be. As a student
at OU you will have an enriching
educational experience that allows
you to excel in today’s global society.
Research
In addition to the individualized
attention you will receive in the
classroom similar to that found
at small private universities, at
OU you also will discover the
benefits of attending a major
research institution. OU’s research
enterprises bring together university,
governmental and private sector
programs and entities in a learning
community where each benefits
from the participation of the other.
Most importantly, our students gain
hands-on experience that enhances
their education and prepares them
for the future. For more information
about undergraduate research at OU,
visit uresearch.ou.edu.
Facilities
In recent years almost
$2 billion in construction projects
have been completed or are
underway on our campus. Students
have access to technology and
learning environments that rival
private industries such as our oil
rig simulator (the only of its kind
at a university) in the Engineering
Practice Facility, our student-run
advertising agency in the Gaylord
College of Journalism and Mass
Communication, and our stock
market trading floor in the Michael
F. Price College of Business. To
learn more about OU’s state-of-
the-art learning environments, visit
ou.edu/go2/facilities.

Creating a sense of family is
important to us at the University of
Oklahoma. Programs and activities
are organized to promote a feeling
of togetherness.
International Student Organizations
There are 23 international
organizations at OU. These range
from the Indian Student Association
to the Society of Chinese Students
and Scholars to the Turkish Student
Association and everything in
between. While you are at OU you
can meet others from your home
country, and you can share your
culture with students here.
OU Cousins
The OU Cousins program brings
together international and local
students. Students are paired as
“cousins.” Together they share their
cultures and attend events, building
friendships that last forever.
Eve of Nations
Every April people across
Oklahoma come to OU for the
‘Eve of Nations,’ an annual fashion
show and talent competition.
International student groups show
off their national attire and perform
traditional and non-traditional
dances as viewers enjoy a sampling
of food from around the world.
Friends to International Students
The Friends to International
Students program pairs
international students with a family
in Norman, assisting students as
they transition into the OU and
Norman communities.
Leadership & Volunteerism
At OU we understand the
importance of volunteering. We have
an entire office devoted to helping
students find ways to serve our
community.

International Student Services (ISS)
The Office of International
Student Services (ISS) provides
expert immigration advice for all
international students at OU and
their dependents on F and J visas.
ISS is the federally designated
office for maintaining international
student immigration records and
routinely reports international
student data to the federal
government through the Student
and Exchange Visitor System
(SEVIS) database.
After international students
have been admitted to OU, they
begin working with the ISS staff to
receive the university immigration
document (an I-20 for F-1 students
or a DS-2019 for J-1 students)
required for the visa interview.
Upon arriving on campus, every
international student is assigned to
an ISS advisor based on selected
major. ISS advisors work tirelessly
to inform students of federal
regulations associated with F and
J visas, assist students in filing
applications with United States
Citizenship and Immigration
Services (USCIS), and answer
questions international students
might have about their immigration
status. The relationship between
international students and their
ISS advisor is an important
one. While it is the student’s
responsibility to maintain lawful
visa status while studying in
the US, ISS strives to make that
process as smooth as possible.
Academic Support
Since every member of the OU
community is unique, we provide
individualized support services to
help students reach their goals. With
a student-to-faculty ratio of just
18 to 1, you will interact with faculty
and staff members who make it a top
priority to be available to students.
Through programs like the Writing
Center (which offers help on all types
of writing projects), free tutoring,
one-on-one academic advising each
semester and classes that help you
with your transition to college, you
will receive valuable assistance from
your freshman to your senior year.
Career Services
As a graduate, you will also
have access to our career services
resources to ensure you continue to
excel. The Office of Career Services
enhances the career development
of students by teaching career
planning/job search skills. They
coordinate on-campus interviews
for companies seeking to hire our
graduates and help students find
internships.
SERVICES FOR STUDENT SUCCESS
15
Residence Halls
The OU Residence Halls are
fully furnished with community
and suite-style rooms available.
All first-year students must live in
the residence halls. Students have
access to 24-hour laundry centers,
computer labs, social lounges
and study areas. Each floor has a
resident adviser, an older student
who is a great resource for all your
campus and OU-related questions.
RAs also program events and
activities in each community,
providing you with plenty of
opportunities to meet the people
living around you. Take a virtual
tour at ou.edu/housingandfood.
The Global Community floor in
the residence halls is a very popular
option for international students
new to OU. Half of the students
living on this floor are international
students and half are American
students, promoting intercultural
friendships and community. This is
the only residence hall that offers
a community kitchen so students
also can share their cultures
through food.
Apartments
After the first year, many
OU students choose to live in
university-owned apartments.
Traditions East and West have
units that are fully furnished with
a kitchen and washer/dryer. All
bills are paid and wireless internet
and cable are included. The
apartment complex has a pool and
hot tub, putting green, volleyball
and basketball courts, as well as a
clubhouse with a 24-hour fitness
center. Kraettli Apartments offer a
family housing option. There you
will find furnished and unfurnished
units available. All are 2 bed/1 bath
with a full kitchen included. All bills
are paid and wireless internet and
cable are included.
Dining
Couch Restaurants is the
main place that freshmen will eat
and is conveniently located by the
residence halls. Couch Restaurants
houses 14 unique dining concepts
inside! With just one meal, students
gain all-you-care-to-eat access
to all of these options. This one
location has every cuisine you can
imagine, including Mediterranean,
Mexican, Italian, custom-order
stir-fry, burgers grilled to order, a
dessert shop, vegan and vegetarian
options and even the world’s only
all-you-can-eat Chick-fil-A! We also
have more cereal options than any
campus restaurant in the Big 12!
To see a 360° virtual tour of Couch
Restaurants, visit ou.edu/go2/virtualdining.
In addition to Couch
Restaurants, there are 20 other
dining options on campus where
you can use your meal plan.
Safety
OU has implemented many
safety measures to promote a
secure campus. With its own police
officers and many other security
measures, the OU Police Department
is dedicated to crime prevention and
safety information for our campus
community. SafeWalk is a free
service that utilizes Housing resident
advisers, who are screened and
approved by OUPD, to accompany
members of the university
community anywhere on campus
when they call to request the service.
Staff members are readily identifiable
by special shirts, coats and badges.

NORMAN AND OKLAHOMA CITYNorman
OU is located in Norman,
Oklahoma, just thirty minutes from
Oklahoma City (OKC), the capital
of Oklahoma. Our state is located
in the center of the United States
which makes it easy to travel to all
parts of the country.
Living in Norman allows you to
experience the best of both worlds
— a small town community with big
city resources. It is a classic college
town, with a thriving local music
scene and boutique shopping on
Campus Corner, a historic district
within walking distance of campus.
Norman is also called “the city of
festivals” with over 25 each year
including the Medieval Fair, Norman
Music Festival, Jazz in June and the
May Fair Arts Festival.
Oklahoma City
Oklahoma City, a major
metropolitan area of over one
million, provides students with
exciting entertainment options,
including shopping, dining along
a river canal and access to NBA
games for our internationally-
acclaimed Thunder basketball
team. OKC also provides a great job
market for internship opportunities.
Oklahoma City is ranked as the #1
City for Job Creation by Gallup, and
CNBC lists Oklahoma City as the
#1 city in terms of the lowest cost
of living! In addition, CNN Money
ranks OKC as the third best city in
the United States for jobs. These
factors make OKC a great spot for
our graduates to live and work. To
learn more, visit ou.edu/go2/okc.
Oklahoma has four seasons. The
average temperature in spring is
15.5ºC, in summer is 35ºC, in fall
is 20ºC and in winter is 5ºC.
OU’s Norman campus is only
30 minutes from the Oklahoma City
Will Rogers World Airport, which
allows for quick and easy travel.
