Why this procedure ?

• I have met a lot of people discouraging the firmware update of your Korg CX3 V2,

• That's a great pitty as that upgrade enhances the usage of the keyboard as a hammond replacement very much.

• As I didn't find a comprehensive step by step guide anywhere I decided to provide this one by myself aggregatin various resources I found on the internet and my own personnel experience.

WARNING: This procedure is for KORG CX3 V2, with the

drawbars over the keyboard not on the side !!!

WARNING

• Follow the procedure step by step, don't miss anything and everything will be ok

• It's safe, I did it various times on various cx3 v2's and it always worked !

• Sit back and relax, the procedure is safe, but …anyway I must say "Do it at your own risk" as it's impossible for me to be accountable of any particuliar problem you may encounter

Do You already have latest firmware revision ?

• Power on the Korg CX3• If you have the drawbar animations, the software is already

the latest, DONT DO ANYTHING !• If it's just writen KORG CX3 without the drawbar

animations, you should upgrade following this procedureOR else• Power on the CX3 while pressing presets 1 and 8 at the

same time if revision isn't 2.01, then it's not the latest firmware , you should upgrade following this procedure

You should upgrade if you see something like:Ipl V2.00  000422AB

Prerequisites

• KORG CX3 V2

• Strong and reliable power supply for all hardware (cx3 + computer)

• Reliable "usb to midi interface"-> at least 1 midi In / 1 midi OUT

• Drivers for usb to midi interface installed

• PC with Windows XP or Windows 7

STEP 1 Prepare the CX3 V2 for the upgrade

Power on the Korg CX3Select Global for global parameters menuSet global midi channel to 1Set Midi RC SYS EXEC parameters to ENA (enable)

Save your changes:press Write - press Global - press Writeagain

Power off the Korg CX3

STEP 2. Install physical midi connexion between your computer

and the CX3 V2

• Buy a professional "midi to usb device" with at least 1 midi IN and 1 midi OUT connector

• Install drivers for your "midi to usb device"• Plug in your "mido to usb device" into your computer (usb)• Connect your "midi to usb device" midi IN connector to your CX3

midi OUT connector• Connect your "midi to usb device" midi OUT connector to your CX3

midi IN connector• If it is an option available, set your "midi to usb device" default midi

channel to 1 (that may not be necessary as generally all channels will be available)

STEP 3: Check your firmware version and enable CX3 for

upgrade

• Power on the KORG CX3 while pressing 1 and 8 presets at the same time

• The firmware revision will show something like V2.0 IMDB DDD

• Your CX3 is now ready for upgrade !

STEP 4 Prepare your computer

• It works on Windows XP and Windows seven !• Completely deactivate your screen saver• Set your battery settings to never stop nor the

computer nor the harddisks !!!• Download the software upgrade

• Stop all other unnecessary applications on your computer

• Install the software (in windows 7 as admin)

STEP 5 Run the software installation wizzard

Set the midi channels to use

• Midi Input (your midi to usb device IN)

• Midi Output (your midi to usb devide OUT)

Test your midi link

• I failed this test when the dump midi parameter was not enabled you MUST set Midi RC SYS EXEC parameters to ENA (enable) (refer to the CX3 manual)

You have already done the Power off/on and press 1-8 earlier, if no,

do it now !

Updating the firmware, about 10-15 minutes !

• First Sub then Main processors

Updating main Processor, last step before ultimate happyness

You are king of the WORLD !!!

• Power off your computer• Power on your computer• Look at the wonderfull drawbar animations while

powering on• Congrats you raised your keyboard value by 250 US$ at
