Unit 2 Goose Hunting Cibola National Wildlife Refuge

The boundaries and the regulations for hunting on the Refuge can appear complex, especially for hunters not acquainted with the area. Make sure you know where you are hunting and what, if any, special regulations are in effect.

Most of the Refuge is located in Arizona; areas west of the Old River Channel are in California. Read and sign this brochure before hunting on the refuge.

• Hunters must possess a license and any required stamps from the state in which they are hunting.• Waterfowl hunters must possess bothState and Federal Waterfowl stamps,(duck stamps).

Weapons • Approved non-toxic shot is mandatoryfor all gun hunting regardless of thespecies being hunted.• Possession of lead shot and lead slugs is prohibited.• Persons possessing, transporting, orcarrying firearms on national wildliferefuges must comply with all provisions offederal, state, and local law.• All shotguns must be limited to a 3shell capacity.• Hunting or shooting within 50 yards ofany public road is prohibited• Target shooting or the discharge of aweapon except to hunt is not permitted.

Check-in • Hunting on Unit 2 is permitted only onTuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, andSundays. Unit 2 hunt fields will bereserved for youth waterfowl workshopDecember 8th & 9th. No regular goosehunting (other than the youth hunt)will take place.• Cibola NWR will continue using alottery based reservation system toallocate hunting permits for Unit 2goose hunting blinds for the 2018/2019hunting season. Reservations will beavailable for Tuesday/Wednesday andSaturday/Sunday hunts

starting on November 24, 2018 through January 27, 2019. No hunting blinds will be available between December 9 & 10, 2018, during the annual youth waterfowl camp. Any questions may be directed to the Cibola National Wildlife Refuge at 928/857-3253.

• Hunters may be selected for amaximum of one hunt block, and maybring up to three companions to huntin the reserved blind. For example,an applicant may be drawn for oneweekend totaling two hunt daysduring the 2018/2019 hunting season.However, a standby drawing will beheld at 4:30 a.m.(MST) each huntmorning to fill non-reserved blindsand reservation no-shows. Huntersmay hunt as standby hunters asmany times as they wish. Allreservation permit holders willchoose one of the nine availableblinds (lowest permit numberchoosing first) on the morning of eachhunt day.• Hunters may apply for the2018/2019 Cibola NWR Unit II goosehunt by mailing in their; name,address, phone number, email, andlicense number and their top fourchoices for the dates they wish tohunt to:

Permit applications must be received by November 3, 2018. Applicants will be notified via email, phone, or mail by November 10, 2018 if they have been selected for the hunt. There is no longer a fee required for this hunt. • All incomplete and illegible applications will not be considered in the drawing process. Hunters are reminded that those applying for dates in January 2019 must have an Arizona hunting license valid for 2019.• All hunters must check in and be registered at the goose hunter check station by 4:30 am MST on each hunt morning. In addition standby hunters will be selected to fill open blinds at 4:30 am for registration. Late arrivals will not be accepted.

• Hunters are not allowed to changeblinds. Hunters may only hunt theblind they have selected.• Hunters must hunt from within theirdesignated blind, except to retrievedowned birds. If blind is flooded then thehunter has the option to lay down adjacent ground blinds.

Regulations: • Absolutely no driving off of designatedroads.• A minimum of 12 goose decoys isrequired.• Shooting hours are one-half hour beforesunrise until 12:00 p.m. MST. Huntingshotguns MUST be cased during non-shooting hours. Hunters must remainconcealed in their blinds until 10:00 a.m.MST.• Two blinds (5,13) are available forpersons with disabilities possessing an AZCHAMP permit. If no CHAMPpermittees are present, then these two blinds are available for other hunters.• Hunters must follow all regulationsposted at the Unit 2 check-in station.Violation of regulations will result inremoval from hunt for the remainder ofthe day.• No hunt coordinator will be present.Hunters are reminded to be sportsmanand practice good hunting ethics.

Cibola National Wildlife Refuge Unit 2 Goose Hunt Permit All hunters are required to sign and carry on their person this hunt brochure. This serves as a valid permit for Unit 2 refuge hunts.

Due to a raised water table, the field for blinds 7-11 are no longer planted. Blinds can still be used if hunters want to hunt in the fallow field.
