Using Green Screen in the Classroom

Green Screen App and iMovie Capabilities

Curriculum ideas

Implementation: Student Planning• What is your topic?• What images or video do you

need?• What will you say?

1. Pick a background image (pre-loaded on the iPad).2. Determine how you will pose.3. Ask your neighbor to take your green screen photo.4. Open the GreenScreen app.5. Wait for my directions (or look at the presentation from the

conference website).

Using GreenScreen App: Creating your video

• Open the Green Screen App on the iPad.

• This is the home screen.(Note the sample project. It is very helpful.)

• Click the + to create a new project.

Insert your green screen image or video

• Click on the + on the middle row of the timeline.

• Select Image.A.

• Locate your image on your iPad.• Click Use.

Chroma Filter Information• After you insert your

green screen image, you will see the Chroma Filter.

• It should automatically turn itself on. If not, click on the on/off button.

• You can adjust the filter but this is generally not necessary.

Insert your background image.

• Click on the + on the bottom row of the timeline.

• Select Image.• Find your image on

your iPad.• Click Use.

Resizing your green screen image• Pinch your image to adjust the

size and to rotate.

Exporting your image

• Click on the “share” icon in the Green screen app.

• Click Save to the Camera Roll.

• You will get a message that says your image has been saved to your Camera Roll.

• You can now go to your camera roll and AirDrop or email your image to yourself, post it to a website, etc.

How to Turn on AirDrop How to drop a pictureOpen the photo roll and tap the picture you want.

Click the share icon.

The list of available devices with airdrop enabled will show up in the list.

Click on the device name and answer the prompts.

Advanced: Inserting more than one background image• You may want to insert more

than one background still image. To do this:

• Scroll your green screen video over to where you want your next image to begin.

• Click on the + sign on the bottom timeline. Select your image.

• Repeat until you have inserted all of your background images.

Two still images are now showing in the background.

Notes: Background still images• When you insert a still

image, it will go on forever in video mode by default.

• In order to change the amount of time your image plays, scroll the timeline to the end of your green screen video.

• Click the clock.• Your background image

should how be grayed out. When you preview your video, it will stop after the green screen portion has played. A.

Notes: If your background video is too long…

• You may need to adjust the amount of time your background video or image plays.

• If your background video is too long: click on the video and scroll until you can see the end. Grab the video by the white dot and move it in to reduce the length.

Notes: If your background video is too short…

• If your background videois too short you can insert the same video again, insert a still image, or insert a different video.

• Scroll your green screen video over to were you want to insert the next video.

• Click the + sign on the bottom timeline.

• Select the video or image you want to insert. A.

Notes: Exporting a video• Select a size.• The higher the number, the

better quality the video. • You may have trouble emailing

your video to yourself if it is too large.
