Design Proposal

Our design for Alto Pass vineyard aspires to create a playful and unique experience for its occupants and visitors. By reversing the expected conventions and orders of typical vineyard architecture, the visitor becomes a voyeur. The building is approached by walking in between rows of grape vines. When the visitor is inside, the space feels distinctly outdoors. Openings to the sky, where wall should meet ceiling create the sensation of a hovering roof above the visitors. An open courtyard sits at the center of he space; lined with sliding wood framed, glazed doors, the courtyard can be closed off in inclement weater. Beyond the court-yard, the visitor can view bathroom lounge, defined by its stacked wine bottle wall. Inside the bathroom, stalls are accessed by slipping in between semi-transparent partitions. Only within the stall, the visitor is offered a double-height view of Alto Pass vineyard.
