From the Pastor’s Desk The other day I was at a store and I noticed that they have all their Christmas items
on display and for sale. The problem with that is it is still October. I remember as a kid
that those items did not show up until after Thanksgiving, along with those great toy
catalogs that we would spend hours going through and circling the things that we
wanted on our wish list for Christmas. Now, it seems we no sooner put away the beach
chairs and we are pulling out the Christmas trees.
This same principal can be true in our lives. We no sooner finish one thing, and
before it’s even over, we are on to the planning and thinking about the next thing. I
can tell you I can be very guilty of this myself. The problem with always thinking about
what is next is we often miss the moments we are experiencing right now. We get too
busy and miss all of the great things around us. It is possible for us to be present and
absent at the same time. In this we are physically somewhere, but mentally we are
checked out. This is nothing new; we see this same thing happen throughout the Bible
and throughout history. It is always a dangerous thing when we are present, but
absent. We miss so many moments even though we are physically there. Today most
people experience the most breathtaking moments through a 4.7 by 5.5 inch screen.
We want to videotape it to show our friends and family instead of just taking it in. We
have to be careful that we do not miss the moments we will never get back just
because we are thinking, “what’s next?”
One of my favorite times of year is Thanksgiving. It has always been a time of great
family tradition for me. It is also a time that we are to stop, or at least slow down
enough, to count our blessings and enjoy our families. I am not sure when it started,
but I have seen many people in social media use the month of November as thirty days
of thankfulness. In that, each day they write down one thing that they are thankful for
in the month of November. I would challenge you to do the same. It is easy to see all
that we do not have. It is easy for us to just move on to the next thing. This month
slow down a little. Enjoy the moments you are in each day, and be thankful. Take time
each day to write down and thank God for something that you are thankful for, and do
not only be present for these moments, be engaged in them.

Please note that if you are unable to attend this event, there will be another
opportunity to celebrate following the morning service on Sunday, December 31.

Our children’s small groups meet for Sunday School at 9:15am in the Children’s Ministry wing. Our Youth Sr.
High class meets at 9:15am in Rooms 250-260 and our Youth Middle School class meets in Room 120.
Adult classes are offered at 9:15am and 10:45am. Pick up a brochure at the rack in the Lobby for details.
Adult Sunday School Classes through December 3
9:15am: Marching Orders - Jesus’ Farewell Ministry to the Disciples (John 13-17) - Teacher: Todd Miller - Room 240
John spends five chapters detailing the last few hours that Jesus spent with his disciples before He was
betrayed to be crucified. In these hours, Jesus washed His disciples’ feet, predicted His betrayer, gave many
teachings about He and the Father, clarified the role of the Holy Spirit, and instructed the disciples about their
relation to the world. It all ended with Jesus' High Priestly Prayer in chapter 17.
This six-week class will look at each of these events and examine how they relate to us today in 2017.
Come and see what Jesus has to say to you about discipleship - His marching orders for the Christian life.
9:15am: The Case For A Creator - Teacher: Ed Kerr - Room 225
Former atheist, Lee Strobel, has discovered that science, far from being the enemy of faith, can provide a solid
foundation for belief in God. New scientific discoveries point to the incredible complexity of our universe, a
complexity best explained by the existence of a Creator. In this revised six-session, video-based study,
participants are invited to encounter this evidence, which is delivered in a compelling conversational style.
10:45am: Anxious For Nothing - Teacher: George Cross - Room 250/260
(This is a five part series that will conclude on November 26)
Over the past few decades, studies have shown that Americans are the most anxious people in the world.
We take the most medication for it, see doctors to treat it, and spend fortunes trying to relieve it. How have we
let our fears get the better of us?
In Anxious for Nothing, Max Lucado leads readers to reflect on the promises of Philippians 4:4-8. This passage
from Paul's epistle contains an antidote to anxiety that will help you develop a mindset of resilience. Rediscover
the power of prayer and take control of your thoughts. You can rest in "the peace of God, which surpasses all
understanding”.
Sunday School - “A Place for Growing… A Place for YOU!”

Sanctuary. The budget for 2018 and a Bylaw change will be presented for approval, and election of officers

Christmas Kids Watch Sign Up On Friday, December 1 we will be having our Christmas Kids Watch, 5:30-9:00pm. If you’re a parent and
want to kick off this busy Christmas season with a break, please sign up your family for this event. Our teens
will be offering this free service to our church by babysitting kids (birth to age 12). There will be sign up tables
in the Lobby on Sundays, November 19 and 26. You may also contact Pastor Rigel, 914-830-6970,
gacyouth@gmail.com, or the Church Office, 724-837-1122.
Christmas Gourmet Caramel Apple Youth Fundraiser Beginning Sunday, November 12, students will begin raising money for our summer trips by selling Gourmet
Caramel Apples. Also on November 12 we will be giving out free samples at church in the Lobby. Over the next
four weeks we will take orders that will be filled the week before Christmas in time for people to enjoy or
distribute as gifts. Students will use the money from this fundraiser to either fund their missions work trip to
Houston, Texas or for our camping trip to the Creation Music Festival. Keep an eye out for our table, and an ear
out for future announcements.

Moms 24/7 Since Thanksgiving is this month, November is typically a time that makes people think about what they are
thankful for. Besides looking forward to a delicious turkey dinner and being grateful for how God provides for us,
at the top of the list of things to be thankful for are our family and friends. People that we love and lean on take
priority and Moms 24/7 is a great way to make those kinds of relationships.
With that in mind, we hope you will ‘carve’ out some time to meet with us this month! Our November meetings
will be held on the 14th and 28th
We’ve got an extremely fun Mom’s Night Out planned for Sunday, November 19. It is our annual White Elephant
Gift Exchange Party. It’s a great night full of food, laughter, and friends. If you’ve never been to Mom’s Night Out,
this is a great time to come. Bring a snack to share and a silly/wacky gift all wrapped up for the gift exchange.
Continue to watch Facebook, email, texts, and handouts for additional details.
Moms 24/7 is a ministry for moms of ALL ages with children of ALL ages. Whether you are a first time mom or
you have grandchildren, Moms 24/7 is for you. Whatever your schedule or stage of life, we hope you make
Moms 24/7 part of your life. It is not only an opportunity for you to get refreshed and encouraged, but also a
chance for you to refresh and encourage other moms. We meet regularly the second and fourth Tuesdays of the
month, September through May. For questions or more information, please contact Joanne Kreinbrook,
724-433-4585, or email kbrook93@msn.com.
Christian Action Committee (CAC) Don’t forget to vote! Tuesday, November 7 is General Election Day!
The annual Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Campaign is underway and will run through November 19.
Forms are available at the table in the Lobby for providing shoeboxes filled with a variety of small gifts for children
throughout the world, ages 2 to 14. Filled boxes need to be returned to the table in the Lobby on Sundays,
November 12 and 19. A monetary gift of $9.00 per box is requested to cover shipping charges. Prayer will be
offered over the shoeboxes on Sunday, November 19 during the Worship Services. As an added bonus, when you
bring in a shoebox you will receive a coupon for a free Chick-fil-A sandwich or nuggets (while coupon supply lasts).
Help will be needed at the shoebox collection center (Greensburg Free Methodist Church, Topper Road) on
Monday, November 20. Shoeboxes will be packed into cartons and loaded into trucks for delivery to the
Samaritan’s Purse headquarters in North Carolina. If interested, sign up at the table in the Lobby, November 12
or 19.
The monthly visit to Weatherwood Manor Assisted Living is scheduled for Saturday, November 18, from 2:00-
3:00pm. A program will be presented and a craft will be made by the residents. Light refreshments will also be
provided.
The next meeting of the Christian Action Committee will be held on Sunday, November 26, 12:15pm, Room 230.
The Wrapped in Love outreach to provide gifts to children of inmates in Westmoreland County Prison will begin
on Sunday, December 3. Watch for more details in the December newsletter and Sunday morning bulletin.
Young At Heart If you are age 55 or older, join us for our next meeting on Thursday, November 2, 11:30am in the Fellowship Hall.
Our speaker for the day will be Pastor Lu. Bring a sandwich to eat; dessert and beverages will be provided by our
committee, Pat Fellers and Kathy McCullough. As usual, coffee will be ready by 11:00am for our early birds. We
look forward to seeing you on November 2!

Men’s Weekly Bible Study Fellowship The Men’s Tuesday Morning Bible Study meets at the church at 6:30am in Conference Room 550 with the
study being completed at 7:30am. Weekly attendance is not a requirement, and all men and their sons are
welcome to drop in as their schedule permits. Resolve to get into the Word of God and let the Word of God
get into you!
Men’s Sunday Prayer Ministry Every Sunday morning prior to the worship services, men come together to pray for the services and our
congregation. All men are welcome to join us in the Prayer Room located near the Sanctuary.
Have You Moved? Changed Phone Numbers or Email Addresses? If you have moved, changed phone numbers, or have a new email address, please indicate the changes on your
Sunday bulletin information card or email the Church Office (churchoffice.gac@gmail.com) so that we may keep
our records up to date.
This is also a good time to sign up for our texting and email notifications if you have not already done so. This
service keeps everyone informed when an emergency situation arises, activities are cancelled due to weather
conditions, or service changes. To sign up, check the box on the back of your bulletin information card or email
the Church Office with the following: name, cell phone number for the texting service and/or email address.
If you are signing up for the texting service for the first time, it is very important that you “opt-in” which verifies
with the texting service that you wish to receive notifications from GAC. You will receive a text message from
“GbgAlliance@symt.us” and you must reply to the text to “opt-in” or you will not receive notifications. Standard
text messaging rates apply. Email notifications will be sent from our Church Office email address -
churchoffice.gac@gmail.com. Notifications will also be posted on the church website (greensburgalliance.org)
and Church Office phone system (724-837-1122).
GAC Friday Night Basketball Outreach All men and teenage guys are invited to join us for our Basketball Outreach on Fridays, 8:00-10:00pm starting
November 3, at the Mountain View Elementary School. Cost is $2.00 per person. Bring your friends and enjoy
the company of Christian men and teens while having fun playing basketball! Contact George Cross for
additional information, 412-292-3281.
Severe Weather Cancellation Policy When severe weather conditions make it necessary to cancel a church service, Wednesday evening activities,
or other event, notice of the cancellation will be sent through our texting and e-mail notification service.
Cancellations will also be posted on the church website (greensburgalliance.org) and Church Office phone
answering system.
For Wednesday Awana meetings, weather will be monitored and an announcement made by 3:00pm if
activities are cancelled. Notifications will be made by the texting and email service, or you may check the
website or call the Church Office.
If you have not already signed up for notifications and would like to, instructions are listed in the article below.

Hotshots All-Nighter - November 17-18 - 11:00pm-7:00am Yep - it’s that time of year again! Our annual Hot Shots All-Nighter is right around the corner! We will meet at
Hot Shots in Mount Pleasant (482 Bessemer Road) on Friday, November 17 at 11:00pm. Pick up after the
event on November 18 is 7:00am at the arena. For those of you who may be new to AY, every year a number of
area churches come together and have a joint All-Nighter at Hot Shots Sporting Complex in Mount Pleasant, PA.
It is a fun night filled with tons of stuff to do (dodgeball, huge tube complex, roller skating, and pizza).
The cost of the All-nighter is $20.00. Tickets must be purchased in advance by signing up in the youth Sunday
School room and will be available up to Thursday, November 16. Please contact Pastor Rigel or see him at
Youth Group for more details.
Post Church Operation Christmas Child Prep Party - November 12 After church on Sunday, November 12 we will meet in the Fellowship Hall to organize the supplies for
Operation Christmas Child. This prep is a big part of being ready to pack the boxes at Youth Group the following
Thursday. It also helps us know what supplies we will need for any last-minute purchases. A light lunch will be
served. This event should last about two and a half hours.
Operation Christmas Child Packing Date - November 16, 6:30pm For the past three months we have been collecting items for our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes as well
as money to cover the shipping cost. These shoeboxes are an amazing way to share the Gospel and bless
underprivileged children throughout the world. We will be packing and praying over the shoeboxes at Youth
Group on Thursday, November 16.
The food for this year’s packing party will be catered by Chick-fil-A! Each student will also receive a coupon for
a free sandwich or nuggets. This will be your last chance to get your items into the shoeboxes, so bring all
donations (both cash and shoebox items) by that date. We are still in need of toiletries and toys (big and small).
Christmas Kids Watch Volunteer Sign Up On Friday, December 1 we will be having our Christmas Kids Watch, 5:30-9:00pm. Our Youth Group will be
offering this free service to our church by babysitting kids (birth to age 12) to give parents a night off. Teens
interested in volunteering should sign up ahead of time in the youth Sunday school room. Teens should plan on
being at the church from 5:00-9:15pm (babysitting will run from 5:30-9:00pm).
Christmas Caramel Apples Fundraiser Beginning on Sunday, November 12, students will have a chance to begin raising money for our summer trips
by selling Gourmet Caramel Apples. Also on November 12 we will be giving out samples at church in the Lobby.
Students will have the next four weeks to take orders that will be filled the week before Christmas in time for
people to enjoy or distribute as gifts. The money from this fundraiser can be used for either our Restore Houston
trip (June 9-16) or our Creation Festival trip (June 27-July 1).
Reminder: Youth Group will not be held on November 23, due to Thanksgiving!!!

Awana is fun with a purpose… to reach and train children for Jesus Christ. Each week there are Bible lessons,
Scripture reciting, games, music, and lots of other fun activities. Our program is comprised of three age-
appropriate clubs: Cubbies for preschoolers age 3 before September 1 and 4 year-olds; Sparks for grades
Kindergarten through Grade 2; and Truth & Training (T&T) for Grades 3 through 6. Check-in starts at 6:30pm at
the Children’s Ministry registration desk. Please enter the building at the Awana/Office entrance.
November Activities: 11/1: Cubbies Awards Night - Parents are invited to see their children receive their awards in the Cubbies
classroom at 7:45pm
11/8: Thankfulness Tree
11/15: Carnival Game Night
11/22: Awana will not be held tonight due to the Thanksgiving holiday
11/29: Trim-A-Tree Night. Bring socks to hang on our tree to be donated to children in need
Bible Quizzing Our first Bible Quiz Meet was hosted by Cherry Tree Alliance on Saturday, Sept 30. Approximately 80 students
from 7 area churches participated in the Senior and Junior Divisions. Junior quizzers (grades 3-6) quizzed on
1 Corinthians chapters 1-3, while Senior quizzers competed on their knowledge of 1 Corinthians chapters 1-6.
Both of our quizzers, Andrew Wallace and Paul Obringer, quizzed in the Senior Division on teams from Cherry
Tree Alliance. Andrew scored 20 points, while his team took 9th place with 14 points in the Senior B Division.
Paul scored 120 points, and his team is in 7th place with 29 points in the Senior A Division.
The second Quiz Meet will be held at Somerset Alliance on Saturday, November 4. Seniors are responsible for
learning 1 Corinthians chapters 7-10, while Juniors need to be studying 1 Corinthians chapters 10-11. Please
pray that students will make time to study God's Word on a daily basis, and that in the process they will grow in
their relationship with Jesus!
Restore Houston: Summer Youth Group Missions Trip We are excited to announce that our Youth Group will be taking a domestic missions trip to Houston, Texas
June 9-16. On this trip we will be spending a week partnering with local ministries to restore homes that were
damaged by Hurricane Harvey. Many of these homeowners will be individuals with limited resources to rebuild.
Space on this trip will be limited, and details are still coming together, but please take note of the following
information:
Dates: Saturday, June 9 through Saturday, June 16
The Cost: $500 per person. (This will include all travel, lodging, meals, and construction materials)
Sign-up: A $75 non-refundable deposit will be due at sign-up (Deposit cannot come from church fundraising)
The Work: While there will be a variety of tasks to accomplish on this trip, we can expect that there will be
some drywalling, sanding, painting, and clean up. Because we will be working on people’s homes, excellence
will be expected. Students can expect to work alongside our youth leaders and competent adults
knowledgeable in construction
Eligibility: This trip will be open to students who are going into 9th grade and above (and are regular attenders
of the youth ministry at GAC)
Information Meeting: We will be having an informational meeting after church on Sunday, January 14 after
which registration will be open. Registration will close on Sunday, February 11.
Please pray about being a part of this trip and stay tuned for details.

Praying is a practical and effective way
Alliance people can help fulfill the Great
Commission. Here are some of the latest
updates and requests from our International
Workers in the North Central Asia area.
North Central Asia Partnership
News & Prayer Requests
North Central Asia Workers are giving
thanks for the new team structure
(National Church Development Team) and
for the progress towards understanding
one another and what they are called by
God to do in this area. They have been
meeting with the new team developer to
work towards official Team Agreement
documents.
Pray for the National Church Development
Team and their children. They have faced
difficult situations in past weeks: health
issues, apartment issues, car issues, and
visa issues, to name a few of the
challenges. This takes a lot of energy and
time that they would rather be putting into
ministry and relationships. Pray that God
will use these situations as a testimony to
His Glory. Pray that they will not be
discouraged in the face of these struggles
that sometimes seem to come all at once.
Pray for the local government to become
more supportive of Christianity and
accommodating to churches.
UBean Coffeehouse Update: While they
have a contract with someone to import
coffee, it really isn’t ideal. They need to
import coffee themselves and are making
plans now to place a big order. Pray that if
this is God’s will, they can safely navigate
these waters and have some breathing
room for a couple of months.
Pray for CCAN (Cornerstone Church of all
Nations) to reach out to the many
unchurched and non-Christian expatriates
in the area. Pray that God will raise
people to be in charge of various ministry
needs.
Workers give thanks for the local church
and believers, and pray for their continued
maturity in the Lord, for their faith to be
strengthened, hearts to be encouraged,
and to stand strong in the face of
opposition.
UBean Coffeehouse:
Not only great coffee,
but also great events are
held there such as
painting and karaoke!
A detailed report of North Central Asia prayer requests is available
monthly on the wooden rack near the Welcome Center.
