“We Have Died With Christ”by Pastor Fee Soliven

Colossians 2:16-20Wednesday NightAugust 7, 2013

16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new

moon or sabbaths,

17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.

18 Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and

worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly

puffed up by his fleshly mind,

19 and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God.

20 Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as

though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations--

16 So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new

moon or sabbaths,

Leviticus 23:1-51 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2

"Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: 'The feasts of the LORD, which

you shall proclaim to be holy convocations, these are My feasts. 3'Six

days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, a holy

convocation. You shall do no work on it; it is the Sabbath of the LORD in all your

dwellings. 4'These are the feasts of the LORD, holy convocations which you shall proclaim

at their appointed times.

Romans 14:1-9   (New Living Translation)1 Accept other believers who are weak in faith, and don’t argue with them about what they think is right or wrong. 2 For

instance, one person believes it’s all right to eat anything. But another believer with

a sensitive conscience will eat only vegetables. 3 Those who feel free to eat anything must not look down on those

who don’t. And those who don’t eat certain foods must not condemn those who do, for God has accepted them.

4 Who are you to condemn someone else’s servants? They are responsible to the Lord, so let him judge whether they are right or wrong. And with the Lord’s help, they will do what is right and will

receive his approval. 5 In the same way,

some think one day is more holy than another day, while others think every day

is alike. You should each be fully convinced that whichever day you choose

is acceptable. 6 Those who worship the Lord on a special day do it to honor him.

Those who eat any kind of food do so to honor the Lord, since they give thanks to God before eating. And those who refuse to eat certain foods also want to please

the Lord and give thanks to God. 7 For we don’t live for ourselves or die for

ourselves. 8 If we live, it’s to honor the Lord. And if we die, it’s to honor the Lord. So whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9 Christ died and rose again for this very purpose—to be Lord both of the

living and of the dead.

17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.

Romans 8:1-12   (New Living Translation)1 Here is the main point: We have a High Priest who sat down in the place of honor beside the throne of the majestic God in

heaven. 2 There he ministers in the heavenly Tabernacle,* the true place of

worship that was built by the Lord and not by human hands. 3 And since every high

priest is required to offer gifts and sacrifices, our High Priest must make an offering, too. 4 If he were here on earth,

he would not even be a priest, since there

already are priests who offer the gifts required by the law. 5 They serve in a

system of worship that is only a copy, a shadow of the real one in heaven. For

when Moses was getting ready to build the Tabernacle, God gave him this

warning: “Be sure that you make everything according to the pattern I have shown you here on the mountain.” 6 But

now Jesus, our High Priest, has been given a ministry that is far superior to the old

priesthood, for he is the one who

mediates for us a far better covenant with God, based on better promises. 7 If the first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no need for a second covenant to replace it. 8 But when God

found fault with the people, he said: “The

day is coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and Judah. 9 This covenant will not

be like the one I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand and led them out of the land of Egypt.

They did not remain faithful to my covenant, so I turned my back on them,

says the Lord. 10 But this is the new covenant I will make with the people of

Israel on that day,* says the Lord: I will put my laws in their minds, and I will write

them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 11 And they

will not need to teach their neighbors, nor will they need to teach their relatives, saying, ‘You should know the Lord.’ For

everyone, from the least to the greatest,

will know me already. 12 And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never

again remember their sins.”

18 Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and

worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly

puffed up by his fleshly mind,

1 Corinthians 3:10-1510 According to the grace of God which

was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed

how he builds on it. 11 For no other

foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now

if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each one's work will become

clear; for the Day will declare it,

because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is. 14 If anyone's work which he has built on

it endures, he will receive a reward. 15 If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss;

but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.

Philippians 3:13-1613 Brethren, I do not count myself to have

apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind

and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the

goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God

will reveal even this to you.

16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.

19 and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God.

Ephesians 2:21-2221 in whom the whole building, being

joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are

being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

Ephesians 4:15-1615 but, speaking the truth in love, may

grow up in all things into Him who is the head--Christ-- 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the

effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body

for the edifying of itself in love.

20 Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as

though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations--

Romans 6:1-141 What shall we say then? Shall we

continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? 3 Or do you not

know that as many of us as were baptized

into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with

Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the

glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we

have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in

the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be

slaves of sin. 7 For he who has died has been freed from sin. 8 Now if we died

with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ,

having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over

Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He

lives, He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in

your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. 13 And do not present your

members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present

yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments

of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are

not under law but under grace.
