PCH: Our Mission

With the health field as its outlet for service, Pilipinos for Community Health (PCH) at UCLA has constantly advanced its efforts to educate

and provide health services to disadvantaged communities.

Through its three main components, PCH serves various groups at the university, local, and international levels in hopes of helping the

community make wise health decisions and providing members with valuable learning experiences.

Preventive Health● Increase awareness of major

health problems, such as high blood pressure and obesity, prevalent in Pilipino communities of the greater Los Angeles area

● Go to Seafood City in Carson or Panorama and offer free blood pressure screenings and body mass index measurements

● Provide trainings to take blood pressure every quarter

What we do:

-Visit seniors on a weekly basis to give them company

-Hold fun activities to do with the seniors to help stimulate cognitive

thinking (decorating events, painting, board games, etc.)

Why we do it:

-To make the seniors SMILE :D

-⅓ of elderly population die with some form of dementia

-Milder forms of dementia (but not always)

- Orientation NOT required

Westwood Manor:

-Intimate setting. Gain “Bedside Manner” Skills

-Residents range from mild to severe dementia

-MUST attend orientation

Medical Outreach

Mission: To help the impoverished communities in the Philippines who have little to no access to proper healthcare.What we do:

Organize a medical mission to the Philippines

Medical Outreach Banquet

Why is it important:

Raise awareness about the health care status of the Philippines.

Provide hands-on experience and different perspective in health care.

Learn more about the Filipino culture.
