‘Still Life Ingredients’, 1976

‘Sun lounge’ acrylic on canvas (to the right)

‘Wine Glasses’ Screenprint on paper 1969(above)

Julian Opi

Drawing from influences as diverse as billboard signs, classical portraiture and sculpture, to classical Japanese woodblock prints, Opie 'paints' using a variety of media and technologies which enable him to make three-dimensional explorations of his subjects.

‘Still Life with Bananas and Aubergines’ 2001

Andy Warhol first used the Iconic image of consumerism in 1960’s with his painting of a ‘Campbell's soup can’. The painting used bold techniques from commercial design and used a stencil to help him achieve bright, flat colours and clean lines. He continued to look at packaging and even made sculptures based on everyday items you would find in a supermarket.
