ReproductionReproduction Zebra mussel may produce between
30,000 and 1 million eggs per year.
FeedingFeedingThey are primarily algae feeders.
It is not recommended they be eaten by people
Life conditionsLife conditions The distribution of zebra mussels is thought
to be controlled mainly by temperature and calcium
They begin laying eggs when water temperatures rise to approximately 12 ºC
Calcium is required for mussels to develop their hard sell.
Adult zebra mussels can survive out of water, for up to two weeks.
