Day 1: Thursday 29th November, 2018

MELBOURNE TO WAGGA WAGGA

Today we depart on our tour to Young, New South Wales. After our morning pick up service we begin our day’s travel as we take the scenic route to Mansfield where we enjoy lunch. Driving through Swanpool to connect with the Hume Highway, we continue onto Wagga Wagga where we check into the luxury International Hotel, our base for the next four nights. After time to unpack and unwind, we enjoy our first dinner together.

OVERNIGHT: International Hotel, WAGGA WAGGA

Day 2: Friday 30th November, 2018

EXPLORING WAGGA AND THE AREA

This morning, we set out to discover Wagga Wagga. Located on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River, the town was named by the original

inhabitants, the Wiradjuri people and means crow. Repeating it means crows, hence a place of many crows. Our local guide will take us on a tour of this scenic township before morning tea at the Visitor Information Centre. We then head to Junee, a historic railway town that is situated within a rich agricultural

and pastoral district. It’s here we find the finest colonial mansion in the Riverina - Monte Cristo. The house has been faithfully restored and furnished in the High Victorian Period 1840-1900. The owners, who still live here, started collecting furniture and antiques 40 years ago, first from Adelaide and then from Europe. The house is recognised as the most haunted house in Australia with 10 resident ghosts! We enjoy lunch and a guided tour. Our next visit is to the Junee Liquorice & Chocolate Factory.

Here they manufacture organic liquorice, one of only three certified organic liquorice manufacturers in the world! Afterwards we take a drive past the splendid Railway Station which is a reminder of the important regional role that Junee played in the hey-day of the Steam Train Era before returning to Wagga Wagga.

OVERNIGHT: International Hotel, WAGGA WAGGA

Day 3 : Saturday 1st December, 2018

YOUNG CHERRY TIME

Today is all about “cherries” so after breakfast, we drive to Young - "the

Cherry Capital of Australia". Young is the largest cherry growing area in

the Southern Hemisphere with an

annual production in excess of 500,000

cases. Each year 76% of the total

Australian cherry crop is produced by

254 individual growers at Young. As well

as the large Australian market, fresh

cherries are exported to markets in Asia,

the Arab states, Europe and Britain. Young is celebrating the 69th

National Cherry Festival and will be at the height of the cherry picking

season. This iconic regional produce event showcases the humble

Cherry which has been part of the landscape around Young for over

150 years. On our arrival, we’ll enjoy a brief locally guided tour so we

can familiarise ourselves with today’s programme. Key events include

Cherry Pie eating contest,

Cherry Pip Spit, Cherry

Festival Street Parade,

Busking Competitions, Dog

Trials and Markets. We have

some free time to enjoy

some of these festivities

before heading to the Allambie Cherry and Plum Orchard. We enjoy

lunch - and here’s a hint…make sure you leave room for the cherry pie!

We have the opportunity to look through the packing shed as well as

picking our own cherries (paid for by the kilo at Market Rates - own

expense). Returning to town, we watch the street Parade before

heading back to Wagga Wagga for a slightly later dinner. What a great

day!!

OVERNIGHT: International Hotel, WAGGA WAGGA

Day 4: Sunday 2nd December, 2018

BOGGY CREEK

We have an early start this morning but it will be well worth the effort. After breakfast we travel via Rosewood to Boggy Creek Station. Mountains, legends & laughs - The Boggy Creek Show combines all the skill of horsemanship, mustering, whip cracking, working dogs and sheep tricks with humour, a naughty kelpie and a stubborn mule. There are not many truly traditional family farms left in the High Country. The Boggy Creek Show reflects

Australia's iconic farming values and practices, ones that people from all around Australia and the world recognise and identify with. The Boggy Creek Show is a 2-hour live show that ultilises farming techniques and knowledge learnt over three generations. The owner-operator, Tim

O'Brien, keeps his culture alive by showing people how generations of High Country cattlemen opened up and farmed the High Country. Preserving the bush knowledge that can only be described as "heritage" is one of the main aims of the Boggy Creek Show. Tim goes to great lengths to show visitors the ins and outs of mountain life: from how to "cooee", to boiling the billy for tea. Nothing is overlooked in bringing past and present farming activities alive. At the conclusion of the show, we make our way into Tumbarumba where we enjoy lunch at the Pioneer Women’s Cottage. The cottage includes an excellent collection of domestic artifacts, agricultural machinery and local crafts. After lunch we take in the sights of Tumbarumba, a delightful small country town which is largely

untouched by the modern world. We’ll see the Court House and Police Residence which were constructed in the 1880s. Their age is still evident in the VR (Victoria Regina) embossed into the cast iron lacework. Around the corner in Bridge Street is the current local Court House, a beautiful building

with large trees in the street outside. From here we travel via Batlow

and Adelong back to Wagga and the motel for dinner.

OVERNIGHT: International Hotel, WAGGA WAGGA

Day 5: Monday 3rd December, 2018

WAGGA TO HOME

We visit Wallundry Grove Olives this morning where we will meet the growers, walk through the trees, learn about the history of Wollundry Grove and the production process of producing award winning olive oil and olives, as well as sampling all of their products! Then it’s back on board to make the drive home, stopping at Wangaratta for our last lunch together. We arrive home late afternoon where as always, our chauffeurs will be waiting to take us safely home to our door.

We thank you for travelling with O’Shannessy’s Tours

and look forward to your patronage again in the future!
