TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

PRESSURIZED MEDICAL GAS & VACUUM PIPING

A. All pipe shall be Type "K", ASTM B819, hard drawn seamless copper medical gas tubing. Pipe

shall be identified by the manufacturer’s markings, “OXY,” “MED,” or “OXY/MED” and with

size designated reflecting nominal inside diameter.

B. Turns, offsets, and other changes in direction shall be made with brazed wrought copper

capillary fittings complying with ANSI B16.22, Wrought Copper and Copper Alloy Solder-Joint

Fittings; or brazed fittings complying with MSS SP-73, Brazed Joints for Wrought and Cast

Copper Alloy Solder Joint Pressure Fittings. Cast copper alloy fittings shall not be permitted.

C. Brazed joints shall be made using a brazing alloy that exhibits a melting temperature in

excess of 538°C (1000°F). Copper-to-copper joints shall be brazed using a copper–

phosphorus or copper–phosphorus–silver brazing filler metal (BCuP series) without flux. Flux

shall only be used when brazing dissimilar metals such as copper and bronze or brass, using

a silver (BAg series) brazing filler metal. Brazing alloy comply with ANSI/AWS A.5.8,

Specification for Brazing Filler Metal.

D. Threaded joints in medical gas distribution piping shall be limited to connections to

pressure/vacuum indicators, alarm devices, and source equipment. All threads shall be

tapered pipe threads complying with ANSI B1.20.1, Pipe Threads, General Purpose and be

made up with polytetrafluoroethylene (such as Teflon™) tape or other thread sealant

recommended for oxygen service, with the sealant applied to the male threads only. Where

threaded nipples are required these shall be I.P.S. brass.

E. The use of shape memory alloy couplings may be used when making connections to existing

piping sizes 2” and smaller. Memory-metal couplings shall have temperature and pressure

ratings joints not less than that of a brazed joint. Shape memory alloy couplings shall be

manufactured by TW Metals “CryoMed” or Aerofit “CryoFit”.

F. The use of brass axially swaged, elastic strain preload fittings may be used when making

connections to existing piping sizes 2” and smaller. Non-braze fittings shall provide metal to

metal seal having pressure and temperature ratings not less than that of a brazed joint and

when complete are permanent and nonseparable. Axially swaged fittings shall be cleaned

and sealed for oxygen service and manufactured by Lokring Technology LLC.

G. Straight-threaded connections, including unions, flared and compression-type connections,

including connections to station outlets and inlets, alarm devices, and other components

shall not be permitted

H. All pipe and fittings shall be supplied cleaned and sealed for oxygen service.

ZONE VALVE BOX ASSEMBLY

A. Valves shall be full port, double seal, ball-type with three piece bronze/brass body and a chrome

plated brass ball. Valves shall be designed for a maximum working pressure of 600 psig WOG or

vacuum service to 29" Hg. Valve body shall have reinforced PTFE ball seat and reinforced PTFE

stem seals, and stem shall be blowout proof. All valve materials shall be compatible with USP

oxygen, nitrous oxide, medical air, carbon dioxide, helium, nitrogen, argon and mixtures thereof.

B. A 1/4 turn of the handle shall be required to operate the valve from OPEN to CLOSED position.

C. The valve shall be securely attached to the box and provided with type K copper tube

extensions for making connection to system piping outside the box. All valves shall be

serviceable in the line, supplied clean and prepared for oxygen service. All valve assemblies have

a total of three 1/8" NPT ports with pipe plugs.

D. One port is used as a provision for connection of a gauge and shall be located on the terminal

outlet side of the valve to register pipeline pressure or vacuum. The second port is used as a

provision for a DISS connection of a gas sensor. The third port is used for purging during the

brazing process and is located upstream of the valve.

E. The zone valve and box assembly shall meet all requirements of NFPA 99, CAN/CSA Z7396.1-09

and AS2896-2011. The valves conform to MSS SP-110. Type K copper tube extensions conform

to ASTM B88, UNS No. C12200, and H58 temper. The gauges shall conform to ANSI B40.1.

ZONE BOX DESIGN

A. The zone valve box shall be constructed of 18-gauge steel with white epoxy finish. The 1/2”

through 2” valves require a rough wall opening of 13 5/8" wide x 4" deep. The 2-1/2” and 3”

valves require a rough wall opening of 15-7/8” wide x 10” high x 6-11/16” deep. For ease of

installation, two 18-gauge galvanized steel mounting brackets, adjustable from 3/8" thick to 1.5"

drywall, are provided.

B. The zone valve box assembly shall have a sliding, opaque door with pull ring and clear gauge

window. The door shall be capable of sliding to the right to facilitate installation requirements.

C. In an emergency, the door shall SNAP OUT by pulling the pull ring forward without exposing

sharp edges.

D. The zone valve box shall be provided with an advanced polymer (ABS) trim frame designed for

high impact resistance and capable of adjusting to variations in wall thickness up to 1" below

flush. The design allows for the configuration of up to 7 valves within the rough-in box assembly.

E. Gas flow should be from left to right. Nylon 6/6 Insulated grommets allow for ease of valve

replacement and reorientation within the rough-in box. The Zone Valve Box door is treated with

Biomaster (see table on pg.4 for details). The zone valve box assembly shall be supplied with

color-coded gas identification labels. The gas identification labels are also available online for

printing. The assembly door shall have a label that reads:

MEDICAL GAS SIGNALING & NOTIFICATION DEVICE

A. The medical gas notification alarms must provide master and area alarm signals as required by

the latest edition of NFPA 99. The alarm is ETL listed to UL 1069 and CSA C22.2 No.205 Signal

Equipment. All field wiring and signals are self-monitoring and on a closed circuit. Fault signals

activate on an open circuit.

10.2" Touch Screen LCD Display

A. Medical Gas Notification Master, Area, and Combination Alarms must have a 10.2” touch screen

LCD display.

B. The LCD touch screen display allows for all alarm programming and set up on site without the

use of tools.

C. A Green NORMAL condition on the home screen shows that there are no alarms active.

D. The home page includes a location/area served badge for the alarm panel, customizable with

the keyboard feature of the touch screen during the set up process.

E. LCD display contains an adjustable background with many color/brightness options.

F. LCD display backlight includes a "sleep mode" option via motion sensor to preserve screen life,

adjustable from 5 minutes to 60 minutes. By default, the alarm sleep mode option is not active

and the backlight remains on all of the time. If option is active and an alarm occurs during

"sleep mode", the backlight turns on and remains on during the alarm condition.

G. A full diagnostic self-test of the alarm tests the alarm signals (green and red), the LED indicators

on the front panel, the audible horn, and displays all of the alarm set points. Initiate test with

the touchscreen controls.

POWER

A. Input power to the alarm panel is 100 to 250 VAC 50/60 Hz, fused on the input side rated at

250mA, time-delayed.

B. The internal power supply converts the input voltage to low voltage 24 VDC.

C. All user accessible electronics and wiring utilize low voltage.

D. Plastic guard protects user from high voltage wiring.

AREA ALARM DIGITAL SENSOR

A. Gas specific digital gas sensor contains a transducer capable of providing factory calibrated

signals to the alarm panel.

B. Gas sensors may be located inside the alarm rough-in (local) or outside the alarm rough-in

(remote).

C. When installed remotely, sensors may be located up to 1524 m (5,000 feet) from the alarm

panel.

D. Pipeline connections are 3/8” nominal (1/2” OD) type K copper tube and include a DISS check

fitting.

E. Digital gas sensors include a “heartbeat” flashing green LED light to designate that sensor is

functioning correctly.

AREA ALARM PANEL CONFIGURATION

A. Area alarm panel monitors 1 to 8 digital gas sensor modules, installed locally or remotely.

B. Display screen continuously displays the monitored gas pressures or vacuum in the piping

system.

C. Customize gas badges on the display for gas types, color, and language. Type in areas served per

gas during set up process through the touchscreen interface.

D. Program the units of measure for each gas badge to read PSI, BAR, and kPa in increments of 1

PSI,.1 BAR, and to 10 kPa respectively.

E. Visual indicators for system pressure or vacuum are NORMAL (green) and individual indicators

(red) for alarm fault condition such as LOW or HIGH pressure.

F. Low and high alarm points are factory set per NFPA 99 standards, but remain field

programmable through touch screen interface.

G. The Area alarm panel contains a general fault relay for the entire panel or add an optional relay

board to provide the pressure fault status for each gas.

MASTER ALARM

A. Master alarm panel monitors up to 40 normally closed dry contact switch signals wired locally.

B. Status for each signal, shown on the touchscreen, is Green under normal conditions (closed) and

flashing Red under fault conditions (open).

C. During a fault condition, the visual green NORMAL display turns off, the location icon flashes

red, the active alarm icon flashes red, and the audible alarm sounds.

D. Optional relay boards provide up to 48 dry contacts normally closed relays for connection to a

building automation system. Relay ratings are 30 VAC/VDC 3A max.

E. Master alarms allow for optional relay outputs tied to single or multiple alarm conditions.

COMBINATION ALARM

A. Alarm panels monitor a combination of normally closed dry contact switch signals, digital gas

sensor modules, and 4-20mA transducers.

B. Alarm panel is capable of monitoring up to 30 normally closed dry contact switch signals wired

locally or up to 6 digital gas sensors.

4-20mA OPTION

A. Set up any 2 or 3 wire 4-20mA transducer with user-defined values.

B. Customize badges through the touchscreen interface to display the 4-20mA readings, including

color, identification, location, value settings, and alarm set points (high and low).

C. Each 4-20mA monitored condition shows a separate green display when NORMAL and a red

display when in ALARM.

BIOMASTER ADDICTIVE

A. Medical Gas Notification alarms must also include Biomaster, an additive proven to reduce

bacterial growth. Disclaimer: Use of this product does not protect user from disease-bearing and

food-borne pathogens.

CE MARKING

The standard range Series 9A Rigid and Retractable Pendants are ‘CE’ marked under the Medical

Devices Directive 93/42/ EEC with approval from notified body no. 0088 (Lloyd’s Register Quality
