Show how images are formed by diverging lenses

There are two main types of lenses:• convex lenses—these curve outwards

and are fatter in the middle• concave lenses—these curve inwards

(a little like a cave) and are thinner in the middle.

Convex lenses Concave Lenses

There are 2 basic types of lenses

A converging lens (Convex)takes light rays and bringthem to a point.

A diverging lens (concave) takes light rays and spreads them outward.

Concave lens is thinner in the center than at the edges.

Light is refracted away from the center of the lens.

The light rays will never meet on the other side of the lens.

Sample Example question

Convex lensesa. Diverge lightb. Converge lightc. Reflect lightd. Separate light into colors

Did you see how the images formed by lenses

Can you determine the focal point and the focal length.

Can you differentiate between the concave and convex lenses

Can you describe the properties of the images that are formed by lenses

Write what you understood in the class in your notebook.
