  • DR ERWIN GROENEVELDMBBS (Qld) FRANZCOFellowship trained Vitreous and Retina Surgeon with expertise in Age Related Macular Disease, Retinal vascular disease, Glaucoma and Cataract Surgery.

    Dr Erwin Groeneveld has served as a senior visiting consultant, advanced training supervisor and director of ophthalmology at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. His main interests are in the diagnosis and treatment of surgical and medical diseases of the retina and vitreous including age related macular degeneration, vision threatening diabetic retinopathy, complex retinal detachment, ocular trauma, epiretinal membrane, macular hole and the management of posterior segment complications of eye surgery.

    He has served as an officer in the Australian Army Reserve, as an AusAID surgeon in the Pacific and on the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologist’s State Executive as chairman, secretary, treasurer, and member of College Council and Qualification & Education committee. He has completed rotations as the Medical Director of the Rivercity Private Day Hospital, a Director of the Queensland Eye Hospital, a Director of the Queensland Eye Institute and as a Member of the Peninsula Private Hospital Medical Advisory Committee.

    His clinical experience as a Visiting Medical Officer extended to the Mater Mother’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit where he visited for many years to detect retinopathy of prematurity in extremely low birth weight infants.

    DR FIONA CHANMBBS Hons1 FRANZCOGeneral Ophthalmologist with a special interest in Cataract surgery

    Dr Fiona Chan graduated from The University of Queensland in 1997 with first class Honours and commenced her residency training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane. She commenced Ophthalmology training as a registrar in 2003 in Queensland and was appointed to the role of Senior Registrar in 2007 in her final year of training.

    Dr Chan has been a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Brisbane Eye Clinic since late 2008, which is located in the Brisbane CBD and Aspley. She practices General Adult Ophthalmology and focuses her practice on the management of Cataract cases.

    Her surgeries are performed at the RiverCity Private Hospital, Auchenflower.

    Dr Chan is a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. She is involved in regular training of GP registrars with ophthalmology workshops for the Metro North Sunshine Coast Division of General Practice Training Queensland and provides lectures to local optometrists and General Practitioners.

    Vitreoretinal surgeon with expertise in retinal detachment, macular degeneration, macular surgery, diabetic eye disease and retinal laser.

    After graduating with honours from Sydney University, Dr Ambler was awarded the Cedric Cohen Medal for Excellence at the Part 1 Examination of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. He completed his training at the Sydney Eye Hospital in 1986.

    Following post-specialist training in vitreoretinal disease at the Lions Eye Institute in Perth, he undertook two further years of dedicated vitreoretinal sub-speciality training at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio USA. Dr Ambler has published papers on various aspects of retinal disease, especially retinal detachment and has served as senior lecturer in ophthalmology at the University of Queensland. He has been in private practice in Queensland for 27 years.

    Dr Ambler is a designated aviation ophthalmologist (DAME) for the Civil Aviation Safety Authority. He operates at the Queensland Eye Hospital and Kawana Private Hospital.

    DR WENG NG

    Cataract & Glaucoma Surgeon, Comprehensive OpthalmologistDr Weng Ng is an eye surgeon with a subspecialty interest in Cataract surgery and Glaucoma surgery. He also has skills and experience in managing Medical Retina conditions.

    Dr Weng graduated from The University of Melbourne with an Honours degree in 1999. He was the recipient for RANZCO Undergraduate Ophthalmology Prize for Victoria, Keith Levi Memorial Scholarship for Medicine and RD Wright Prize for Physiology. He completed a Master in Public Health at James Cook University before starting his RANZCO Registrar training at Sydney Eye Hospital and Prince of Wales Hospital. That was followed by a Glaucoma and Anterior Segment Fellowship in Perth where he performed complex Cataract surgery, Glaucoma surgery and Anterior Segment surgery. He published multiple articles in international journals during and after his training.

    Following the conclusion of his Fellowship, Weng returned to Melbourne and became a Consultant at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, The Alfred Hospital and he has also established a busy private practice. He was actively involved in the teaching of trainee ophthalmologists and optometrists, including presentations at the Australian College of Optometrists.

    Affectionately known as ‘Dr Weng’ among his patients,he employs personally tailored treatment plans for each patient. He has extensive experience in Cataract Surgery, including implantation of Presbyopic Correcting and Toric IOL’s in suitable patients. He also utilises MIGS implants, including XEN and i-Stents for his Glaucoma patients who need Cataract surgery concurrently or as a standalone procedure. Weng also practices Adult Comprehensive Ophthalmology including intravitreal injections for AMD, retinal vein occlusion and diabetic maculopathy. He is a Designated Aviation Ophthalmologist for CASA.

    Weng is fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese.

    To access Medicare and Health Fund rebates, all emergency eye care patients require a current referral from an Optometrist, Ophthalmologist or Hospital Emergency Department.
