A NOTE FROM PASTOR RYAN

Dear Friends,

It is great to see so many faces in worship these days! That means we are not "giving up meeting together as some are in the habit of doing," but we are "encouraging one another toward love and good deeds" (Hebrews 10:24-25). And we have great staff and volunteers inspiring "good deeds" every week through

Discipleship: Jeanne Dahler is directing FLM toward a more engaging format for the whole family. We have a

growing rotation of volunteers and teachers and many of you are taking advantage of the growing selection of LIFE

classes. I am especially proud that our deacons are teaching God's Word - Brett (FPU), Roger D (Starting Point) Aaron (last semester's Bible in 90 Days)...Roger B (Friendship Class) set the bar pretty high! J Reach IN to Grow through God's Word with others!

Worship: Jim Arndt is our new Worship Teams Coordinator. Jim's responsibilities include meeting with the wor-

ship teams, coordinating resources, and helping worship leaders prepare for worship. Also, a big thanks to our website

designer, Kelsey Goldsmith put the sermons online on our website at www.fbcnokomis.com/sermons. If for some rea- son the sermon does not play directly from the website you can copy and paste the URL into your Internet browser.

Our present sermon series, Good Grief coincides with Lent and SHARE Groups to inspire us to survive death. Survive the death of loved ones with the life giver, Jesus, while also learning how to "carry one another's burdens" (Galatians 6:2).

In April we will discuss The "F" Word." When Josiah was 4 he asked, "What's the F word?" Tara frantically replied, "Who told you about the F word?!" Josiah: "The teacher said we're not supposed to say it. [Pause] but how do I know which F word is bad to say? Lots of words start with F - Friends! Fish! Fries!" Before we could stop him Rebekah chimed in, "and Cheese!" Well, I have tried to help Tara teach our kids to schpe!land we have also tried to teach our kids about the most important F Word in the English language: Forgiveness.

The month of May concludes the spring with Mother's Day, Graduations, and Pentecost. The Holy Spirit is the healer of

our grief and the author of our forgiveness.

Let us attend and encourage one another together with the power of the Holy Spirit.

Family Life Ministries

Woot! Woot! FLM is on FIRE!!!!!!!!!!! Snow, snow, snow, and more snow still hasn't stopped us from our Wednesday night FLM classes. Well, I think we DID have to cancel one but it's OKAY. Wednesday night classes are Awesome and Alive with many people attending. If you aren't coming, YOU'RE MISSING OUT, TRUST ME!! - Jeanne Dahler

Classes offered through FLM..

REAL KIDS/CHAOS JR starts at 6:30PM with flashing lights and kids dancing in our fellowship hall to children's worship music provided by our excellent worship team. Pastor Ryan and Kenzie Howell sing and act out the motions for the children to follow while Jim Arndt and John Koontz play the guitar and drums. They play with so much ENTHUSIASM! At 7:00 REAL KIDS breaks out into 2 classes for a lesson and activity while CHAOS JR works on their own Bible lesson interactively. All children are dismissed at 8:00 to the fellowship hall for their parents to receive them and head home. CHAOS Jr. is going to Skyzone trampoline park in St. Louis March 15th. That right there sounds like it will be the "HIGH" light of their day.

CHAOS (Sunday evenings): High School Students CHAOS meets every Sunday evening, 6:30-8pm. Will Shalter leads our teens through interactive games and teaching God's Word as it relates to being a young person. On March 29, CHAOS will be traveling to Peoria to worship with other teens around the area during the WINTER JAM concert that features well-known Christian artists such as Skillet, Jeremy Camp, Francesca Battistelli, and many more.

LIFE Groups: Adult Small Groups LIFE Groups are chipping the ice away! Third quarter highlights include Kristy Sanders' Faithweavers class.

Kristy is an exceptional teacher and fantastic mentor and she still has room for more adults in her class for the 4th quarter (hint, hint)! Brett Goldsmith is teaching Financial Peace University with 13 adults. I think we have something here, because his class NEVER misses. Will Shalter taught Bible Basics to help people under- stand the chronology and signature themes of the bible. Will is an intelligent and thought provoking teacher for this phenomenal class. And finally, Roger DeWerff, who is as passionate as anyone about their faith, taught Starting Point to help people understand the foundations of our faith. What a wonderful disciple of Christ you are, Roger.

"Family Life Ministries at First Baptist Church is such a wonderful program. We truly enjoy the opportunity to join in fellowship and worship with the different couples in the classes. FLM has also made it possible for our

daughter to engage in what she loves to do, praise and worship our Lord through music. Kenzie is on the FLM Worship Team. We look forward to class each Wednesday night. The classes have blessed us individ-

ually, as a couple, and as a family." - Jeff & Tammara Howell

FLM Nursery (Wednesday Nights): 6 mo. to 4-years-old Not sure you can come because you have little one at home? No worries. We offer nursery for volunteers and adult participants. The caring and passionate Stacy Carver is our nursery guide. I've watched her,

I've worked with her, and she is wonderful with the children!

Sunday Mornings: FLOC and Nursery

FLOC (Children's Church): K-5th grade FLOC meets Sunday mornings during worship. Children are dismissed after the Gathering Music around 10:15am. Pastor Ryan dismisses the eager children to a volunteer teacher who provides a lesson in the edu- cation building. Approximately 20 children are attending every week. Woot Woot!! If interested in teaching a class, please contact Kim Goldsmith (our very special FLOC coordinator). But wait..I have one more thing to tell you... FLOC is creating a "secret" for Palm Sunday so...make sure your CHILD COMES TO FLOC ON MARCH 22 TO WORK ON THE PROJECT. Love seeing bright and shiny faces on Sunday mornings at church. Makes me so happy.

Sunday Morning NURSERY-- 6 months old to 4 years Kris Gibbs is are outstanding nursery worker. She comes every Sunday and loves on those kids as if they were her very own. Can't get much better than that. She's dedicated and loyal. Kris always has a helper in with her on Sunday mornings, too. There's a schedule on the wall outside the nursery door. If you are inter- ested in working with Kris, please contact ME.

"It is such a pleasure to work in the nursery on Sundays. It puts a smile on my face to watch the children grow and develop into individuals with the love and support of family and church. I have always wanted to work with children and my job in the nursery allows me to fulfill that dream." - Kristina Gibbs

We're growingNorth! Page 7

An overwhelming majority affirmed God's direction to purchase the house at 208 E. Union (behind the annex and adjacent to the fellowship hall). We are considering a few possibilities to pay off the mort- gage. Like the annex we can rent the house. Or, we could use it for a service to the community such as an affordable, faith-based daycare to assist young, growing families in the community.

Details about the house: The house has 1,256 square feet, central heat and air, a newer roof (2011), new- er (tankless) water heater (2007), 1.75 bathrooms, 2 bedrooms, a full basement, attached two-car garage, concrete patio, open porch, and a fenced in yard.

Share the investment and vision for our future. Donate toward the down payment through April 15 by designating "Capital Funds" on your check/envelope. The larger the down-payment the smaller the mort- gage. Every dollar counts!

Some ideas for you to help:

1. Raise/donate $500 as a family or study group by April 15. Twenty families or groups who raise $500 each would raise $10,000!

2. Tithe. "Test [God] in this and see [Him] throw open the floodgates of Heaven with bless- ings" (Malachi 3:10). Faithful tithers empower the church to grow and serve without pleas for special donations.

3. Grow in your faith! Pray a simple prayer, "Lord, what use do you have for this property? How will you use us to use this space to reach people for your Glory?" When a church buys property it means the church is growing and taking a leap of faith. We will grow in the journey together as God answers our prayer.
