(00:33:00) Upon watching this video for the first time, the viewer may believe that this film is about two neighbors who are struggling to define territorial lines with their homes after the growth of a flower. In my still image you will see two men who seem very similar, but with slight differences. For example, the houses have the same structure, but are facing different directions or the newspapers; one says, “Peace is certain if no war,” while the other says “War certain if no peace.” I believe that the director did all of these on purpose. Norman McLaren wanted to make an anti-war film. He got this idea after he took a trip to China with UNESCO. During this time the Korean War was taking place. This was a war between North Korea and South Korea. North Korea was supported by China and Russia, while South Korea as supported by the United States. The war started when North Korea invaded South Korea following a series of clashes along the border of the two countries. Very similar to the two men fighting over the flower that grow between the border of the two houses. Word count: 196
